Hi Lisa, thanks! I get that effect with my phone. The latest iPhone operating system version (IOS11) has a new feature in the camera app that lets you do it. I can show you on Sunday or Monday. Otherwise look for iPhone Photography School on FB, there are quite a few free instructional videos including one on how to use this feature

While driving to Manly this morning I heard an interesting piece on the radio about the forecast weather patterns in Australia. It appears the tropical Pacific Ocean is approaching La Niña thresholds, and we are verging on a La Niña alert. This likely 2017-18 La Niña event is forecast to... Continue reading

Hi Edwina, seriously from the surface the wobby looked like a clump of seaweed, it was just luck that I dived down for a look

Good morning everyone, and Happy Sunday. It's really starting to feel like summer - the hazy humid air, the surf lifesaving season in full swing, nippers, blue sky and how nice is it to get out of the water and not be cold! The early swimmers got a good start... Continue reading

For the past few months I haven't swum Cabbage Tree Bay as often as I'd like - for reasons of travel and health mainly (came back with a Northern Hemisphere lurgy). Today's blog is a dry blog, but being at our spiritual home is still a delightful tonic for this... Continue reading

Thanks Lainey! I read some blogs that are very profound and cerebral and don't feel I can measure up to those. I guess mine are just stream of thought.

There were no newbies today. Maybe they were the sensible ones In case you were wondering, yes the water was cold. Just ask the very bold and very beautiful swimmers who braved the frigid depths with no wetsuit. No stats on this, but around 250 swimmers lined up for their... Continue reading

Another spectacular sunrise rewarded those of us who left the warm comfort of the doona today. The chilly air just served to spice things up. Weather app, I have a bone to pick with you, I don't for one second believe your report of a 12.8 degree morning. My drive... Continue reading

Credit to Fran Whitfield for the mermaid on the rocks and below the surface. And the stunning couture outfit.
Thanks Paul, too kind
Thanks Shelley. Im gutted I missed posting her land arch photo. First and last time I blog on a work day. I think I was level with the yellow shed when Sterling and Co got back to Manly so I missed his moment of pink-clad glory.

Happy Saturday everyone! Yes we are officially on the other side (you might say the back side if you were here on Tuesday) of the solstice and our side of the planet turns sunwards once more. If you were thinking the cold weather is over, well I'm sorry, it's not... Continue reading

With first light at 6:30, sunrise at 6:58, a calm sea and a low tide it was a long quiet stroll to the shoreline and another long walk almost to the point for the few 6:30 starters. How different from the bright summer sunrise, but spectacular nonetheless. The winter solstice... Continue reading
