On Friday, June 1, 2012 the VMware Burlington Staffing and GSS teams partnered together for the Heart and Stroke Big Bike event in Burlington, Ontario. Hosted by the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Big Bike event helps raise awareness and funds for heart disease and stroke research. The Big Bike holds twenty-nine people and VMware was able to fill two bikes for this event. This was a history-making event as VMware was the number one company for fundraising in all of Halton, Ontario! It was a wet and rainy ride as Burlington received 40mm of rain in a six hour period, (It felt like all 40mm came during the ride) but one which we certainly we will never forget. Continue reading

For a vast and populous country like India, where a majority of the people are under the age of 25, providing basic education and healthcare is the biggest challenge for the government. Millions of children in rural India face a lot of hurdles to complete basic education. Rural schools are plagued with a lack of basic infrastructure and teachers. The Burlington office exudes these characteristics. They take pride in being customer focused and really do exemplify the idea of one team. Helping universities nurture talent and provide a platform for learning and knowledge sharing is among VMware’s top priorities. That is why when the local representatives of the international students organization BEST (Board of European Students of Technology) invited us to take part in their Engineering Week initiative in March 2012 - whether to jump in or not was a no-brainer for us. The aim was to challenge a group of students, chosen among hundreds of candidates who applied for the contest. The students were chosen according to their university year and development knowledge. On Friday, April 20, 2012 members of the VMware Singapore office participated in Wear Less Day. Wear Less Day was an energy-saving fun activity for the Team to participate in to honor Earth Day and VMware’s Green initiatives. To prepare for Wear Less Day, the Singapore facilities team partnered with the building management to increase the indoor air conditioning temperature. Studies have shown that turning up the air-conditioning by one degree can lead to 3% in energy savings in a year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. This was the impetus for Wear Less Day. The Singapore Team was encouraged to dress down during this day, by removing the “add-on” piece (i.e. jackets, shawls, cardigans) that most employees wear to stay comfortable during the work day. Employees could also include GREEN in their attire. Environmentally friendly materials such as organic cotton, hemp, thin wool, and bamboo were also clothing suggestions for the day. Continue reading
