We have some new things in the works to improve the "direction" of the site. We are going to start leaning a little bit more to the fun / event side of the city. We'll still post about sports, but sports news and blogs are a crowded landscape here in Philly. Even the bigger ones are finding it tough to stay motivated through the hot weather and cold Phils! :-) So we are going to ramp up more on the interesting things to do in the City and region, including beer festivals, bars, tailgating, clubs and special events like one... Philly.com is reporting that Joe Banner is out as the Eagles President. Don Smolenski will run day-to-day operations while Howie Roseman takes over salary cap and contracts. It is being portrayed as mostly driven by Banner, who is expressing interest in being part of an ownership group. Banner will still be involved as a strategic consultant to owner Jeff Lurie. More details at Philly.com Continue reading

Country superstar Kenny Chesney plays Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field on June 16th... and it looks just 4 days later he moves the show to Wildwood NJ for a FREE concert! His latest album "Welcome to the Fishbowl" will be released on June 19th, so the Wildwood show the next day seems to be a promotional show to celebrate the new record. While the concert is free... 15,000 tickets will be distributed for a reserved up front section, but you need to be an American Express card holder or a member of his fan club to have a shot. The concert... Continue reading

It's June first, and as we head into the long summer baseball stretch, every fan around the country is measuring up their team for the rest of the season. Their have been enough games for teams to gel, and really represent the team's true abilities. Well, except for the Phillies. Today, June 1st... the Phillies have a ridiculous ELEVEN players injured, and four of the players are in what can be considered "premier player" salary region. All totalled, the injury list represents just shy of 70 million dollars!! If placed in the MLB Team Salary list for 2012, the Phillies'... Continue reading

We're not all sports, here at the Bandwagon. One of our favorite movies has a sequel coming out next year... they haven't even started filming... but a trailer was just released today. Officially released on Will Ferrell's "Funny or Die" site, its also available on Youtube and around the interwebs. (You didn't know Ferrell is the guy behind Funny or Die?) Actually.. there are at least 2 versions floating around. This is the one that I DIDN'T see on Funny or Die website. This time, Ron Burgundy is on top. Continue reading

Its not our hometown teams, but putting that aside (and politics), this is a very endearing interview with President Obama where he really gets into details of the Chicago Bulls, and Jeremy Lin. ESPN's Bill Simmons does a great job keeping it respectful, but... more like two guys at a bar discussing their favorite sport. The first minute is a little slow.. then it picks up, and the President... well he knows basketball. Ya think President Obama would be interested in contributing to OnTheBandwagon.com? We'll give him a free t-shirt if he does! Continue reading

For those living under a rock...this week Phillies first basemen Ryan Howard's achillies heal injury formed an infection. The local media has been going back-and-forth regarding... is it a "setback" or not? Recent twitter pics of Howard doing sprints got most of Philadelphia excited "He's going to make it on the opening day line-up". Possibly a false-hope based on Howard and the Phillies pushing a little too hard, a little too early? Maybe we should step back and think these issues are expected in a multiple month recovery time, which has baked into it the fact that these injuries aren't... Continue reading

David Hale of South Jersey's Courier Post (Gannet) captured on video Roy Halladay telling the press the actual story of the fishing trip where Roy and his group crossed paths with a naked man on the side of the river... who had just battled an anaconda. Nice to see Roy show a little personality! But in the end.. very happy if all he does is continue to pitch like a superstar. Continue reading

The Phillies announced today that they signed Kyle Kendrick to a two year deal. This deal replaces the one signed earlier in the year which was done quickly to avoid the arbitration process. Today's signing seems to be along the same thought process... Basically adding a second year and some incentives to keep the arbitration process at bay for an extra year... As well as more time for Kyle to prove what he can really do in the big leagues. Or, are we already past that point and what you see is what you get?! http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/phillies/Phillies-sign-Kendrick-to-two-year-deal.html Continue reading

You can be very successfull in sports and games if you follow the simple mantra "First win the games and plays you're supposed to win, and if you take a few of those that you weren't expecting... you're near the top." I think back at some of the Poker tournaments I've done well in (pure hobby) and I realize "I didn't do anything really stupid, held my ground and it all came down to a few good hands" Well... for the Sixers this year, they are doing exactly that. Winning all of the games they should win, and taking a... Continue reading

Its about the sport, the challenge, facing your fears.... and winning. The Jersey Shore's best Polar Bear Plunge takes place this weekend, in Sea Isle City, NJ. First, what is a Polar Bear Plunge? Well the namesake portion of the event is... sort've exactly how it sounds. In the coldest time of the winter, put on your favorite, funniest, sexiest costume, and... all together now.. plunge into the icy cold Atlantic Ocean!' Surrounding that event, is a lot of other cool and fun activities. It's a weekend long series of fun events for family and partiers... but honestly, its mostly... Continue reading

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition cover was revealed today... and there's a potential sports connection even beyond the fact its a sports magazine. Young Victoria Secret's model Kate Upton (she's 19) takes the prime spot this year. She appeared in the issue for the first time just last year. The other sports connection? Well a New York post article at the end of last year connected her to Jets QB Mark Sanchez... making late night visits to her apartment last November and December. Although not much more has been reported. Not a complaint at all.. but is that a real... Continue reading

Heard on the radio on the way home... 2 years ago a young Flyers team was in the Stanley Cup Finals. Now the Sixers look better. How'd that happen?!

The weekend that was… First some advice. Unless your girl guarantees you some “oh that will never happen in your life time” kinky thing in the bedroom… never, ever, I mean NEVER EVER… attend a performance of Cats the Musical. I don’t know what the hell I watched this past Saturday Night. Has nothing to do with the cast members at the Ritz, who seemed very talented. It’s the play. Can someone explain how this is one of the most successful Broadway plays ever? This is what you need to know. Cats (real ones) lay around lazily doing nothing. Licking... Continue reading

Jeff McClane of the Inquirer posted an article tonight (Sunday) that the Eagles will be pinning the franchise tag on DeSean Jackson. Jeff's article lays out the options, heavily leaning on the Eagles not looking for a long term deal with DeSean. DeSean is a high maintenance young player who didn't exactly live up to all of his own hype last year, but that franchise designation will net him 9 MILLION for this upcoming season, which is basically a 9 million dollar raise from last year. Makes me think that would be enough money to keep DeSean quiet and focused... Continue reading

With the Phillies Spring Training ready to start, the Flyers doing their thing, and a up-near-the top Sixers surprising the league this year... we decided to switch up OnTheBandwagon.com We are putting the focus on blogs... original content and articles. Keep it simple, stupid. (Not very original!) We've moved over to one of the most popular blog services, TypePad. Let's be honest, the "Classic" OTBW was slower than Ryan Howard trying turn a hit off the wall into a double. We are going to use TypePad's comment system... and you may already have an account for it as other popular... Continue reading
