I have been an army wife for 9 years now, during which time we have lived in 6 quarters across 3 countries. I enjoy going to live in new places (which is fortunate) and my favourite part of moving is making the new house my own.
Interests: Sewing and crochet. I love making granny stripe blankets as I find the repetition extremely soothing (indeed I tend to take a blanket to crochet in the car as otherwise I'm the worst backseat driver ever!) I enjoy the design side of crafting the most but I usually have so many ideas buzzing round in my head that I tend to have several large projects on the go at the same time, my sewing area is very cluttered. I also enjoy reading, lighthearted films and chocolate.

I don't know about anyone else, but miserable is definitely the best way to describe the weather here today. Yucky, is also a good adjective. It's dark and rainy, and just horrid, and we considered taking the little people for a walk in the woods but we simply couldn't work... Continue reading

Back in early December we had the ancient boiler removed and a new combination boiler fitted. The nicest consequence of this was that instead of showering under a trickle of tepid water we now get blasted against the far wall, and the water is lovely and warm. In addition to... Continue reading

It has taken me a long time to post. This has been for two reasons, firstly Christmas was insane. I made presents for everyone, and it was just mental, I was mental (for having the idea in the first place). Yep, I forgot to take any photos at all, and... Continue reading

It's been quite a hectic few weeks here, most of last weekend was spent having a new boiler installed, which is quite exciting as it means we can now have a decent shower. It has however left us with a not inconsiderable amount of decorating to do: Most excitingly we... Continue reading

According to my notebook on Ravelry, I started this blanket on the 26th of September, this is quite a long time for me to make a blanket (I can usually get one done in about 3 weeks - I put this down to being single-minded to the point of obsession... Continue reading

Good morning. I haven't managed to achieve very much over the last couple of weeks, but today I'm finding pleasure in the little things in life: It's a glorious sunny day here today with the sun streaming through the lounge curtains, (Yes the silly whippet is something of a sun-worshiper...)... Good morning. It's a lovely sunny day here, which makes a welcome change after days of rain. I've had quite a busy week, with the worsening weather I've spent quite a bit of time this week filling in the air-bricks round the house. I've also spent almost every evening curled... Continue reading

Good morning, I hope you're having a lovely weekend. Flashman didn't make it home for the weekend until after midnight last night / this morning, so I'm feeling a little on the groggy side. On the other hand the kids are in happy happy moods because Daddy is home, and... Continue reading

Sometimes I find posting quite difficult; there is so much I want to say, but somehow my brain seems to have temporarily disengaged itself, and after staring at a blank page for an hour or so I end up back on pinterest...! Over the last 2 years (last Tuesday) I... Continue reading

This is the second incarnation of this post, as earlier today I had just finished spell-checking my post when we had a power-cut and I lost everything. The cause of this power cut was quickly narrowed down to the cupboard at the bottom of the stairs where Little Man was... Continue reading

Wow. So I'm not really sure where to begin. I've had a 2 month 'rest' from blogging, partly because I was incredibly busy packing the house up (which normally we leave to the movers - but since we had to pay for this move ourselves we saved some cash by... Continue reading

We've been having some lovely weather here in the South of England, and I've been working on a little outdoor project. As you may know we live on camp (or 'behind the wire' as we call it), and consequently Little Miss' Nursery School is within sight of our house (just... Continue reading

We're still waiting to confirm our move (I will tell you all about this as soon as it is finalised - I don't want to jinx it!!) In the meantime I don't want to do any big projects, partly because they might not have a home in the new house,... Continue reading

I've been feeling quite creative over the last few days, although I'm still not as intensely focused as usual. Part of me thinks this is actually a good thing as I can be utterly obsessive over certain projects to the exclusion of all else, and this lack of focus is... Continue reading

Things are very unsettled here in our quarter at the moment, and it's making me a tad uneasy. We don't know if we will have moved again by the summer, or after the summer, or at Christmastime or even (which is a disturbing and real possibility) have moved twice by... Continue reading

I feel as though I need some sort of music for this, maybe some trumpets, or a small orchestra... I think I started this one back in September, which is a really long time for me - I like to get my projects finished quickly so I can start the... Continue reading

I'm so glad I pulled the Linked Patchwork Granny Stripe Blanket out of hibernation. Not only have I loved working on it, but it has absolutely flown along. At the beginning of the week I had this: (This is actually the back!) And now I'm halfway through working the edging... Continue reading

First of all a huge Happy Easter to everyone. I like Easter, it's a nice relaxed sort of holiday without the gift buying and stress of Christmas. No big meals, no last minute panic-buying, and no real decorating. In fact this year, I have added just one Easter decoration to... Continue reading

Somehow this week, progress has been so slow I feel like I'm almost going backwards. In fact I am about to perform some sort of reverse manoeuvre here: the granny circle rug has been slowly eroding what is left of my sanity, and it's about to get ripped back out... Continue reading

I've had an absolutely exhausting week here. In fact I've been so tired I haven't even picked up a crochet hook! The reason for this tiredness has been a visit from my Mum and Dad. Flashman is still away - although I'm not too bothered by this as he is... Continue reading

I seem to have put in a great deal of work this week simply keeping the house reasonably tidy and habitable... I have managed to find some time for crafting though - so it's not all bad! I am halfway through the second piece of the Pineapple Poncho. I've not... Continue reading

It's very grey and dreary here today, and consequently we're having a pajama-day. Little Man is coasting round the furniture chewing on anything that stands still for more than 3 seconds, Little Miss is subjecting us to her favourite Peppa Pig DVD, Flashman is trying to read the newspaper and... It's half-term here and although Little Miss only goes to Nursery 3 mornings a week, the prospect of a whole week cooped up at home was a little alarming; consequently we've been very busy visiting garden centres, soft-play, and going for little walks. I've had a small Holiday myself, 48... Continue reading

It's been a very tiring week here in our quarter, Little Man's sleep patterns are atrocious and usually involve waking up for a late supper somewhere between 10 and 11 pm and then staying awake for another 2 hours just in case he misses anything... I've been quite happy to... Continue reading

After being forced to wait for a yarn delivery until the middle of this week, and Flashman being away for a few days, progress has been slower than usual. The man-ghan has been causing me problems, I am using a varigated yarn for the bulk of the work and it... Continue reading
