Recipe books seem to be getting fancier and fancier, showing you how to make all these wonderful-sounding but expensive and time-consuming dishes that no-one has the ingredients for and that you would only do for a special occasion. I have decided to create this blog to show some basic recipes... Continue reading

As my mobile phone contract is almost at an end I decided I should look around for a new contract and handset. My fiancée is on O2 which made the choice of network fairly simple, as I could get free... Continue reading

Good luck with it Aaron. The last time I sent mine for repair I managed to get the problem fixed by writing down a long list of the problems on the repair note (the one that the store entered on the note was woefully unspecific). If you try the same you may have more luck with the repair process.

I have decided to use this blog to write about the Ubuntu operating system, and various other Libre Software projects that surround it. I have used Ubuntu on-and-off for the past few years, but since 10.04 LTS it has become much more usable and more attractive to use. There are definite influences from Mac OS X in this version, and I believe it has helped to make the system more attractive and usable. In particular, the default brown theme that had always put me off Ubuntu has been changed to a dark theme with a purple desktop, making the system... Continue reading

Some of the older netbooks on the market, such as Asus' Eee PC, use smaller SSD drives instead of a regular notebook disk drive. These have benefits such as resilience if the laptop is dropped, and can sometimes be faster... Continue reading

I am hoping to write up a full summary of our holiday in Turkey over the next week or so and post it to &c. for everyone to read. It was an amazing holiday, and I think it would be nice to have a decent write-up of it and include a few things that I missed in the daily posts. Continue reading

The sun has come out in full force for our last day. Lizzy did a paraglide jump so Hannah, Emma and I walked down to the beach to meet her when she landed. After that we popped into a couple of the shops then headed back to the hotel to finish packing. Our cases are in the storage shed now, and we are sitting in the bar waiting for the bus to take us to the airport. We leave the hotel around 1800 local time (1600 London time) and the flight takes off at 2220 so there will be quite... Continue reading

The rain stayed away for the afternoon, so we stayed by the pool for a little longer then went to our room to chill out and read our books. Afterwards we went for lunch and back to our room to get ready for a foam party with Lizzy and Hannah. We are currently at the hotel bar having a few warm-up drinks before we head into Olu Deniz town for the party. Continue reading

The rain stopped just before lunchtime so we headed to the restaurant. The food was okay, but some of it was a little odd and there was a lot of seafood that I didn't fancy. We ate then changed for a card game and a dip in the pool. The water was cold from the rain but it felt nice once we were in. After a swim we finished the card game and are now lying on the sunbeds by the pool. It has been mostly sunny this afternoon but has just gone grey again, and it looks like there... Continue reading

We woke up early and got some breakfast from the restaurant, then as we finished eating it started to rain. We headed to the bar just as it started to come down heavier, and now we're sheltered in the corner waiting for it to stop. There have been a few claps of thunder but it's not as bad as the other day. Continue reading

We had another quiet day today as the weather hasn't been as great as the past few days. It is cloudy at the moment, and there have been a few spots of rain. This afternoon we had a dip in the pool and then went to the sauna, which felt amazing. This afternoon we will have dinner and then get a few drinks from the bar, enjoying the remainder of the sunshine and the warm, calm evening. The weather had cleared up now so it should be nice in the open bar. And as a correction to yesterday's post, it... Continue reading

A short update today as it has been a quiet one. We woke up late and spent the morning by the pool, then went to the Blue Lagoon around 1430 local time. It was nice there, but it wasn't as good as the brochures made it out to be. After a swim and a read of my book we came back to the resort for a quick swim, then changed to have our photos taken by Tweetie the resort photographer. Dinner next, then into town for a wander around the shops. After that it was back to the hotel bar... Continue reading

We had booked to go on the 12 Islands cruise today, where you sail along the coast stopping at 12 of the islands along the way. When we got to the booking shop (Bloody Gorgeous in Olu Deniz) we were told the sea was too rough and we needed to get a bus to a bay further up. We all got in and the bus took us up the mountain and down the other side to a small beach with a few piers. The guide told us to follow him, and he headed away from the piers to a small... The rain cleared up after about an hour so we decided to take the opportunity whilst it was dry to visit the market in Fethiye. It's a crazy place; the vendors will offer you a very high price for their goods and then you need to haggle as hard as possible to get a reasonable offer. One vendor wanted 100 Turkish Lira for a couple of purses (roughly £50) and it got to the point that as we walked away he was running after us offering 35TL. After a while it got tedious so we headed back to the main... Continue reading

The thunderstorm is right above us now, with plenty of rain and lightning. Our plan to hit the market looks like it might be put on hold for now at least. We are sitting at the bar watching it hit, and the stone floor has become incredibly slippery. The rain is so hard we can cardly hear each other talking. Continue reading

The pool here is beautiful, it is nice and cool which is great when you need a break from the sun. We got roped into a poolside game earlier then had a lovely lunch in the shade. Going for a Turkish massage later which will apparently help us get a more even tan. Spend most of the morning lounging in the sun. Continue reading
