There are a lot of sunflowers grown commercially here in Fannin County. Every summer we get glorious fields of sunflowers. I snapped these a couple of years ago. I decided to pick 6 of them and prepare to sell them as downloads on one of my Etsy Stores, Digital Funhouse.... Continue reading

I was looking back on my original home restoration blog today. I hadn't paid much attention to it since I moved from Wordpress to Typepad. Here's a shot of my living room before I started working on it. Actually, this is just a close-up of the fireplace, but you can... Continue reading

This is the nook created by the former owners when they enclosed the breezeway between the house and the garage. It was poorly done. Note the haphazard trim and the out of place big-pane windows. The door leads into the laundry room, once envisioned as a Pinterest Nirvana of utilitarian... Continue reading

A little over a week from posting this, I can say that it continues to work. We added two more traps in the kitchen and the "ant presence" drops every day. I'm also using the vinegar solution to spritz my dog to ward off fleas. Here's to a bug-free summer!

I ran across a wonderful insert in one of the 1950s magazines in my collection. It had lots of salads, including classic 1950s molded and fruit salads, so I decided to convert the whole thing to digital format and put it in my store. You can see it here in... Continue reading

Since I've been following my Pinterest Boards through Pinterest Analytics, I find that certain categories rise and fall through the year. Of course, right now some of the top pins on my boards are garden pins. Here are my top ten garden pins for the last 30 days. I've supplied... Continue reading

After taking a break from blogging for a while, I noticed when I came back that my blog had a distinctly old fashioned look, with a teeny banner that wedged in the middle of the page. I spent the morning sprucing it up. Now that it looks all pretty, I'm... Continue reading

It's been quite a while since I've posted, but since the leaves on the trees started to bud and the world gets greener, I realize I've missed it. Just to get started again, I'm posting a vintage pattern, actually two from the 70s, but the one I really like is... Continue reading

Sirracha Honey Wings I made these for the family and ate them all before they got home. The recipe says to cook them in the crockpot and glaze in the oven, but I simplified it but just cooking them in the oven. I put the chicken wings (frozen) on a... Continue reading

Use Paas Color Snaps (for easter egg decoration) to dye small bits of fabric. I bought a bunch of these on sale a couple of years ago and never knew what to do with them. I started making muslin rosebuds and wanted an easier way to make a colored edge.... Continue reading

After a flurry of fingerless gloves, I've turned my attention to, yes, Mason Jars. I know, everything that could possibly be done to a Mason Jar has been, but I'm still fascinated by the idea of a common utilitarian object that has the power to inspire so many people to... Continue reading

I made this series of fingerless gloves for Etsy. They are fun and easy to make, and I've already sold a pair. I've seen lots of styles of fingerless gloves and tried many patterns, but this is my favorite. It's a basic pattern that you can change and add anything... Continue reading

My Personal Pinterest Test Kitchen Says.... Thumbs up on this one. Here in Texas we wait a long time for Fall. It stays around for about 5 minutes and BINGO! It's winter, follwed by our 7 minute spring that leads into our six month summer. We have to pack all... Continue reading

This lamp belonged to my mother. In her house it seemed just fine. Everything was always neat and dusted and in unyielding good taste. At my house it just seemed forlorn and ugly. Out of context, I could see the worn, dingy, shade and the dated brass finish was something... Continue reading

Love at first sight. That's what it was when I saw these trays nestled together at a flea market. Alas, they were bought to be sold and I will have to sell them. The thing I can't decide is whether to sell them as is, or create something with them.... Continue reading

I'm sorry to report on the failure of this project. Instead of the one afternoon I planned, I had to abort the mission after three days of trying to paint the skeletons (without spray paint). I simply had to move on. Still,it's a good idea as is. If you don't... Continue reading

Since I've been selling crochet stool covers on Etsy, I've had several requests for custom sets, but haven't known quite how to go about it. Duh, the answer is simple. My favorite yarn for this project is I Love This Yarn by Hobby Lobby. It's an economical, yet soft and... Continue reading

This is a work in progress, so you'll have to wait for the final pictures. I just wanted to share my latest project while I'm still working on it. Months ago, I discovered some very old Perkins paper napkins at Eagerly Sought, our very own hometown vintage emporium. I put... Continue reading

Here's more about the little cabinet. It came to me painted dark brown with sort of a tole painting of a wine bottle. The first thing I did was to give it a primer coat of plain flat white. Just whatever white paint was around, then I added the main... Continue reading

Months ago I picked up some artist's modeling paste at my favorite place in the whole world, the craft store. I didn't really know what I was going to do with it, but I just kept it in my cabinet and thought about how to use it. Finally I started... Continue reading

I set out to make a Mid Century Christmas pack for Etsy . First, I gathered vintage images from around the web, restored and re-colored, then put them all together to make 3x5 postcards, 4x6 cards, and sheets of gift tags. I was also able to use (under license) the... Continue reading
