Today I drove around The Blocks in Pueblo. One of my favorite neighborhoods because of the windy narrow streets, houses placed close together and to the street and all decorated with front porches and many with a view of the Arkansas River and downtown Pueblo. I saw this old ice... Continue reading

And are just as pesky. LED signs are used to digitally post information, usually rotating, for businesses and community entities. While these signs may be a great way to market to the masses, they do pose a hazard to the community. The first hazard is that they distract motorists attention... Continue reading

esterday, we traveled to Boulder and saw these roundabouts on many streets in older neighborhoods. This roundabout design could be implemented in Pueblo on streets like Goodnight/Cleveland, Orman, Colorado and Broadway. Continue reading

Today we went to a park in Bessemer, right across the street from the elementary school, and I couldn't help but think this spot would be perfect for a community garden. Part of the park is used for a playground, but there is plenty of space for a community garden... Continue reading

Tonight was one of those nice fresh summer evenings and we wandered on over to the Nature Center. A folk artist played music written about Colorado and Colorado towns and live'n and the kids played on the banks of the river. A wedding reception was going on under the canopy... Continue reading

Community members and leaders from Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Denver, and Fowler met and discussed they type of built environment they would like to see in their community. People were asked what would be at... Continue reading

The other day while taking a break on our errand run, my children and I snacked outside of Saint Mary Corwin Hospital. We sat down in this grassy knoll. My 3 little ones opted for the shaded steps in front of the Foundation's office. I had hoped to sit on... Continue reading

The Blocks area was originally known as Corona Park. William J. Palmer went to Mexico, came back to Pueblo and built lovely windy streets, probably like ones he saw in his travels and named the area Corona Park. Corona, meaning crown, because the area stood high above downtown Pueblo. Below... Continue reading

I love these little pathways and flower bed borders that make walking and enjoying the flowers so easy and accessible for my children (and others!) I could imagine benches on the right side of this pathway to allow more people to sit and look at the flowers. The flower beds... Continue reading

While I wouldn't mind traveling to Lisbon to see this cool buidling, color popping urban street art is right here in Pueblo on Northern Avenue. Continue reading

Just up HW 50 from Pueblo, a short hour and a half drive through the canon, sits Salida. Salida has to be one of my favorite Colorado mountain towns because the heart of the historic district is so walkable- the school, grocery store, churches, post office, stores, restaurants, homes, movie... Walking with Luca to a neighborhood coffee shop, Raven's Nest Coffee, we walked past this wonderful little duplex porch. I love the old worn red cement, the trellis of morning glory, small pathway the leads to the backyard and metal screen doors. Such a sweet stoup. Continue reading

Downtown Pueblo is a great place to walk, however, some areas still need improvement. Here's a group of pedestrians taking a stroll to The Riverwalk. Unfortunately, this large asphalt parking lot, lack of trees, landscaping and benches, plus the big red truck parked almost on top of the sidewalk make... Continue reading

I heard about this new house in University Hills/Walking Stick neighborhood that neighbors were complaining about the landscaping/garden in the front yard. Intrigued, I thought I'd go check it out. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to find it, but as I drove up the hill and saw this... Continue reading

This morning, I packed the kids in the trailer and we biked over to the 4th Street Bridge. Sophie and Luca loved spotting fishes swimming in the Arkansas and watching the trains moving underneath. Walkers down below. The walk over the bridge felt very safe and the metal rail is... Continue reading

These kiddos were creative and invented a game! So happy to see them outside, being active, rather than inside watching TV. This parking lot goes largely unused 80% of the time. It would be great to dig up the asphalt and return this area to a more natural state. Continue reading

(Commentary: This house is in Bessemer. Another one of my favorite neighborhoods in Pueblo. I like how this house sits on the street and the sidewalk that goes in front of it. However, the asphalt, location of the trailer, trash can, impact the walkability of this part of the block.) Continue reading

It seems like I have been driving this stretch of street daily since we moved to Pueblo 4 1/2 years ago, lived in South Pointe and my husband worked at Saint Mary Corwin Hospital. Today, after 4 1/2 years, I saw my first sighting of a bicyclist, a woman, and... Continue reading
