Jonathan Pettibone struggles in his second start of 2014 Photo Courtesy: Andrew Gillen Despite going just 4-5 on their first homestand of the season, the Phillies had a bit of confidence as they took their plane ride out to Colorado. In their series against the Braves, the team was within... Continue reading

Khris Davis went 2-4 with 2 RBIs in tonight's game After taking the first two games against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, the Phillies have dropped 3 games in a row to fall three games under .500 at 3-6. Last night, poor fielding and late pitching gave the team... Continue reading

Photo Courtesy: Andrew Gillen Just two games into the 2014 campaign, fans have already begun to question some of the decisions manager Ryne Sandberg has made, especially when it comes to the bullpen. Mario Hollands and B.J. were called upon to pitch in a tie game in the ninth inning,... Continue reading

With just a week left until the start of the 2014 season, the Spring Training games become less and less important, and the anticipation of the regular season has reached its high point. However, they still have to (I assume) finish out the remainder of the practice games. Today, the... Continue reading

The Phillies were able to secure win number three yesterday in a victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Amidst some controversy in both the pitching rotation and at the shortstop position, the team was still able to string together some clutch hits and impressive pitching. While I'm sure it wasn't the... Continue reading

Too often this Spring, we've heard about the ailing offense that exist on this Phillies squad. It has stopped the team from winning more than two ballgames, and has made some rather impressive looking pitcher outings into just another another loss. Perhaps it stems from it only being Spring Training,... Continue reading

Photo Courtesy: educata.com Every year, several pitchers, from single-A all the way up through the majors, receive the news that they will have to go through Tommy John surgery. The operation sounds rather simple, but is critical in attempting to save the career of the big hurlers. Essentially, the surgery... Continue reading

Despite the field conditions, baseball was played. Photo Courtesy: Frank Klose Rain, tornado warnings, and a concern for safety all threatened to cancel one, or both, of today's games. The unconventional split squad day was set to have half of the Phillies roster take on Justin Verlander and the Detroit... Continue reading

Photo Courtesy: Steve Trapani Much excitement has surrounded the onset of the Phillies new television broadcast team. Tom McCarthy, Matt Stairs, Jamie Moyer, and even Mike Schmidt himself will split some time in the booth this season. Thus far, the trio of T-Mac, Stairs, and Moyer has received many good... Photo Courtesy: Frank Klose Well, the illustrious second win of Spring Training has been a rather difficult feat for the Phillies to come by since their victory over the Detroit Tigers. The team has certainly faced a few challenges at the plate since the onset of the Grapefruit League, but... Continue reading

mindovermath: First, I appreciate you taking time to read our blog. Since this is a site dedicated to news regarding the Phillies, I consider them to be our "hometown" team, hence the reference. Sure, the regular season does not begin for a few weeks, but these games are still a part of their "campaign" this season, as there are official records and statistics. I've tried, in all of my Spring Training game recaps, to convey my belief that the only thing that matters in said games is how well the players carry themselves on the field, mainly avoiding unnecessary mistakes. This is why I made special note of Roberto Hernandez's performance. While it does not indicate how he will do come the regular season, it does give the coaches a good piece of work to mull over. I apologize if you mistook my recap as an assessment of the team's current state. Thank you again for reading.

It's been a rough start to the 2014 campaign for the hometown Phillies. While we all know that Spring Training records mean just as much as a pitcher's regular season record, it's still a bummer to watch the team fall day after day. As I have said multiple times, though,... Continue reading

Some thought we may even see him emerge as a much more formidable arm compared to what we had heard from his bullpen sessions. However, we learned on Thursday... Continue reading

Yesterday's start to the Phillies 2014 Spring Training round of games was cut short by a sudden rainfall. Before today's game, also against the Toronto Blue Jays, rain once again threatened to ruin the ball game. However, things did get started in time. After a 4-3 loss in seven innings... Nearly five full months have passed since we last saw the Phillies play a full team game. In that time, trades, free agent signings, and broadcast shakeups have made this team much different from what we saw in late September. That could be either good or bad, depending on how... Continue reading
