(AP Photo/Jim Mone) With Big Papi leading the way with 2 home runs and 6 RBI's, the Red Sox beat the Twins 12-5 tonight. It wasn't all roses for Boston this evening, but there was much to be excited about (including getting to watch David Ortiz absolutely crushing baseballs). The... Continue reading

And just like that, all the momentum the Sox should have had after Lester's outing has been squelched. Buchholz wasn't great today, but he was certainly good enough. 8 IP 6 hits 3 BB 4 K's Prior to this season, you'd take that outing every time out from Clay. This... Continue reading

AP Photo/Michael Dwyer Jon Lester must watch Mad Men. He took the mound tonight for a team that had lost 6 of 7. Doubront is crumbling. The closers are on the DL. Fans are already losing faith. Clay Buchholz is being scrutinized for having a shiny arm. CBH is single-handedly... Continue reading

The Sox are down 7-0 through 7. Doubront got rocked. The bats haven't been able to pose much of any threat. If they somehow manage to come back and take this game, or even make it competitive, I'll apologize to you in the morning. But I don't think Avery Bradley... Continue reading

Can I go home now? (AP Photo/Michael Dwyer) How bad are the Houston Astros, you ask? They made Ryan Dempster look like Clay Buchholz tonight as Boston cruised to an easy 7-3 victory. The Red Sox had no trouble trouble at the plate or on the mound tonight. Their 5... Continue reading

(AP Photo/Michael Dwyer) I started writing some nonsense about how the Sox 4-3 victory over the Royals this afternoon was symbolic of the city of Boston in the wake of the Marathon tragedy. 'Never give up' and all that. But America's pastime is meant to be a reprieve from all... Continue reading

Sports Illustrated's Andy Gray (@si_vault) is tweeting all Boston-themed photos for the day. And he's bringing the heat, including this one here: an ariel view of Ted William's perfect swing. (AP Photo/Michael Dwyer) If you love pitching, the Sox and Rays put on a clinic this afternoon in Boston's 2-1 victory in the bottom of the 10th. 11 pitchers took the mound and virtually all but one (we'll get to that in a minute) were on fire, lead by starters... Continue reading

Yes - you get dinged for leaving the man on base, but the team does not.
Disclosure: I didn't get to watch this afternoon's game. I was taking in Opening Day at Frontier Field. That's why this recap is so late, and un-insightful. Apologies. Final score: 5-0 (and it doesn't seem like it was even that close). Scrolling through today's box score reveals one of two... Continue reading

It is for "left on base" -- but they tally it funny there. Team LOB totals should only be for players left on the base when the third out of an inning occurs. Individual LOB totals are for any time a batter leaves a man on base. Team LOB shouldn't be the total of all the player's LOB -- which is what they seem to be doing there.

(AP Photo/The Canadian Press, Nathan Denette) The Red Sox beat Toronto 6-4 -- blah blah blah -- we'll get to that in a moment. The big story here is that everybody's favorite Jose Iglesias got hit with a Josh Johnson fastball in the arm and had to leave the game.... Continue reading

"ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?" Not particularly, no. Thanks to an old girlfriend who played soccer through college, I've seen enough of the sport to know that I have no interest in it. I don't follow it in any capacity. I know how the game works on the field, but I'm... Continue reading
