What If She Was Your Boss?
skip about 25-30 sec of the beginning of the video The Movie Horrible Bosses is easily one of the best comedies of the year. The premise includes 3 middle-aged men working for bosses that they absolutely detest. One of the guys in particular, Dale (Charlie Day) works at a dental office with a hot,sex crazed boss(Jennifer Aniston). She tries to seduce him daily; knowing full well that he has a wife. But that's the fun in it all. The film introduces the seductress social construct; the movie displays how women have the ability to use their attractiveness to bring men... Continue reading

Women and Weightloss
The two W's women and weight are always a touchy subject. When I recently viewed the Article,What Happens After You Lose Weight on the fbomb.org page, I was interested with the comments the author made about her peers not acknowledging her presence and ignoring her physical unattractiveness until she lost 15 pounds over the summer. Society is truly fixated on social image and its displayed when her classmates constantly asked, “what did she do to lose weight?” Truthfully, she killed herself exercising almost everyday and she was very conscientious about what she ate during the summer. But she did not... Continue reading

Which Do You Prefer?
If you’re not that creative and you go to see movies that are based on books, for solely the purpose of amusement you would have no care in the matter of books versus movies. But if you are an individual in which whom loves literature and has a certain affinity for all the "little details" a book brings, you would be quite upset when the movie fails to bring some of the events to life on the big screen. Yes, films are a visual masterpiece and they should be recognized in their attempts to personify a book but ultimately they... Continue reading

OH HO HO Its Funny Because Its Sarcasm!!
Family Guy usually shows a Latino worker who recognizes sarcasm and over exploits the speaker’s use of it. In this clip of the show, dramatic irony is used to show a situation, which a person describes how “good”; his day is going by covering it up verbally by saying how it rained. Interestingly, the show also captures verbal irony as well as the situational to describe how an event can be interpreted by a person who says the sarcastic comment, the one who recognizes it and the one who needs to explain it to the person who doesn’t recognizes the... Wait, I Thought Lenny Kravitz Was Black
Everyday we either check boxes in which we categorize our self’s to what race we belong or where we live. Does it really matter? It seems that identity no longer weighs into how we view ourselves. We either get stereotyped or discriminated against based on what color we are or where we come from. Culture, Religion, Technology, Gender and Class are categories into which we put ourselves and others into daily. These criterion are synthetic ideas that we come up with to create identity. I think by removing these titles that we link to our persona we can establish a... Continue reading

Sin And Punishment vs. Order And Freedom
The theme of sin and punishment is a constant recurrence in which an individual commits an atrocity and it causes an unstable balance in the community. Committing a sin would shift the power of the community to the authorities, causing the specific individuals in power to create the destiny of the sinner by following a specific code of conduct. I thought that this theme shows parallel to Hester's community and the society we live in today. When she sinned it gave the individuals in power to create her punishment. It enabled the officials in power to recreate her future in... Continue reading

What Does The Color Red Mean Anyway?
In the Scarlet Letter, there are several motifs that symbolizes light and darkness. As an author Nathaniel Hawthorne uses imagery and detail to create settings, in which images appear to represent a specific theme. The color red is introduced first, at the beginning of the novel. The rosebush and the letter "A" are the first two items that have a meaning and they happen to share the same color, red. What does the color red symbolize anyway? While the rosebush stands for innocence, purity and prosperity; the letter "A" is a negative patent that embodies hate, lust, shame and sin.... Continue reading

The rap superstar Lil' Wayne put out a 30 minute long PSA a couple days ago ,addressing the death of Steve Jobs reminiscing on how he should be remembered and how Wayne himself, would like to be remembered if he, a global icon like Steve Jobs were to die at a young age. He also outed the media because of their portrayal on his effect on kids being negatively influenced because of his actions. We all know Wayne as a pop culture icon. Who are we as Americans?
In the GOP debate, the centralized topics that were supposed to be heavily debated were quickly put on hold by the accusations of flip-flopping and character credibility. Nowadays, it seems that political rhetoric is all a presidential debate is. Politics is supposed to be the lesser of two evils; you vote for the male or female that best represents your ideas of what America needs or how America needs to change. No one is perfect and all the plans, budget cuts, etc. that are all promised don't always come to fruition. Unfortunatley, when these elected officials get into office, things go completely astray,... So Far Gone
The Canadian born actor and rapper Drake was a regular on the television show, Degrassi. He has crossed over from TV to a completely different genre (rap) and the world is better for his crossover. Drake comes from a predominately white family and has quickly become one of the most popular artists in the world. In American society to rap and be coined as, "good" an artist needs to talk about his sex life, his money, women and drugs. As a male rap artist, Drake has resisted the typical American ideology of the genre and revolutionized the way rap was viewed... Continue reading

Live blogging for Obama's speech
Early in his speech, Obama addressed the working class Americans and their struggle to find jobs that would help family's stay afloat. He reverted to his audience (working class) stating that, " These men and women grew up with faith in an America where hard work and responsibility paid off. They believed in a country where everyone gets a fair shake and does their fair share". He did well trying to persuade that the working class Americans needed more jobs and unemployed Americans needed money in their pockets. This new American Jobs Act may be effective....
