Yes it is true. There is a recording of Mr Whishaw's Hamlet at the Old Vic and I'm going to see it. I can hardly believe it but at the end of the month I'm booked to see the recording, made in July 2004, at the V&A theatre archive in... Continue »

SciFi Wire knows how to pander to my lowest common denominator. Take the nerd factor of Buck Rogers in the 24th Century, the nostalgia factor of my 80s upbringing, my weakness for women in uniform, and you have The Perfect Distraction: "Sci-fi has always promised us a future filled with jetpacks, lightsabers and, most importantly, women in black leather catsuits. (Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow in Iron Man 2 being the sexiest recent example.) Sadly, in real life—except for Comic-Con—it continues to be pretty rare." via scifiwire.com Continue »

Change is something to be embraced, not rejected. Take change out of your life, and you’re effectively dead. This is just one of the thoughts that ran through my mind after reading the unfounded complaints by some Typepad users about the service’s new interface. Typepad has always been the lead... This one is most definitely off-topic, but you might find it interesting. Last Sunday, I broke down and bought a non-3G iPad. I just was too damn curious. Walked into the Apple Store, played with it for 5 minutes, gave them my credit card, and walked out 15 minutes later. Brought it home, set it up, downloaded some interesting stuff, and had a blast. Big geek fun. I then went off to work for the week, and left it home. And that's when things got interesting ... Some Context I've been married for almost 25 years, and have three kids, the youngest of which is 14. We have always had a lot of tech in the house. A lot. As I think about it now, we've got a fleet of 6 PC desktops of various vintages and three Windows laptops -- two of them that actually work well. On the Apple side, we've got an iMac and two MacBook Airs of different vintages. We just updated the family NAS server to the most recent Iomega device. We use Verizon FIOS 20Mb service and can keep it busy. Add in 3 printers, three separate wireless domains to cover the house, a... Continue »

Haven't seen a good popcorn movie since Alice in Wonderland (well I liked it, I'm sorry but I did) and after watching Iron Man on Sky I got quite excited about seeing the sequel. So Monday afternoon I found myself in the slightly cheaper seats at the big screen Odeon in Leicester Square. So was it worth the excitement and £14? Well there is nothing new. The super hero formula of first film establishing, second film wobbling but making good is not new (third film I confidently predict will be the bigger, badder, baddie and a slightly more learned Iron... Today Google introduced some changes to how it presents you with search results. If you are a blogger, you will be especially interested in the option to select NEWS and BLOGS. (Click Image to Enlarge) What this means for those of us that have invested hundreds or even thousands or hours into our blogs is that we now have the opportunity to rise above the noise - advertised search, mega-sites, etc. The objective from Google's standpoint is clearly to present search results that are current, and therefore relevant - and that means blogs will begin to capture a more prominent...
