Second Floor Flat
London
I live in London with a teddy bear named Bowtie. Before this, I lived in Brooklyn. Before that, I lived in Atlanta. I work in fashion and eat a PBJ every day for lunch, so that makes me quirky.
Interests: Animals, making mood boards, fashion, peanut butter, and boyish clothes. I like to write children’s stories, though to date no actual children have been involved in the reading of these stories.

Since I've started Second Floor Flat, I've changed hosting platforms more times than I can count. But hopefully, this will be the last time. Going forward, you can find me at www.secondfloorflat.com—same gal, same anxieties, fancy new site. I won't be posting at this address anymore, so make sure and... Continue reading

Have a nice weekend, folks. In addition to maxin' and relaxin' I'll be headed to Ikea to get some things for our new flat, watching some movies, and hopefully going to see this exhibit. Meanwhile, look at this photo of me! Just kidding—that's not me, but I wll be wearing... Continue reading

I hope you folks had as nice of a break as I did. We're all clearly suffering a post-holiday hangover, so here's a mood board to help get things moving (or at least get you wishing you were somewhere warm and sunny). Happy January! (Really trying here.) Continue reading

This graphic-print dress from NeedSupply goes perfectly with this patterned dishware, and makes for a nice change from the holiday-ready sparkly dresses and red nailpolish that are everywhere right now, don't you think? Continue reading

After much peer pressure, I decided to give in and start watching Showtime's Homeland. This show has been on my list since it first began racking up Emmys and Golden Globes earlier this year, but between Breaking Bad and Louie and Treme, it's hard to keep up. Continue reading

I’d already been thinking about incorporating more heels into my wardrobe. I figure that if I’m going to be the type of girl who runs away to live with a man in Europe, I should start dressing like it. While I prefer my commute in flats, I’m determined to become the type of girl who can wear + commute in skinny black heels without slowing up the stairwell or looking high maintenance. Continue reading

Lately, there's been a lot of talk in these parts about HBO's Girls, the (obviously amazing) series that's written, directed, produced, and stars Lena Dunham. The show does a great job of showing exactly how I feel, which is perfect and happy and hopeful and odd and nostalgic and sad and confused. Anyone has the possibility of feeling that same set of feelings at anytime in their lives, but there's something about being in your 20s and 30s in New York that takes those feelings to new levels. I'm now approaching my 6-month mark of living as an American expat in London, and the whole thing feels like a flurry of emotions. Some have been good, and some have been bad, but on the whole I'm so glad to be in this city and doing what I'm doing.... Continue reading

Ah, Thanksgiving. One year you're eating orange cinnamon rolls on your mom's floor in Georgia, watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. The next year you're standing by a radiator in London trying to determine which American restaurant would have the best pre-fix vegetarian options for dinner. Guess that's life, eigh? It's... Totally stocking up on some of this for our new flat. (Oh yeah, that's right. We found a place in NE London and are definitely moving next month. Lots of light, a balcony, and a dishwasher. There are no words for my excitement.) And while I'm here, I might stock... Continue reading

This sounds like my deepest, darkest (shall we say erotic?) fantasy, but in fact this video actually exists. Bon Iver is a great guy who can put the entire feeling of winter into a single song. In addition to that small feat, he's also won a Grammy. Since that wasn't... Continue reading
