Still exploring all options for their 2013 outfield, the Phillies are seriously considering signing free agent Delmon Young, sources told CSNPhilly.com Phillies Insider Jim Salisbury. In fact, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. did not deny the Phillies' interest in Young, telling Salisbury, "We've kicked around a lot of stuff. He's among them." Young, the first overall pick in the 2003 draft, hit .267 with 18 home runs and 74 RBIs last season for the American League-champion Tigers. Over seven major... Continue reading

Jimmy Rollins was the lone Phillie announced Thursday as a member of the United States' provisional roster for the World Baseball Classic. The veteran Phillies shortstop is one of three returning players to the American team, along with Shane Victorino and Ryan Braun. Rollins will be surrounded by David Wright, Brandon Phillips, Mark Teixeira with Joe Mauer behind the plate. Giancarlo Stanton, Adam Jones and Braun are set to start in the outfield. R.A. Dickey, Ryan Vogelson, Derek Holland and... Continue reading

Jonathan Singleton, one of the key prospects the Phillies sent to Houston in the 2011 Hunter Pence trade, was suspended on Wednesday for the first 50 games of the 2013 season after testing positive for marijuana. The 50-game suspension indicates this is Singleton’s second offense. Singleton, one among a group of former Phillies’ prospects playing well in other organizations, was traded for Pence along with Jarred Cosart, Domingo Santana and Josh Zeid. The left-handed hitting first baseman is ranked by... Continue reading

Minutes ago, this year’s Baseball Hall of Fame results, the most debated in some time, were revealed. And not all that unexpectedly, none of the players on the ballot garnered the 75 percent of votes needed for induction into Cooperstown. Craig Biggio, the seven-time All-Star for the Astros, was the closest to election, earning 68.2 percent of the writers' votes. Jack Morris garnered 67.7 percent, while Jeff Bagwell checked in with 59.6 percent. Both Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens each... Continue reading

Dontrelle Willis, who for three months in 2011-12 was a member of the Phillies, decided to come out of retirement and sign a minor league contract with the Cubs, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Heyman reports that the deal does not include an invitation to major league camp. As you know, the Phillies gave Willis a chance last year and it didn’t go so well. The left-hander was released March 16 after just three appearances in the Grapefruit... Continue reading

Another former Phillie has found a new home. Brett Myers agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday. The deal, which won't become final until Myers passes a physical, also contains a club option for the 2014 season. Myers posted a 3.31 ERA over 70 relief appearances between the Astros and White Sox last season. However, Terry Francona's new club plans to use Myers as a starter, according to MLB.com. Myers isn't the only former... Continue reading

With Nick Swisher and Cody Ross off the market (and very handsomely paid), Scott Hairston is arguably the best corner outfielder available. Would acquiring Hairston make the Phillies a better team? The answer is probably only marginally, as Hairston, a platoon player, wouldn’t solve the questions surrounding the double corner outfield platoon idea that is driving some fans crazy. But if you’re going that route, and with not too many options out there, the 32-year-old veteran would give the Phillies... Continue reading

On Tuesday afternoon, Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. mentioned a possibility that the Phils could use a platoon in both of their corner outfield positions. “A lot of it depends on how we feel about that combination of players in the corners,” Amaro said. “Whether Darin Ruf can step up and be an everyday player, whether Domonic Brown can be an everyday player, whether John Mayberry can be an everyday player, or whether this combination – Laynce Nix as... The Phillies have signed veteran left-hander John Lannan, presumably to be their fifth starter, according to CSNPhilly.com Phillies Insider Jim Salisbury. Busy few hours for Ruben Amaro Jr. and Co., as this comes out just hours after the KRISTV report of the Mike Adams' signing (which multiple outlets have since confirmed). Lannan spent each of his first six major league seasons with the Nationals, compiling a 42-52 record and a 4.47 ERA. All of his 134 career appearances have been... Continue reading

According to Anthony Gargano, co-host of Sportsradio 94WIP's midday show, the Phillies have offered free agent outfielder Josh Hamilton a three-year contract. Glen Macnow, Gargano's co-host, tweeted the report, which cites a "good source," on Tuesday evening. The entire tweet is below. My radio partner, Anthony Gargano, has it from a good source that the Phils have offered Josh Hamilton a three-year contract. — Glen Macnow (@RealGlenMacnow) December 11, 2012 This is the first report pegging the Phillies as interested...
