Sebas, The baseball team has stunk it up most of the year. It seems every weekend we get a consolation win. We can't hit, pitching is not to bad but it isn't great either and then there's the errors. Something has to change.

Soup, Trying to freeze the Herb out, with the switch back type pad. I know you like seeing my name in bold blue print. I saw where you sort of put the breaks, on the anti-Al Golden hater, man that's tough really enjoyed his off the wall sarcasm and bantering back and forth with him. I guess it's a cut-throat business.

Here's the word from the Herb on what it's going to take for us to get back to the top: 1.Recruitng. Bigger, stronger, faster. Enough with the reaches. Golden came in and within 6 weeks saved what little of a class we had. Last years class will produce dividends, just not so much this year. We are too mediocre on defense as far as talent goes, especially up front and at LB, we all know this, how can you not see it each week. You need at least 3 to 4 dominate players on defense, to be real good. We don't have anyone up front, at least not yet. Perryman, is going to be good and we don't have a dominate guy in the secondary yet but there is talent their. Look, Golden is no idiot, he knows what we need but getting it is going to be tough. Our defense has been mediocre for some years now, we've had maybe one defensive lineman make all-american the last 8 years and no LB's, well I guess Spence made the freshman all-american team. 2.The coaching staff has to stay in tact. We've had way to many coordinator changes in the past. 3.Keep stock piling capable QB's. This has also been a problem, not having depth or Quality. We do at least have depth but the jury is out on the quality. 4.We have to develop a go to WR. There just hasn't been any consistancy at the position, except maybe a one year wonder here and there. 5.Depth of talent at RB. For the most part, aside from Millers break through year, the RB's have been average at best. 6.We need at least 7 to 8 play makers that are consistent. and it starts with the QB. Somewhere somehow, we have to find another Dorsey or Walsh type, who has the ice wter in their veins syndrome. This recruitng class coming up, although small in numbers, has to provide us, with the get over the hump players. One or 2 top notch DT's, 2 top notch LB's, 2 top notch RB's. We have the QB and a couple top notch DB's and at least get one more WR. 7.Last, make the TE relavent again. The ones we have may not be great but you can't tell me they shouldn't be catching 5 or 6 balls a game. We just don't encorparate them anymore, except to block, which to me makes us easier to defend.

Welcome to Herbie's weekly rant. One Carolina did every thing they could to give us the game. Our defense played better but still coughed up close to 500yds. Why did we not try a FG on the next to last possession and cut the lead to one and then we could of tried a FG to win it. I say this game is on Big AL, plus the play calling went a little Vanilla. We had at least 3 chances in the game to try FG's and didn't attempt any. What the hell have you got FG kickers on your roster if you're not going to use them. Forget the fact that Weiclaw was 1 for his last 6, if you don't have faith in him use Goudis. Our WR's have butter fingers and Dorsett has lost his edge. Lastly you can't develop TE's if you're not going to use them to throw to. Yes the defense still stinks but Golden & Fisch blew this game.

Firing DENO, is really not going to solve our problem. We've had about 5 different D-Coordinators the last 7 years and that hasn't helped, so what is the answer? It ain't the Dam "PLUG" Smith 325 lbs of super goo, or those 3 amigas all 6'1 300 LB pound puppies. If we bring someone else in it's going to be the same dam thing, learning a new system and that will be another excuse. No, the problem lies in 3 things, recruiting, coaching & scheming. Let's be fair to DENO, it's not like he has much to work with up front. I'll admit, AL reached on a few of these boys when he got hired late. (KING & Smith) were brought in after the signing period, because we had absolutely no depth. Then he moves Pierre & Grimble 2 Ends to tackle, chunks on 35 lbs on each of them in a little over a year and throws them to the wolves. That leaves Porter, who has played in 2 games in almost 3 years, Luther Pouty Robinson, and the squat brothers Ivery & Moore. Man that's a who's who of tackles. Who's coaching these blocking dummies, none other than Jethro Tull, it must be because these guys can't be Jethro Franklins boys, not the same guy that once coached at mighty USC. Somebody ain't doing the their job. You can't tell me, even though we have 7 stiffs at tackle we can't motivate 2 of them to play beyond their years? The LB's ain't much better, there making tackles 5 to 7 yds down the field. The scheme stinks, with this high school game plan, the DB's 10 yds off the ball and now we get to recruiting, We have exactly one D-Linemen, verballed as of right now & No LB's. I know they are banking on Grace, Williams & Thomas, at LB, with Thomas the big IF. We have Bryant verballed at DT and that's if his mamma ok's it. Who is out there after that, the Williams kid from Lousiana, who plays DE and there are a couple DT's Bostwick being one who we could end up with and we all see what playing fresman gets you!We need help quick on that side of the ball. We need coaching, schemming & recruiting to soar to another level.

Willie, Pierre & Grimble came in as DE's but since they've Jacked them up 35 to 40 lbs in a little more than a year, they're slow. To much weight to quick. Both would of been better off reshirting last year but since the cubbard was bare they had to play.

Golden stated on Canesport he wishes he had a man on the defensive line, you and all the canes nation both! We got King, Moore & Ivery all standing at 6'1 300 or so pounds, how can they find the QB, when they can't see over the offensive line. Flip flopping the depth chart ain't helping either. Al, if you want men, then dammit recruit them. 6'3 or more. Height, speed and size, that's the ticket. My early prediction for UNC, 45-34. UNC amazes, over 600 yds in total "O" but self destucts because of To'S. Speaking of Weiclaw, since he is a senior, he'll be gone it's time to let Goudis, start doing the kicking and get him ready for next year.

The defense is going to stink the rest of the year and there is no waver wire help. It's time to quit settling for mediocre DLinemen, However you can coach average linemen to at least play above average and we aren't even doing that. The average stars: Rogers Cain Gaines Robinson Telemaque Gunter Smith Armbrister Cornelious Davenport These guys would be at best back-ups anywhere else, Maybe! All have started at one point on our anemic defense. These guys have a chance to be good: Bush Perrymen Kirby Johnson Chick Pierre Grimble Finnie Howard Jenkins Moore Hamilton Ivery All these dudes are either frosh or Sophs and this is where our talent is with these guys and they're having to go to the school of hard knocks. These guys represent our defense, scrubs, subs & pups w/potential. I'll have to admit, I don't see a game, with maybe the exception of S. Fla, that we aren't going to get torched. The rest of these teams we play all have veteran QB's playing who can throw and we all ready see what our rush defense looks like. Honestly you can't tell me we are in the bottom 5 worst defenses in the country, this has to be historic, we are even worst than the MAC teams. DENO it don't take a rocket scientist to figure out what you're doing ain't working and it's your job to figure this mess out you created. We need 2 more wins and will thank you very much and wish you good luck next year in your search for other employment!

Tried posting last night and I see it didn't make it on the board but I'm not going to mince words. This defensive product we are putting on the field is a disgrace. Our defense looks like a high school team trying to stop a college team. I've been saying this for ever and a day, we have pin cushions up front and that includes everyone's darling Chick, who played like one. We let a below average passer (as usual) torch us and then when they saw how easy that was they just ran it down our throats. We have a little more talent at LB than we do on the front I don't see why we don't just run a 3-4, it sure wouldn't hurt. The sad thing is Notre Dame is not that good. The irony of it all, that may be the worst passer we face all year. We play bump and run inside the red zone and any other time we play 10 yds off the man. We get a BS call on the roughing the punter, when he was clearly blocked into him. Dorsett wouldn't have stepped back on the field last night after dropping 2 TDs on the same possession. I counted at least 5 drops & we get a TD called back on a hold that was on the opposite of the play and it was a hold. Way to blow old man Mo Dorsett! Last Jedd goes into the tank with his play calling the rest of the game. Par for the course. I've been giving DeNo a pass because in reality we don't have any and I MEAN any talent at the DT spot and a little above average at LB but how about some kind of adjustments, something. I mean did they even punt in the second half? Hell, ther scrub back rushed for half a huindred on they're last drive. If we don't get our DL fixed it will be the same thing next year. I'm pissed nad I'm done!

OGV, What you got againts Sir Alfred "The Tie" Goldenlocks? I think the dude has done a descent job so far. He's only had one recruting class to call his own and just like the one he saved, this class will be small as well. It's not his buddy DeNo, that's got you tore up is it? I'm pissed too, I'm a born junk talker and I've been muzzled for 10 years, it sux. I get to hit the unmute button once in a while. We just got to get through this year the best we can and there probably is another azz kicking coming from someone, and that's the irony, with our defense it could be 0 for the ACC vs us, Duke. It's just the process brother just trust it, Ha!

Oh, the defense has been bad before. Think back the Jim Bob's first year. Think back to '98. Those two years had alot in common with this year, a bunch of greenhorns on defense.Losing kids early to the draft, injury, or attriciation has left us in the position we are in plus piss poor recruiting at the DT spot, yes I said it again! With no pass rush, or depth of skilled players to rush the passer and LB depth of talent, we are going to be subjected week in and week out to getting lit up like a christmas tree by anyone who puts an offense on the field, and that even means the sisters of the poor. Our defense continually looks like Custers last stand and ND's offense is mediocre at best. If they gut us, it really will be a long season, on that side of the ball.Unfortunately, on the job training comes with a price but the reward next season could be beautiful. I can only image how good we could be if we had some simulance of a defense. As I've said before, it's easy to blame DENO but the reality is we just haven't filled our coffens full with defensive difference makers. We will just ahve to wait and see if the light goes off and one of those DT's starts playing like a SR instead of a freshman. Talking about empty seats at the home games, I'll be glad one day, when we actually do get a hard driven S.O.B. who comes in here and makes it a personal chore of his to get a stadium built. It's ridiculous, that a school of this magnitude, has no stadium. 50 thousand seater is all we need.

Sir Alfred isn't going anywhere. I think he is smart enough to know the resources down here are second to none and I'm not talking about the eye candy. I'm sure once he got here he was like a kid in a candy store, with all the talent, there is in a 100 mile radius to choose from. If and when he leaves it will be after he has gotten this team to the promised land and maybe, just maybe we'll finally shoot some big time bones to a coach, to keep him. We've already coughed up one year of a bowl ban and when we get to 6 wins (# 5 will be this weekend) we will self impose another just to make sure. He would only have to deal with the ship losses, for three years and all the pups we're playing it shouldn't really affect us, unless we have several kids junmp early to the pros. The A.D. job is the least of my concerns, only the product we put on the field.
Toggle Commented Oct 5, 2012 on The Short List To South Beach: Week 6 at Canespace
"F" the A.D. job any stiff can do it. We got bigger problems, with inpending sanctions & our pillow cushion defense. The AD ain't going to help us win games, he can only hire the hangman.
Say it again UMIKE, No matter how good our secondary will be in a year, we still have to have a pass rush and until we get that fixed, Neon Deon would get toasted, well maybe not, they let him hold and grab all the way down the field. I guess that's where the no touch rule after 5 yds came from. Just got through watching some old you tubes of the yesteryear Canes. Man those dudes could play. You here all these coaches, including Golden talk about hostile enviroments and playing on the road, hell those guys back then were just plain rude guest. We took their houses over and made them our own. I mean we were like a broadway play, that no matter where we went, love us or hate us, everybody wanted to see us.Man those were the years!
I beg to differ Alfred, if our offense plays like it did against N.C. St. we will be good enough to beat Notre Shame but unfortunately we have to play defense, UhOh. We've had 5 turd games in a row defensively, it looks like maybe by now we need to start turning the corner and start getting a little better. My opinion, DeNo can rotate 20 guys and we are still 3 to 4 players short on the dee side. We'll just have to wait until next year, to plug the holes in the dam. I just want to get to that 6 win plateau and the sooner the better. I'll breath a sigh of relief, when we obtain that number. With everyone we have coming back next year, we don't need to be on bowl probation. We have a few depth issues but other than that, this team is set for the forseeable future, as long as we keep capable QB's in stock.
Thanks CGNC. Can retire and they had an Ath. Directors job open with NMB Parks & Rec.One way or the other That's where the Herb's going.

I for one after the first couple weeks said Morris was just average and at that stage he was but I think with Jedd opening up the play book and throwing caution to the wind, this kid in fact can play. Having a QB coach will pay dividens. Just think, if we didn't already have about 25 drops, what his completion percentage would be? We haven't even scratched the surface, with our brick hands TE"s yet. Once we incorperate them fully into the offense, it'll be just like the old days!

What's going on with Porter? The Greene Kid from FSU had an appendectomy 2 weeks before Porter did and has been playing. I guess he'll wait until the last 2 games of the year, like last year to play. Speaking of Jucco's it's the luck of the draw when you get um!I'd rather get one that at least had 3 years of eligibility left. I also know for a fact, that Golden had better be hitten up every top flight DT, there is available, to plug up that dam pin-cushion defensive front we have. I have never seen a group so inept at rushing the passer and all the while our secondary looks like a bunch of Pop Tarts, fresh from the toaster! How many ships we have now? 17 or 18? Jermaine Johnson, is another of Shannon's boys. Played as a freshman but hasn't seen to much P.T. since Al got here. Hate to lose depth, but if you ain't willing to work adi dam os!!

Been down at the poor mans South Beach, (North Myrtle Beach) interviewing for a job and those zeros didn't have the game available but by the score, I guess it was whoever had the ball last was going to win. Great it was us. I see the defense is still leaky as ever but we did have 6 takeaways, that probably saved the day and Jake was keeping the bookies in mind, missing three FG's, Al which brings us to the team I hate the most in College football The whining Irish. Here is team ready made for us to gut. Average offense, with a rookie QB but sadly we have a way of making a average QB look like an all_american. Defensively ND hasn't faced an offense like ours, Ok Michigan has some tools but Robinson is a horrible passer. Since our Defense can't seem to stop a cold, this may be ND's chance to get well offensively, I hate to think. They will most assuredly try to run it down our throats, which is what I would do too. We haven't shown any ability to stop the run consistently or the pass for that matter either but we have found a way to win, which is what I see us doing only if the following happen: 1.We have to have at least 125 yds or more on the ground. 2.We have to stop the run inbetween the tackles. 3.Morris has to be as good as he has been, recently. 4.Win the t.o. war. 5.Don't get cold feet. Keep the offense wide open. 6.Can "U" believe 27-24.

Everytime we play big on the road we come home and look like dogs. Have too, Have tooo, have a pass rush Saturday. Can't let Glennon sit back & drink Capt. Morgans all day. This will be the key. We have to hold them around 225 in the air. Still saying 31-27 for Goldies Goucho's.

You know who hates these replacement refs, the bookies. They can't control these guys like they do the real refs. Sam Shields gets shoved into another county and nothing is called & then Tate has one arm on the ball & TD. To many peanlties, probably because these players think they can get away with stuff while real refs aren't there and the fake dudes call everything. It serves the NFL right. The real game is the college game.

I have never been so excited about being wrong. I did mention if we could hold the Techsters around 200 yds on the ground we would have a chance and they didn't get much more than that and that Jedd had to open up the play book, which he did. This helps our cause greatly towards that march to 6 wins. That's the magic number I'm looking at and anything after that is just gravey. This is going to be a see-saw all season. The defense is what it is but the if Jedd dials up the offense, week in @ week -out, we can put points up, these will surely, if anything else, be entertaining, sort of like '98. N.C. State will probably throw it 40 times, so will have to find a pass rush and my early prediction is us beating them 31-27. State has 3 greenhorn linbackers, so just maybe the TE's & RB's can have a field day, catching some passses.

Willie, It probably is true that we have 7 DT's, Let's see Porter, Dude had an appendectamy 6 weeks ago and they still don't know when he'll be back. Maybe just like last year the last 2 games of the season. Pierre & Grimbal came in as DE's, din't get to reshirt and have put on like 35 lbs in one year, too much weight to soon. King finally got to see the field last week and he was a late addition to the team 2 years ago. Smith, a nose tackle, oh I forgot we don't run a 3-4 defense, Robinson, this being his 4TH year, is servicable at best and that leaves Big Earl, a freshman. I believe Briscoe and there is one more Freshman that will reshirt. I forgot about Jr. Alexis, has he played. Not a pretty sight. I'd love to come on here and say wonderful things but truth is the truff. We have Band Aids up front and what we need is a tourniquet.
