Is there no place on earth for me. Not one peaceful and quiet place where I can be left alone to rest? The little sand mouse slumped, resting her chin on her fist. I had so hoped for some kind of happy existence. Maybe I dream too much, she thought.... Continue reading

Welcome friends and family! Whew! It's a bit dusty in here. I haven't visited the blog in a long while. You see Dear Reader, I fell into the deep abyss of the side tracked and over thinking mind. Things like health, the world and decisions about our future rushed in... Continue reading

With a little experimenting, I have figured out how to transform vintage book pages into fabric. This allows for a bit more flexibility with the thinnest papers in my projects. This bookish flower is off to Oregon to be worn as a hair ornament. So fun, so beautiful! Happy Friday!... Continue reading

Out of clay and silk, muslin and wool roving, paint and thread- a doll emerges. She came of her own accord and settled on to a small space at my work table. She asks for a fur cap with ears. Warm... is what she says, like a Siberian Tiger or... Continue reading

You may love this cake if you love bread pudding. It is so moist it is almost a pudding. It is so good it makes your taste buds sigh. Here is why. After you determine that the cake is done, you set the cake- in the pan- on a rack-... Continue reading

Hello! Happy day and here we go! Crickets, hoppers and birds are all here- singing, shirring, buzzing and clicking. Morning is the best time to go out and listen. I am writing from a screened in porch, so I can listen and smell the pungent air. I can detect the... Continue reading

It's a blustery day on the gulf. Is that a hint of coolness in the air? Driving out to the water is a good way to start the imagination machine. The watery smells and 'boats in the air' are food for thought indeed! I will spend the day in my... Continue reading

Dear Sweet Jenny, This is truth and wisdom! I agree- we need to be 'in the moment' and always aware of what we bring to a gathering of "creative" souls. Showing respect for a teacher-(someone willing to share wisdom), is a sacred tradition. Everyone should honor it. There is absolutley no place for confrontation in contemplative places. These are places to build and grow. Ladies, please bring your highest selves. xo Darcy

This morning started out with sunshine and lots of it! A perfect morning for coffee to go and an exploration around base camp. The first thing to catch my eye was this busy bumble bee. These flowers have no smell that I can detect but the bees slurp up the... Continue reading

It is a misty warm morning here on the gulf. The air is heavy with humidity and sticks to your skin like jelly. These early hours are the best times to put on boots and meander through the garden and nearby forest to see what is up and about. Eyes... Continue reading

I just love red work, especially on vintage embroidery patterns. This pattern is from my Aunt Thelma. She taught me to embroider when I was nine. That's a great memory. She made it fun and we laughed a lot. I am making some simple kitchen towels. I love this soft... Continue reading

I met Albert Einstein in the thirties. We were working on a top secret installation in Florida. The place was dangerous, wild. Poisonous snakes and stinging bugs every where. I spent most of my time underground, in the deep level max security labs attempting to reverse engineer some of the... Continue reading

The rains continue. We are festooned in fungi blossoms! Look at these tiny yellow ones sprouting up from a timber. This tiny frog is one of thousands hopping around our neighborhood. Right now, they are everywhere. Some of the frogs are bright green, some have stripes and some look brown,... Continue reading

Hi There! I've been thinking deep thoughts over here... Have you ever given much thought to the word truth? The word is like a vapor, a whiff of something good and bright like fresh cut lemon. But then, what holds this airy notion together? No two people think of truth... Continue reading

Random thoughts while looking back through my sketch books... The dahlia and koi are very similar, somehow. The koi has the big petal like layered scales, row upon row in beautiful shades of orange and brown and white. The dahlia has row upon row of tightly fitted and layered petals.... Continue reading

This is a fun and interesting excercise for my sketch book. First, I do a watercolor of a simple subject. Then I go to my 'old books' pile to disect words. I start cutting out random words, keeping my mind blank (this part takes practice). Once I have about twenty... Continue reading
