Despite my capstone project not being over yet, I feel that I have a lot of experience that I can pass on to next semester's students, and even those beyond them. For one, it would be to make sure to start the project as early as possible. My cohorts will say the same thing, but it is because it is worth repeating. Time will always be a factor of the project, and that is something all students are going to have to deal with. Even if you feel that the project is not going to need all the time allotted,... Despite being the week before the final presentation, I feel that there is still so much to do before submitting the final report. What is even more stressing, is the thought that there was still so much more that I could have done for the project. I think about all the things that I would have done differently and the directions I would have taken instead..I am confident that the report I turn in next week will be good, but one cannot help but wonder. This is where having frequent and productive client meetings come in. These regular check-ins hello... Continue reading

With only a few weeks left in the semester, I finally get to move on to seeing how our research can move into fruition. It is an exciting time. While knowledge is its own reward, it is great to be able to give tangible value and recommendations to the client. Hopefully, these recommendations can be implemented. I sometimes think about how I am going to revisit the product years from now and see how things have changed since I was gone. In general, I feel as though I am more than just a part of the project, and I am... Continue reading

The survey has finally gone out and I await results. We will take the results and analysis of this survey and use it to inform the next few weeks. This has made it a good time for me to catch up on some other aspects of the project, like writing my final deliverable. Of course, while I am looking ahead to the end, there is still plenty of work to do. I plan on asking a couple of my professors for some help on the project, and I can't help but wish I had some more time to work on... Continue reading

Spring Break has started, meaning that there are no classes this week and more time to work on the project. Currently, the survey is prepared and we plan to launch it today for results to come in later in the week. In the meantime, I will be putting all the information we have obtained up to this point in the final deliverable document. I actually am looking forward to this step despite all the mental labor it is going to take. I had mentioned in an earlier blog post that I like to have a mental check-in with myself to... The past week was perhaps the most insightful one yet. As I continue learning about my audience, it is more and more apparent to me just what type of person we are reaching to. While some more complex characteristics, like personality, may not be readily apparent, their situations are starting to blend together with a unique sense of commonality. While exhausting, such discoveries are rewarding and provide me with much more confidence in the quality of my work. Work like this makes you realize that simply talking to people can give you a plethora of unexpected information. Of course, I... Continue reading

Hello All, For this week's post, I will list some of what I have done previously for anyone that needs help. As we learned in the Butterfly Effect lesson last week, we can gain information from many unexpected places. For me in particular, it might mean researching competing companies or firms to see how they do their own research. I have worked with Kings Island for every summer since 2011 in some capacity. What is most relevant with this class is my event marketing internship that I have done with them for the past 2 summers. In it, we planned... Continue reading

As the weeks fly by I am eagerly anticipating the start of my interviews for the project. While I wait for potential interviewees, I am making sure to tie all the loose ends that I can on my end. Doing things like creating the final report, gathering statistics, and putting together diagrams have been very helpful in keeping my mind focused on the next task. I know it will also pay off in the end when I eventually have to finish and submit the report. Still, much of the project is yet to be completed. If I have any advice... Continue reading

As we continue to perform research to get a better understanding of our users, I am starting to notice some patterns. While qualitative research may be difficult to conduct, it is yielding some fascinating discoveries. That being said, we still have much more research to do. At this point in time, this is when I feel that my other classes are really starting to come into play. Currently, I am taking a consumer insights class and it is really helping me prepare for some talks that I want to engage in for the project. For example, letting silence overtake the... In the current phase, we are scheduling new appointments for research. I am becoming more and more grateful for members of the company being able to take time out of their schedule to help with the project. I believe the next few weeks will give us some of the most important insights we could get in this project. I am also realizing how helpful any type of data can be. Sometimes, data can come from unexpected places and give you a new perspective on the problem you are trying to solve. I find myself saying, "maybe it isn't this we... Continue reading

I was able to meet with the client and discuss what our objectives were going to be for the rest of the semester. As I hoped and mentioned in my previous post, the project looks like it is going to have a major impact on me and the people around it, which is an incredibly rewarding feeling. For now, I am making sure that I am setting good milestones for myself, which is always more complicated than it seems. There is always the worry that you are setting yourself up for too much, but anxious that you are not putting... Continue reading

My relationship with Unifund is one that I see having great potential. Since we plan to meet later this week for details on the project, I have been spending my time learning about the debt collecting industry and the relationships that happen in it. When I honestly evaluated myself before the start of the project, I had to admit that I have little to no experience with the business that Unifund is in. However, as I began to understand the legalities and methods of this business, it seems to me that there is a great potential for the project. I... Continue reading
