Ah, there's a fair amount of dishevelment among our number this morning. Runny noses, sneezing, coughing, and general incapacitation. Andy has it the worst. I have never, ever, EVER been sick as much as I have this year. Ever. It's... Continue reading

My quilt is finished! I love her. I think she came out so nice. I had her professionally quilted by my friend Sherri at Bumblebee Quilting. She did the quilting and the machine stitching of the binding, and I stitched... Continue reading

Andy worked Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so Meems and I were out and about most of the weekend: children's museum, Crystal Springs garden, farmer's market, a picnic with friends, playground, watering our plants at home (can you believe it? Everything... Continue reading

Playing with Phyllis Mouse and a Calico Critters' cottage. Phyllis is wearing Juniper's boots. Amelia is exactly two and a half. I don't want to forget what this time is like. How she can take Phyllis out of her high... Continue reading

Spent the day with my sister Susie at Edgefield; April 6, 2015. Spring there is green, soft, quiet, a little enchanted, a little haunted, a little empty, certainly lovely. I've been to Edgefield many (wonderful) times in full summer, on... Continue reading

Afternoon at the river, which we had (gloriously) all to ourselves, until Amelia said, "Home!" and put on her own shoes and started walking by herself across the sand back toward the car :: Dark storms and ruby-glowing dogwood trees... Continue reading

Oregon, there are some things you do very, very well, tulips and hazelnut fields being two of them. Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm with friends; March 27, 2015. (About a month earlier than we went last year. And weirdly, I made... Continue reading

Last week, those trees in the photo above were covered in blossoms. Only last week. Already, now, they are spattered in spring green, and growing leaves by the day. Spring is both fast and slow. In Oregon, sometimes spring lasts... Continue reading

Oh, apple trees! My favorite of the flowering trees. So humble and sweet and pretty. And their scent. My gosh, I love them. I made a pillow and a pizza and more dresses. Thank you so much for all of... Continue reading

We got some rainy, cold, wet, blustery, dark weather this past weekend. Finally, our winter arrived. As did yet another cold for me. I have been sick about three times so far this winter. More than I can ever remember.... Continue reading

We stumbled upon this incredible tree a couple of weekends ago, right at golden hour. Isn't it just breathtaking? All of these pictures are from the same tree, over about a fifteen minute period, just after dinner. Beautiful tree. Continue reading

Although the temperature has been getting into the seventies regularly, you can tell it's still late wintertime in the woods. There's a silver haze on the green. It feels quiet, and a little empty, and a little chilly in the... Continue reading

Andy was on staycation last week and it was just awesome. The weather was EPIC. In the sixties and seventies and nary a cloud. Really, one of the greatest weeks ever (aside from the vague sense of unease because it... Continue reading

She doesn't walk through the woods as much as careen. Chattering and singing, running, spinning, flinging rocks into the water. She lies down in the middle of the trail. A woman walks by and says, "She's grounding! I get it."... Continue reading

I love her. She is such a gentle soul. Growing up into a beautiful young lady. (And Mimi rolls up all of her sleeves and pants legs, too. It's hilarious.)

Amelia and I had a rare Saturday to ourselves. I honestly can't even remember the last time Andy worked on Saturday, but it will be a regular thing now, as his schedule is slightly rearranged. I was worried we wouldn't... Continue reading

Have you ever done the quilt-as-you-go technique? I never had. I got this book the other day and decided to try it. I think it came out pretty cute. I used the 2" strips I had left over from Amelia's... Continue reading

Sunny, quiet days. Playing, working, cooking, watching the man fix the house, which is apparently falling apart all around us. Ugh. Stucco repairs, rotted sills. Blossoms abounding. Sunlight through soap-sketched windows. Sleeping puppers. French braids. Playing the drums on my... Continue reading

I'm with you on all, every single thing, of the above. I was actually holding my breath scrolling through these pictures to the bottom thinking, "Oh, please tell me this was local, some magical secret glade somewhere local, etc., etc." But NO. It's international, even. SIGH. I'm screwed. If it's any consolation it took me absolutely forever -- years -- to learn to knit, and it was hard for me to learn: However, if you can stick with it (I can help you anytime!), it is well worth it to learn. I wrote that post five years ago, and I should write another one, about what it's meant to me in the last five years. Even more than before. And that's a lot. xoxo, a
