Just to provide some context on this horrifying incident: while technically Moreshet Yisrael is part of the Israeli Masorti movement, it is located at the Jerusalem HQ of North America's United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, a technically separate organization. CJ has always been seen as "Amerikai" by Israelis, although with the growth of liberal Judaism in Israel hopefully that is starting to change. I guess it doesn't help that they chose to put the English so prominently on their signage.. btw, I assume the vandals still want American $ coming in, right?

Not enough information as to his background to say "what kind" of Orthodoxy. I only point out that (a) one needs only to look at the ugly comments on the CBS article to see that his being Jewish absolutely matters; this too-frequent type of crime fuels anti-Semitism; (b) to say that he's obviously not Haredi because he's not trembling before anyone is merely the no-true-Scotsman fallacy and creates the thought-terminating tautology that Haredi crime is impossible.
