Like many of my classmates have noted, there are some words of advice to help you through Capstone. However, make no mistake, it will push you, make life hard for the time being, and become so overwhelming at times, you will wonder if it will ever end. Anyways, here is my advice to you to hopefully make your journey a little easier: Time You only have so much time for Capstone. For my partner and I, the 13 weeks of the summer semester was really about 8 once we got start after the initial client meeting. Do everything you can... Continue reading

I literally cannot believe graduation is just in 13 days! Which means Capstone is officially over in 11 days for my partner and I. I'm happy to report that we have finally completed primary interviews! This rounds out the grand total at 17. This week was exhausting, but it was imperative for our project. Now it's crunch time to get everything analyzed. The good news? We already have a pretty solid draft of our final presentation. With it being on the calendar for August 2nd, we'll blink and it'll be here tomorrow! The most important thing I have to stress... Continue reading

Just as the tile states, I found myself really frustrated this week. We have so many things left to do, but it feels like we do not have enough time. Neither I or Margi want to push back our final presentation until after graduation, but we still want the presentation/report to be in top shape. After already pushing it back a week from what was originally in our charter, I still feel behind because we are STILL doing primary research. To no fault of our own because there are many parties involved, I still wish that they were complete. On... Continue reading

This past week flew by! With the combination of the holiday, our contact being on vacation, and me traveling out of town unexpectedly, I feel like I haven't accomplished much. The crazy thing is, that we have! We've done some primary interviews, one of which required us to travel to practically Dayton at the end of last week. I'm happy to report that they are going really well. I am however, disappointed in myself because I was not productive to the extent I wanted it to be. It's hard to juggle Capstone, another class, and the job hunt! I knew... Continue reading

Where to even start...this week was full of client interviews and a half-day SIT session! I was nervous at first to present the techniques to our client. I could sense a lot of the recruiters didn't know what to expect, or if they would be good at SIT. I'm proud to say they were! We spent the entire four hours on just one technique..that being division. What surprised me the most was just learning more about their process and how much really goes into a search. It's astonishing! We had a really good attendance turnout, 14 people! One of which... Continue reading

Hard to believe at the end of this week it will be July! With only five weeks remaining, we are really down to the wire. I feel like we will not have enough time to conduct and analyze our interviews. After reading several of my classmates posts, I feel really behind. One thing that eases the worry is telling myself, each project is different and has different goals. Although we have tried taking on the role of scheduling the client interviews, our client felt more comfortable doing it themselves. My hope is to get some conducted and deliver the insights... I cannot deny, the infamous song popped in my head and thus my title for this week's post was created. Over the last two weeks, my partner and I have been in our client's office quite a bit, 5 times to be exact. It's nice to know that the staff is welcoming, and we have become a friendly face, rather than two UC students who just poke around from time to time. We've made significant progress on analyzing the Gilman's current clients in order to further support our recommendations. Next up, interviews! As I've mentioned before, there are multiple parties... I am feeling really good about this week. We attended a staff meeting Thursday morning and it provided great insights to our client and the interaction between all of the recruiters. I was a bit surprised, but in a pleasant way. We finally received the client list that we had been asking for a few weeks. The reason I think it took so long was because we really hadn't built up the trust with the client to the point where they felt comfortable giving us something so 'sacred' so to speak. Of course, neither my partner or I would ever... Continue reading

Being that is it week 5, I feel like Margi and I have accomplished a lot for the project. We still have a lot more to do and that is where my feelings of uneasiness are starting to set in. There's still so much left to be accomplished, I am nervous to get it all complete. Granted, there are lots of moving parts and people involved in order to coordinate, schedule, and execute everything. To better understand the company culture of our client, we are going to start sitting in on staff meetings. I'm really excited because it will become... Continue reading

This past week went well. My partner and I are getting in the rhythm of meeting at least twice a week. Next week starts the first of our biweekly check-ins with our client. I'm a bit nervous, because we have done a lot of research, but I am finding it a hard to formulate a summary to 'present' to the client. She seems very open and understanding, but I want the expectation of this project to remain high. There is more secondary research to be completed, but I feel as though we're on halt until we can get a feel... Continue reading

This past Friday morning, my partner and I had our initial client meeting. I didn't really know what to expect, but was hoping it would turn out well. We have spent the last week doing some research based off the industry space our client is in and some of the services they hope to start offering. I'm happy to say the meeting went well and I'm glad to have a clear direction for proceeding with the project. The task now is to stay on track accomplishing all of the milestones we set for ourselves to meet. As we are finalizing... Continue reading

Finally! Capstone has begun. I'm not really sure how I feel about the process just yet. I've heard from fellow classmates some things to expect, but you can never know for yourself until you're actually doing it. After receiving the field book in Monday night's class, I said to myself "things just got real." Followed by 3 days of eagerness and anticipation, the email from Drew giving us our client assignment came and Capstone is officially underway. I'm excited to dive in and embark on this final journey of the MS program. Continue reading
