Yes, it’s true, we are moving to wordpress and we’re moving today! Hold your horses (not your breath), and cross your fingers that all the name server, DNS mapping and RSS configuration we did in 2006 will get changed smoothly and quickly! If you are subscribed by RSS, there may be some hiccups. Maybe you can check the site directly... Continue reading

One of the best ways to serve your breakfast oatmeal - finished with honey, cream and a tot of scotch. One serving only and only on "special mornings" I picked the Auchentoshan. Mmmm scotch in the morning. Continue reading

Meet Clobby our newest travel companion. Clobby joined us in the Saint John airport in July but had kept a fairly low profile until we arrived at YSJ this morning. So far Clobby seems a little more shy than Travel Bunny, but time will tell. Continue reading

Yes, those are electric lights and I am ashore. Yes, those are electric lights and I am ashore. It had been crazy windy today with threats of more. But a break in the weather right before dark feel and I was rushed from the out house onto the boat and across the river. (bet you never thought you'd be reading... Continue reading

Winds from the south today crashing against the shore meant I spent at least an hour sitting on the rocks mesmerized. There is nothing more soothing to me than big wind and the sound if the surf. Of course, I don't feel quite that way when I have to leave the island and the winds mean riding the river in... Continue reading

After some continued experimenting, and frankly the willingness to throw out an entire batch if I burnt the coffee too badly, I finally produced some decent home-roasted coffee. I mentioned a couple of days ago that we were "out" of coffee. It's not strictly true. I had some green coffee beans squirreled away for just this kind of situation. So... Continue reading

It's a beautiful day. The sun is bright and warm, the sky is blue and clear, the wind is howling and blowing like a "son of a bitch"! The water is slamming up against the island and, as it turns out, over the stern of the boat left a little too close to the tide line. Wind and waves are... Continue reading

It was just a quick cross and then back home, but mid-river each leg I was very happy that was all. I'd show you pictures of that, but I was too busy driving the boat! One hand for you, one for the boat. And when the one for you is on the motor there are zero for the camera! Continue reading

My first cup of coffee made from brands I roasted myself! The green beans were purchased at a small Ethiopian store at the foot odd my street in Toronto, then I slow roasted them on the wood stove, finishing the process in the fire over the coals. It was okay. The aroma was wonderful, but I definitely need a darker... Continue reading

Joining me for my call today were a loon and a crow. Yesterday's coworkers included Charlie the dog and a seal. Neither contributed much to the call but they were great company. Continue reading

Cool day today, which means a fire all day. Perfect for braising that chunk of beef we picked up on my way home to the island. Right in the coals and dinner will have that added smokiness. Now it's all about patience. Continue reading

Some one sent me band-aids. Blister Cushion band-aids. No idea why or from whom... Perhaps a new pair of shoes will arrive soon too. Btw I've used these before and I love them! I just don't know why I got them. Continue reading

Wow, my inlaws came to town and while I was feeling too crappy to see them, and certainly too crappy to go to lunch... They brought me a wonderful little care package with goodies to make me feel better. So sweet & so kind! I'm a lucky sickie! Continue reading

I'm in the process of moving unsweetened.ca from Typepad to Wordpress. Yes, I have caved. In fact, the next blog post you see from unsweetened.ca may just be on wordpress. You shouldn’t notice much of a difference. But check out this boring photo. Notice the last import line? 1415. Importing post Day 1 - On the Road Again... That’s 1415... Continue reading

When Jason agreed to share a recipe as part of the Chefs #LoveCDNBeef recipes featuring Canadian Beef, we had a little back and forth on what cut of beef he would use. “Might do tongue, liver or cheek. What about veal sweet breads? ORRR would you prefer something more mainstream like rib eye?” I responded “screw mainstream! I warned them... Continue reading

You know those times when you meet someone and you feel an instant connection? That’s how it felt when I met Chef Jason Bangerter, the next chef in the Chefs #LoveCDNBeef series. Jason is the Executive Chef at Oliver & Bonacini’s two restaurants at the TIFF Bell Lightbox: O&B Canteen and Luma. I’ve had the luxury of getting to know... Continue reading

Hi Annie, It must be a sad day at Media Profile, as it is here. Michael's insight, influence and spark were very far reaching and must be sorely missed by those who were able to experience it day in and day out. Not to mention his jokes, smiles and infectious laughter. I miss his hugs too. My thoughts are with Leona and the kids though! Wish we could turn back time for them!
