This week is one of the most important weeks of the Capstone. In reality though, every week is the most important! All the pieces of information and insights I've gathered over the semester come together for two deliverables: the presentation and the final report. I'm feeling really good about the information I've gathered and now it's just a matter of giving the Cincinnati Curling Club all of this information and actionable next steps for them to take. I'm meeting with my client for lunch this week just to touch base and give him a preview before meeting with the board.... Continue reading

This past week I was able to attend one of my client's (Cincinnati Curling Club) spring league nights. It was great to able to meet in-person and build some excitement around the final presentation and report. They had about 25 or so individuals show up for the league. It definitely put a lot of the findings from the qualitative interviews into perspective and sparked some additional recommendations. Their facility, Sports Plus, really puts their club in a tough position. They weren't able to actually get on the ice until 30 minutes after their assigned time due to the ice conditions... This past week has been a productive one. I had a meeting with Drew and received some clarification on the deliverables for my client and the steps my client needs to be able to take coming out of my presentation. I have some work ahead of me but I feel like I have a good sense of the direction I need to take the work. Now I’m in report writing mode. I’m a little nervous just about getting everything done and making sure that I’m providing valuable insights to my client. It has a been a little tough from a... Continue reading

This week I'm trying to get the last few responses for my quantitative study to get a larger sample size as well as developing the brand and communication strategies. I'm continuing to knock out pieces of the final report and want to make sure I continue to check sections off the list since due dates are quickly approaching! I'm looking forward to my second project review today so I can run some of my ideas by Professor Boyd and confirm that I'm on the right track. I'm a little nervous about getting everything done but excited at the same time.... Continue reading

This past week has been a little hectic at work so it has been tough staying focused and blocking out time for my project. I'm excited that Spring Break is this week so I can catch up on report writing and getting everything together from my quantitative phase of my project. I'm still on track with my timeline, but I'm definitely feeling the pressure to start wrapping everything up and get ready to present everything to the client. The one area that I need to pay close attention to is that my client(s) don't have a marketing background so it's... Continue reading

Busy week ahead! Right now I’m in the process of getting my quantitative study together to understand perceptions and importance of curling. I’m a little nervous about getting a representative sample size but I’m really excited to get some numbers behind the work I’ve been doing. I haven't worked very much in Qualtrics, but I'm excited to learn. I had a great session with Drew just make sure I was thinking about the attributive value map and the quant questionnaire in the right way this past week. I’ve been struggling with identifying what my category or competitive set is, so... Continue reading

Last week was a huge week for American Curling. The U.S. team won their first Olympic gold medal in curling! This presents an enormous opportunity for my client, the Cincinnati Curling Club, to capitalize on the excitement and interest around the sport. This past week I was able to conduct an Attribute Value Mapping workshop with the Cincinnati Curling Club and Professor Boyd which went very well. My client brought a couple of his board members, and I think it got them thinking about the project in a different way and allowed them to see the value of this project.... Continue reading

This week I'm feeling like everything is falling into place. I finished up all my analysis of my interviews, and I'm in the process of scheduling my Attribute Value Mapping Workshop. It's nice to be able to start checking things off the list, but I'm still a little nervous about continuing to stay on my timeline. This spring my schedule feels like I have a million different things going on and I'm starting an online course as well, so time management is going to be the key for me over the next couple of weeks. One area that I'm having... Continue reading

This last week I had a chance to meet with my client in-person over lunch and also conduct a lot of interviews with Cincinnati Curling Club members and board personnel. It has really helped me gain a deeper understanding of the club and the benefit it provides it members. It was really interesting to hear some of the differences between those who are on the board and those who are members of the club. I got to talk to someone who has been a member of multiple curling clubs, so it was a really insightful. This week, I’m looking forward... Continue reading

This past week has been a productive one. I was able to get clarification on a lot of areas of my project from my client, and I’m feeling pretty good about the plan I have in place. Now it is just a matter of going out and executing my plan and holding myself accountable to making significant progress each week. I have an additional class (Data Visualizations) added to my schedule for the second half of the semester, so I need make sure I stay ahead and prioritize my weeks accordingly. I’m starting to feel pulled in a lot of... Continue reading

This week has been a bit of a challenge. I have been out with the flu, and it has set me back and hasn’t allowed me to get as much done as I would have liked this week. My client and I were not able to touch base during our weekly status meeting due to conflicts. Since the Cincinnati Curling Club isn’t my client’s full-time job and I’m working full-time as well, it has become very clear that I need to hold myself accountable when it comes to frequent client communication and getting both of us to strictly hold time... It is hard to believe that I’m in the final stretch of the MS-Marketing Program at UC. Being a part-time student while working full-time has helped me learn so much about time management and prioritization. I’m very excited to apply all that I’ve learned during my time at UC as well as what I have learned in the workforce. This semester, I will be working with the Cincinnati Curling Club. I have never curled before, so I’m really excited to learn a new sport! I had a great first meeting with Brody White, who is one of the club board... Continue reading
