Happy Birthday, Mom
My mother is 89 years old today :-) I will be taking this "cookie forest" to her this morning ~ molasses cookies :-) Have a wonderful Tuesday. ~K
dandelions and fireflies :-)
A Little Lensbaby Fun
I am trying the new aperture disks that fit with the lensbaby lenses. This one is a sunburst disk: Pretty cool, huh? I kinda like what it does with the bokeh background. I think I will play around some more and see how the other shapes look. I do hope you are heading into a wonderful ...
I am looking forward to making a mess tomorrow too! I have to fit in a dentist and hair appointment, but I won't let that stop me!
I Need To Make a Mess!
I had the real need for a "messy" day today ~ but it turned out to be all digital. . . Even making a "digital mess" was good for me. . . Happy Weekend ~K
Oooh...Experimental Tuesday. Will this be a new series? I think this really has potential - love the playful, painted look.
A Lemon
Personal challenge ~ take a photo that is a lemon and try to make something wonderful with it ~ my attempt ~ it may not be wonderful but I am learning a lot about light layers of paint. The photo is of a leather chair tucked into a corner of the shed at the Inn at Park Winters ~ a lovely ches...
You did such a great job with all of these skies, Karen - it is hard to choose a favorite. These are a wonderful exploration of the quality of the light as much as they are about your walk through the city.
A Quick Little Tour
Images from our trip to Italy ~ these are from Florence. We began one evening at dusk at the Piazza Michelangelo above the city, walking and shooting as it got darker. We walked into the night ending up at the area around The Duomo, the large dome on the right in this first image. Walking d...
What an absolutely perfect quote for this image.
She Turned ~
"She turned to the sunlight and shook her yellow head an whispered to her neighbor: 'Winter is dead'." ~ A. A. Milne ~ When We Were Very Young ~K
Yikes, I never imagined you had to drill all those tiny holes too. The things we do for our art!
Project 45
Do you ever have a crazy idea that sticks in your mind until you see it through? I have these ideas all the time. This one has been on the back burner in my brain for a long time and it finally worked its way out this past weekend. The records have tiny holes drilled, threads tied, and then s...
That old truck is sure looking fine. It absolutely glows after all your careful polishing.
Mud on the Tires
A few weeks ago I had a delightful day with my friend Shirina. We went to the Apple Hill area to see the orchards and stumbled upon this lovely rusty, crusty vintage flatbed truck. It was sitting outside the Boeger Winery ~ how could we resist? Of course, I couldn't leave it looking so sad sitti...
I really like how you have "aged" this photo. I seems so much more right with the texture added.
The Famous Ponte di Rialto Bridge
The famous Ponte di Rialto Bridge in Venice, via water taxi ride. We took several shots at night from on top the bridge, but this one was from the water taxi. Still many images to process and sort. I give you the after and the before image. As you can see, it was a beautiful day ~ muc...
Sounds like Galveston is going to be getting a great new teacher :-)
Spring is Here ~
Spring is here in all it's glory. Flowers are poking up and spreading out, but so are the weeds. These calendula/pot marigolds come up every year, sometimes in unexpected places. But their warm colors are most welcome. The same for the camomile, it self sows readily. I'm quite fond of pu...
I love looking at the details - every time I look I see something new. Like a treasure hunt.
Pure Fantasy
Welcome to my imaginary place ~ although I'm not sure if it is a hotel, an island, or a treehouse. All buildings were disassebled and reassembled from photographs taken in Italy, so perhaps it is an Italian Imaginary Place. Layer after layer, handpainted background, painted trees and shrubs,...
Great job on this, Karen! Lovely simplicity. I am imagining that is a fringed silk scarf she is hanging on her line, even though it probably isn't. A girl can dream...
Wash Day
Wash day, which I suppose was everyday since I saw and loved all the laundry hanging from windows throughout the towns we traveled. Of all the laundry lines I photographed I finally got one with someone actually pegging the laundry. And the original: The little town of Riomaggiore. Still...

Such a beautiful transformation, Karen! So glad you are finding time to paint :-)
In the Marina ~
~ the boats wait patiently. I think they were as colorful as the hillside homes in Riomagiore. Paintwork, textured, a little Art History Brushwork for touch up. Again, I offer you the finished image along with the original photo. I have the idea of a final image in my mind, but am still unabl...
OK, this makes me want to paint my house. Or maybe move to Italy :-)
The Colors I Fell In Love With
Everywhere I looked I saw beautiful saturated colors ~ I loved it all! Comparison images. Vernazza, Liguria, Italy. Corel Paint work and texture work. More later. . . ~K

Hmmm. I keep looking at PL, but have not taken the leap. I love the idea of all the tiny pockets, but I'm not sure that I prefer it to my journal. I will enjoy watching you create your pages over the next few weeks.
A Short Exploration into Project Life: My Set Up
I am still figuring things out as I go - and it is only day 5... but I thought I would show you how I have things set up to make my Project Life Exploration a little easier to handle day to day. The above photo shows my work desk - where I do all my designing and what not. Next to my computer,...
I don't how you were able to sleep at all!!!
Ponte di Rialto
Classic, iconic shot of Venice ~ from the Rialto Bridge that spans the Grand Canal. This was the first night in Venice ~ I was suffering from lack of sleep and could hardly function, much less navigate my camera settings and open the tripod! There was a wonderful restaurant on the right that...
So nice for someone to park that bike right in that spot for you. The bike rider must be an artist at heart :-) So nice to see you painting again, Karen!
Walking in Pisa
Down a little side street, in an alley, leaning against the wall. . . Painted digitally in Corel as well as painted textures from the paper library into different portions of the image. You can click on the image to view it a bit larger if you have time. Of course we saw the famous leaning ...
How could you ever bear to close your eyes in this place??? So much to see!
Venezia
Late night walking in Venice ~ A small canal that branches off of the Grand Canal in Venice. A few gondolas are parked for the night under the small bridge. The city is beyond beautiful and holds a bit of mystery as footsteps echo on the ancient stones. This trip was amazing ~ we toured with...
I know you were so worried about the rain. It is so nice you used it to best advantage here. Looking forward to lots more...
I'm Home
Twenty Six hours in travel time, but every minute was worth it! From Sacramento to Denver to Frankfurt to Venice, on to Florence, on to the Cinque Terre Coast with a short stop in Pisa. Hoping water taxis, buses, and trains as if we knew what we were doing! It has rained that morning. Ther...
You'll be flying off with the birds soon. Have a marvelous adventure! Buon Viaggio!
Road Trip
I will be leaving for a bit ~ time to unplug from technology for a while. But you know me, I'll be back! I am hoping for very spring-like weather to be here by the time I return. ~Karen
