Life of Seven: I love being busy and am always in the middle of about ten projects. I have to always be making something. I love being around my family and all the noise and chaos with a house full of kids. I also love trying to organize it all and keep it clean. Well, sometimes I like to. It is can also be a big giant hassle. My daughter Cate also blogs at her adorable and well written site, belovedbooks.
Interests: Jen (Life of Seven): Knitting, reading, friends, any type of crafting, organizing when I'm in the mood, cooking from fun and interesting recipes, homeschooling, listening to my children play piano, church, theology, Jesus. Cate (Jen's daughter, belovedbooks): My interests are about the same as Mom's. I like to sew, craft, work in the garden, cook, and bake. About my favorite thing to do is read, that is the way I spend most of my spare time. I love hanging out with friends, going to church, and playing piano. And I love to write, so I hope you enjoy my blog.

Happy Easter, friends! I hope you found the day to be as glorious as I did. Easter is at the same time a completely sobering and absolutely joy-filled holiday for me, as I imagine it would be for anyone who celebrates the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, as... Continue reading

This is how I find him on the morning of his thirteenth birthday. It could have just as easily been a shot of him playing with a ball, any ball. I think he loves sports as much as he loves music. But this morning, he couldn't resist the new stack... Continue reading

Now to talk about these three. They bring so much joy into the house and in our family. Jude and Truman are both learning to play piano, and it's so much fun to watch them learn and discover how to play a new song that they end up loving. Clemmie... Continue reading

Hi Dawn, you have certainly hit the nail on the head, and a big reason reading has suffered. It seems like I have enough creative energy to focus on one hobby at a time, and yes, in general, it is either reading or knitting. Even if I have time to fit in both, I don't have the concentration to focus on both. I've gotten better at the balance this year, though, by doing audio books while driving, and by staying off the internet more and reading actual books instead. I have had similar situations with my kids, when we've attempted to read a book together, and I've fallen woefully behind. Also, funny thing, my daughter was given a lovely copy of Wuthering Heights for her birthday. It may have to go on my reading list for the year.

We were looking at old photos on Facebook last night, and my heart broke a little, realizing how many memories were on there, even though I don't feel that I put all that many photos up. And I realized I had hardly taken a picture since my last post, back... Continue reading

You know it's something special when your twelve year old son notices your knitting on a chair and says, "Wow, Mom, that's a beautiful shawl!" I have to agree with Gideon, this may be one of the prettiest things I've ever knitted. The pattern is Lilli Pilli, and an extremely... Continue reading

When you are the youngest in a family of seven children, sometimes your siblings dress you up as The Christmas Elf. It is just comes with the territory. However, if you are two, then playing the role of Christmas Elf is pretty close to the best thing in the entire... Continue reading

``````` As I've gotten older, I've begun to realize that there's nothing better than a day devoted to remembering all of the blessings in my life. When I was young I thought this aspect of Thanksgiving (sitting in a circle and discussing what we were thankful) was extremely boring. What... Continue reading
Yesterday, Gideon and Evie asked if they could paint. Since they were in their little room away from the little kids I carelessly replied, "Sure." This morning they showed me the painting they had made. Maybe because most of my kids' paintings end up looking like mud, I was both... Continue reading
Last post, I wrote about my intarsia sweater that I was determined to finish. Well, apparently, this fingering weight fair isle pushed itself ahead of the intarsia sweater and I finished that instead. That's why it's never a good idea to commit your knitting commitments in writing. Here is my... Continue reading
If you look at the date on my ravelry project page, I started this in February 2013. That's a long time. I've taken lots of breaks in the knitting, of course, but I pulled it back out a few days ago, and decided I really, really want to finish it... Continue reading
Wow, guys, sorry I haven't checked in for a while. The last couple of weeks, as you may have guessed, have been quite busy. Part of it involved an anniversary/birthday trip that Ben and I went on for three days to California. Okay, why lie? We spent all three days... Continue reading
Here ya go, folks: Merriment cardigan and bonnet. You can probably tell from the delight I had taking the pictures that this project was a winner. I used Drops merino, which was a great price, and definitely seems like it will hold up well to a two year old's antics.... Continue reading
When I look at these photos, I think, It's too bad Clementine Merriweather doesn't have many dimples...then I chuckle to myself at how hilarious I am. She's got dimples upon dimples upon dimples. As you can probably tell, this little girl turned two yesterday. My littlest baby, still a baby... Continue reading
Ooooops...totally meant to post before another week went by but that's the way life goes sometimes. Well, gear up because I feel like writing today. An organized blogger would put all these thoughts and photos into two or three posts, but I never said I was an organized blogger. Or... Continue reading
Wow, that's what I was a little worried about with Jude's thumb! My friend found nail polish that you can put on the thumb the child sucks that doesn't taste good, and her two year old stopped that day. I put a band-aid on Jude's thumb, and that got him to mostly stop, but those early mornings, the thumb would sneak into his mouth.
Wow, I just realized my last blog post title was "Another Week". How exciting, that's going to attract a lot of readers, I'm sure. Haha. And this title? Clementine's Pacifier? No more intriguing than the last one, I'm afraid, but sometimes that's life. That's me, always looking for excitement in... Continue reading
All in a week...You can see a sneak peek of the craigslist purchase I told you about, though it isn't finished yet. Stay tuned for another post about that. I can't wait to show you. Um, Clementine, feeding her baby in the high chair? Makes my heart melt. "Hungry, Baby?"... Continue reading
Thank you, Charlotte. It's funny how we get the ideas of feeling inadequate. So many missionaries and martyrs are held up as the example, which is certainly never a bad thing, but often the "common" Christian can feel glossed over as being unimportant and insignificant. Whereas if everyone was a loving neighbor to those around them right where they were at, then just by that alone the world could be reached effectively with the love of Christ. It took me years to understand this. God works from the inside out: first the individual, then the family, then the local church, then the immediate community, and then the world.
Well, I don't quite know what is happening to me. I have always been a self-declared hater of summer, with September through December being my absolute favorite time of year, and no holiday possibly topping Christmas. Well, now I can't decide if any season, even my beloved fall, could possibly... Continue reading
