Life of Seven: I love being busy and am always in the middle of about ten projects. I have to always be making something. I love being around my family and all the noise and chaos with a house full of kids. I also love trying to organize it all and keep it clean. Well, sometimes I like to. It is can also be a big giant hassle. My daughter Cate also blogs at her adorable and well written site, belovedbooks.
Interests: Jen (Life of Seven): Knitting, reading, friends, any type of crafting, organizing when I'm in the mood, cooking from fun and interesting recipes, homeschooling, listening to my children play piano, church, theology, Jesus. Cate (Jen's daughter, belovedbooks): My interests are about the same as Mom's. I like to sew, craft, work in the garden, cook, and bake. About my favorite thing to do is read, that is the way I spend most of my spare time. I love hanging out with friends, going to church, and playing piano. And I love to write, so I hope you enjoy my blog.

Do you need any of that today? If there's one thing I find myself needing to get through the day in and day out, it's that. Here are some scriptures I have been thinking about recently: "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will... Continue reading

We all love Evie's new hair cut! She has had her hair bobbed like this for quite a few years, actually, but I think it has been a good year since the last haircut. Having it grow out a bit meant we could braid and style it a bit more,... Continue reading

I had to run to the music store this morning and spied the music to the live action Cinderella movie, one of my all time favorite movies. I couldn't resist picking up a copy to surprise the kids. You see, our beautiful, crystal Cinderella resides on our baby grand piano... Continue reading

We had such a wonderful time celebrating Cate's 18th birthday with family and friends. A friend suggested making the party a fancy dress up one, with live background music (plenty of willing participants for that around here!) and I knew that would be perfect. We bought plenty of bouquets and... Continue reading

I thought that I would give a little insight into some of our schoolwork today. You can get some idea from Evie's checklists made for herself, above, what one of our a school days looks like. This is from a day when I was going to be gone for a... Continue reading

***Finds blog site, checks login info, dusts off keyboard, wiggles fingers in anticipation*** My husband paid me what I took as a compliment the other day, though it perhaps wasn't intended as such. "Your worst failing in life," he began. "Oh, no Ben," I groaned. "Do we have to have... Continue reading

Please meet Sigrid. Oh, you guys. This was probably the funnest doll making project I have ever undertaken. The gem of the idea of Sigrid came to me about a year ago, when I knit with Lettlopi, which is made from Icelandic sheep's wool, for the first time. This yarn... Continue reading

Well, I think the pictures should say it all. I want to write more, but in summary, there has been doll making and a three year old's birthday party. It is our anniversary, and Ben and I are running out the door to go out to breakfast. But soon, very... Continue reading

Well, first I was going to write a blog post about this darling little pony I am knitting (Here's my project). This is gonna be a pony, not a unicorn, okay? With a floral saddle blanket and all. Why am I knitting a pony? Because sometimes you've just got to.... Continue reading

Oh, yea, I think this would work really well for a bigger child. I would make the largest size, and use a thicker ear, such as sport or DK weight. The pattern is very versatile!

Remember a couple of years ago when Cate and Grace fixed up the old attic? Well, that inspiration got the wheels in my head turning, and I decided I wanted to convert our shed by the garden into a special place for Evie, as well as make the surrounding areas... Continue reading

Here's one of those "sweater-sized" projects I mentioned last week. Here is the link to mine on ravelry, here is the link to the (free!) pattern on ravelry. The instant I saw the pattern, of course, I thought, I must make this while I still have a little girl to... Continue reading

Happy Easter, friends! I hope you found the day to be as glorious as I did. Easter is at the same time a completely sobering and absolutely joy-filled holiday for me, as I imagine it would be for anyone who celebrates the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, as... Continue reading

Now to talk about these three. They bring so much joy into the house and in our family. Jude and Truman are both learning to play piano, and it's so much fun to watch them learn and discover how to play a new song that they end up loving. Clemmie... Continue reading

Hi Dawn, you have certainly hit the nail on the head, and a big reason reading has suffered. It seems like I have enough creative energy to focus on one hobby at a time, and yes, in general, it is either reading or knitting. Even if I have time to fit in both, I don't have the concentration to focus on both. I've gotten better at the balance this year, though, by doing audio books while driving, and by staying off the internet more and reading actual books instead. I have had similar situations with my kids, when we've attempted to read a book together, and I've fallen woefully behind. Also, funny thing, my daughter was given a lovely copy of Wuthering Heights for her birthday. It may have to go on my reading list for the year.

You know it's something special when your twelve year old son notices your knitting on a chair and says, "Wow, Mom, that's a beautiful shawl!" I have to agree with Gideon, this may be one of the prettiest things I've ever knitted. The pattern is Lilli Pilli, and an extremely... Continue reading
