One week! I can’t believe one week from today I’ll be doing my presentation and hopefully leave the meeting with a smile on my face and a big sigh of relief. This past week has been pretty crazy. I moved to Minneapolis on Saturday to start a new job in marketing, meaning my mind has been going in a million different directions for a while. Three weeks left...at least until my presentation. This past week I've been working on my PowerPoint presentation and final paper. It's been stressful but eye opening to sort through my data to see trends and understand what Angleboard's clients are looking for from the company in the future. It's all feeling really overwhelming all the sudden. I can't believe we only have three more weeks left before capstone is over. I'm focusing on more quantitative research this week. Because the response rate was lower than my client expected (about 15%) for the phone interview portion of the project, I created an online survey to send to all clients who weren't able to speak with me over the phone. I’m getting stressed now. It’s been fun spending my time interviewing people for the past couple weeks, but now that’s it’s over I’m getting anxious for the rest of this project. I’m working now on my SWOT analysis for Angleboard, as well as a competitive matrix. When I first talked with my clients at the beginning of the semester, they had mentioned that although this project was geared toward tactical execution, they wanted some information on where they landed within their competitors. Last week I had hoped to have all of my interviews completed for this portion of the project, but you know nothing ever goes as planned! These interviews were with distributors and end-users of Angleboard, where I discussed the qualities each person looks for when purchasing edge protection and how Angleboard is meeting their needs. Unfortunately, the turnout for these interviews wasn't as high as Angleboard thought. They provided me with 102 clients and only 14 wanted to talk to me (a handful of others were "maybes.") I spent the majority of the last two weeks interviewing distributers and end-users of Angleboard. Some of these interviews have lasted all of five minutes, and included only praise about the company. It's great to hear, but it's not always helpful. However, just this past Friday I had four interviews and I gathered some great information throughout the day. Most of the people I've talked to have been distributers, and it's interesting to hear about their needs from the company. I spoke last week about my current task, which is interviewing Angleboard’s distributers and end-users to understand their view of the company and where they’d like to see the company move in the future. I’ve sent an email to all 102 clients, but unfortunately have only heard back from about 10%, some of whom don’t want to partake in the assessment. This week is when the real work begins. I'll be starting to phone interview distributers and end-users of Angleboard to understand their perception of the company's core competencies and values. I've started to realize that the timeline I created for my project charter will help me ease into the enormous amount of work that needs to be done for this project. The deadlines throughout the semester help make things a little less overwhelming. So far I've accomplished four out of 13 tasks so I'm on the right track! This past week I submitted my charter to Angleboard for review. I received word on Friday that they had approved the charter (yay!) so now the real work begins. I'm only a couple of weeks in and I'm already having fun with this project. The company I'm working with is Angleboard, a shipping protection manufacturer that's known for their edge protection. I had my first phone call with my three main contacts, Nancy, Randy and Gary, the week of January 8 and was excited to find out I was working on a tactical execution plan for the company.
