This summer, my internship was with Planned Parenthood Health Systems in Greensboro, North Carolina. During my internship, myself and another intern assisted the community health educator in running a comprehensive sex education and peer education course called Teens Taking Action. In Teens Taking Action, teens ages 12-18 attend a three week training session in the summer covering topics from puberty and body development to safer sex methods and pregnancy/STI prevention. This year's election saw no shortage of hot button domestic issues; covering everything from drone strikes in the Middle East to women's reproductive rights in the United States. During a time when many people have ended up dividing themselves behind partisan politics, the Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies Department at Guilford chose to address these and other topics in a community panel discussion.
