I cannot believe this is my last blog post! This semester has flown by and it leaves me nervous, yet excited for the future. This week will be a busy one for my project. I have a discussion with Drew tomorrow to review my whitespace adjacency analysis. In addition, I finally have three interview leads to reach out to this week! Moreover, I will be working on my final presentation, which is scheduled for 4/20 and I will also be working on my accompanying paper. This project was interesting and challenging for me in ways I was not expecting. Because... Continue reading

I am beginning to finalize my capstone project and prepare for my presentation. I have been please with the direction my project has gone in and am eager to share the final version with my client in a few weeks. I still need to tie up a few loose ends like finding an interviewee. My client has put me in touch with one of his colleagues that has a great deal of connections in the agriculture space so I am hoping that she can get me in contact with someone. Also, I am finishing up my white space adjacency analysis... Continue reading

This week, I spoke with my client to make sure that my ideas were aligned with his expectations for this project. This went well because we had similar ideas of improvements that can be made. For me the greatest takeaway was that he wants me to make what the organization already does better when identifying whitespaces. In addition, my focus on corn farming also fit with his scope for the project. He was also able to put me in touch with some one that may be able to help me coordinate an interview. I need to begin writing my final... Continue reading

Spring break was a great opportunity for me to work on my project. This week I began finalizing some of the integral components of my project and furthering the other areas that have not been completed yet. This week I plan to have an almost complete draft of my project that I can discuss with my client before the project is due. In addition, I have a lead for an interview for my project that I think could provide some extremely helpful insight on the digital farming industry. He works at Kubota and as a result the area I am... Continue reading

There were not any major changes or revelations for my project this week. I am currently having difficulties finding a person knowledgeable about digital farming to interview. I have reached out to multiple people and associations but am not receiving any responses. I have a few potential interviewees and am hoping something pans out. My client and I have had difficulties arranging a time to speak and we have not spoken since our initial meeting. I am trying to schedule a time soon but have not heard back in a few days and last week when our meeting was scheduled... Continue reading

This week was important for the future of my Capstone project. I worked with Drew on innovation ideas for corn farming. We narrowed our closed world down to items such as irrigation, storage, and tilling. From there, we looked at the individual components of each closed world to determine ways to apply the five techniques of the S.I.T Method. As a result, I will be creating a dream catalogue for potential products. From the dream catalogue, I will identify adjacencies that exist from which my client can expand its reach for my analysis. This week, I also reached out to... Continue reading

This week was crucial for my capstone project. I am starting to progress and now have a clear path to take to fulfill my client’s needs. My charter has been finalized, so from there I can begin to build out my project. I have been working on a current big picture analysis and a closed world from which I can innovate based on my client’s offerings. I have chosen to create a dream catalogue around corn farming because it plays an important role in the United States economy. Corn reacts dramatically to water, nutrients, and radiation, so my thought is... Continue reading

Each week, I dive further into what was once an unfamiliar topic. To exemplify, I continually gain knowledge about what digital farming is and the future of the industry. Because I am not entirely positive what the outcome of my project will be yet, this helps me to somewhat progress in my project. I have been researching more about digital farming and the Bayer CropScience brand. I feel like it is important to know where the company is at so I can help market to where they plan to go in the future. To exemplify, in November, Bayer launched its... Continue reading

Currently, my Capstone project has me feeling challenged and confused. I feel like my project is at a bit of a standstill because we are still working on the parameters of the deliverables I can offer. Therefore, I have not made as much progress as I would have liked at this point in the semester but I am hoping to make up for this in the upcoming weeks. Because Bayer is so large and already has a great deal of information on digital farming, I need to discuss the assets I can use with my client and what avenues of... Continue reading

My Capstone project has been an interesting learning experience thus far, and I do not foresee that changing. To exemplify, I was assigned to work with Barefoot Proximity on a client project for Bayer CropScience. The initial client meeting went as expected, as I met with Craig from Barefoot Proximity. We both introduced ourselves and discussed a little bit about our work history. Then, he told me about his history with the Bayer account and some of the work the company has done for them. He continued by telling me about the farming industry, where it is and the potential... Continue reading
