Good for you. I've had a productive August, myself, in fictiony terms. Maybe there's something in the air. Tonight. Sang Phil Collins.
on a long run, on a long run
I've had this idea for a one-shot comic kicking around my head for close to a year. Until yesterday, I hadn't done anything with it. Yesterday, I wrote out a page-by-page breakdown for the story*. Today, I wrote the first five pages, and stopped when I ran out of gas a few hours later. I'll pic...
Just once I want to get a message carried by Raven. And not a stabby Baltimore Raven, mind you, but a creepy Poe Raven.
Introducing As Seen on Tabletop.
Every day, I get emails, messages on Twitter, and Ravens from people who have played a game because we played it on Tabletop. The stories and pictures are super awesome, and I want to share them with the world. So I set up a Tumblr called As Seen On Tabletop for viewers to share your stories an...
You've said many times that the role-playing aspect of D&D is more important to you than the math and stats and stuff, so personally I would expect you to get more into the story of Gloom than the mechanics. You're of the opinion that the fun of the game is more important, and nowhere is this more important than in a show the purpose of which is to make games *look* fun for viewers who perhaps aren't into tabletop gaming at all or who have fallen away from it in the age of computers and consoles. I think your approach is perfect. And frankly, I think you could even use 'illegal' moves to your advantage on the show: dedicate a segment (or a companion video) to technical mistakes...
Amber Benson, Meghan Camarena, and Michelle Boyd join me for GLOOM on #Tabletop
This week's new episode of Tabletop is online for your happy funtime enjoyment: If the embed isn't working, or you want to see this in glorious SUPER MEGA HD, I've got you covered, because I love you. A few notes: * We have no control over the ads that run during Tabletop, so it's likely that y...
I miss him! And all you guys. :-( But I'll be living closer soon. And maybe even mobile, we'll see. Give Nemo a hug for me.
The Ending of the Beginning: Diagnosis
It has been a long time coming. First, there was the conference with Nemo's teacher in November that confirmed that she was seeing the same types of issues that I had been seeing, and that he'd benefit from being evaluated for services to treat those issues. We saw our pediatrician in Novemb...
It's the barely concealed joy with which you say that it's bullshit that makes me suspect that it is not, in fact, bullshit. Or at least, that it's *pleasant* bullshit. :-)
this is bullshit
Because I have a feeling at least one person reading this blog will want to use this image at some point in the future, to express this sentiment. An uncomfortably long hug to Tumblr-er Alive Like Me for making this.

Please tell me you and Wallace Shawn got up to some "Wesley meets the Nagus" improv for everyone's amusement.
Eureka: This One Time At Space Camp
In a few hours, I will be picked up and taken to the set for my last day on Eureka. Though I've known this day was coming for a couple of weeks, and I've been trying to prepare myself for it, I'm not ready. I don't want this to be over. I don't want to say goodbye to my friends. Monday, we had o...
Awesome
Wordless Wednesday: Alien Boy
you get a cinematic standing slow clap for that one.
on the delivery of technobabble
I was in three scenes yesterday, one of which contained a massive amount of technobabble. For those who don't know what that is: on a sci-fi show, technobabble is what we call pseudoscientific dialog like "I'll have to run a level four diagnostic on the antimatter inversion matrix to be sure." I...
"No, I'm never gonna do it without the fez on. Oh, no. That's what I am, please understand. I wanna be your holy man."
I wear a fez now. Fezzes are cool.
One of my favorite things on JoCoCruiseCrazy was our Informal Moustache Formal, organized by the (now dead to me) Paul F. Not Coming On the Cruise Because I Got a "Job" that "Pays Me" and "Furthers My Career" Tompkins. During the Informal Formal, Kevin Murphy loaned me this most exquisite fez,...
I'm one of the people you inspired to get excited and make things: I put up a little book of fiction on createspace (on demand printing via amazon.com), and you're one of the people it's dedicated to. :-) So, thanks!
the obligatory emerald city comicon post
Now that I'm home from Seattle, I'm right back to editing and rewriting and obsessively perfecting my PAX East keynote, but before I can give that the focus it requires, I need to talk a little bit about this year's Emerald City Comicon. First, the good: The dungeon delve I wrote and ran was rea...
<-- loves it.
Bionicle Ballet
Last night Sunny grabbed one of Little Man's Bionicle creations, threw its arms up over its head, pointed its toes down and said "Look Mommy! The Bionicle is doing a releve and holding it!" I chuckled and promptly posted it as my Facebook status, then went back to looking at porn playing Bejewel...
