I guess her name is Romola Garai. But to me, she will always be "big face." My sister and I enjoy trashing her performances because we are mean and have low self esteem.
Not a fan
I'm breaking my blog silence to post unflattering pictures from the recent Masterpiece Classic rendition of Emma. That's right, I'm a jerk. Go back to Cuba where you belong, big face.
Glad I'm not the last one to see it, too! So funny, Jenna really cracks me up. And I think it's the only time I've ever actually enjoyed watching a Baldwin on screen.
Friday's Hero
Oh, snap. A Hero post, and it's not even Friday. There's so much to say about this person, I don't know where to start. We all knew a few gals just like this in Drama club, right? Her videos are awesome. I sort of can't stop watching them, especially the ones where she does a bunch of fore...
Max has chilled on the Pokemon a little. Now he's full-force Lego which would be great if those sets weren't so darn overpriced.
And what about Bakugan??? Don't even get me started...
Questions + Answers, Part 3
How did you decide on what type of shop? (i.e. things to sell?) There's a short and long answer to the question, but I'm gonna try to keep this brief. When I started blogging in 2006 I sometimes posted photos here and on flickr of cute cupcake decorations I purchased at a local cake and candy h...
Thanks so much for the mention! Bake It Pretty loves you, too! :)

Oh, thanks for the recommendation! I just went to the Trade Secrets while we were at the mall, totally on a whim. But I must say, for $20 bucks she did and excellent job.
a home for the fleas
I told the stylist I wanted to look like Scout, from To Kill a Mockingbird, and, personally speaking, I think she hit the nail on the head. My hair had gotten really, really long and I was just ready for a change. After a few weeks of systematically shearing off an inch here and there myself...
I just netflixed that one, too! I missed it when it was on PBS. I'm excited to watch it.
Lost In Austen
I spotted this mini series on Netflix a few weeks ago. It was in my "if you like this, then you should try this" suggestion box. I'd never heard of it, but just going by the synopsis I thought it sounded really dumb. So dumb, in fact, that It might be kind of funny. So I threw it in the ol...
Oh, I hear you! I've butchered my own hair far more times than I'd care to admit! :)

You're totally right, when it's straightened like this it's more Katie than Scout. If I let it air dry, it's much shorter...I'll have to take some more pictures soon...

Those strawberry pops are absolutely picture-perfect! Bravo!!
And thanks so much for mentioning the Bake It Pretty Shop :)

Beautiful chairs....
Last Thanksgiving we had some family over and I needed to get some additional chairs and a card table to accommodate....classy, I know. Anyways, I finally got around to recovering them.... This was a pretty simple job....the black vinyl seat was easily unscrewed and I just stapled the fab...
I don't know, actually! It is a small bush/shrub and the flower smell very sweet.
Our Side of the Mountain
I've taken to walking up and down our street these last few weeks. Mainly because it's so dreamy, but also because the steep inclines make even an average pace feel like a major workout. (A few more months of this and I will be sporting buns-o-steel.) There's a little, brown r...
Aw, thanks for asking! Nigel is doing great! I try to get cute pictures of him but the whole nocturnal-thing makes it tough. Waking him up in the daytime is NEVER a good idea - he can be one grumpy, little hedgie!
With a Grecian Feeling
So, I was chatting with David Sedaris last week.* About Greek Easter, spanakopita, and what-not. I was sad to miss the celebration with my family this year. We couldn't drive down last weekend, because we are driving down this weekend to attend my cousins wedding. A Greek wedding. (You know...
Yes! I bought it downtown but I can't remember the name of the shop....
It was with the hippie, one-size-fits-all dresses, but I thought it had a pretty formal look to it!

I almost chickened out at the last minute :) Glad I didn't though - it was
so cool.

I just saw an ad in the Mountain Express for the ENO single nest hammocks on sale for $29! It's at a shop called "Frugal Backpacker" in Arden.
Hanging Out
(yes, that's the best post title I could come up with.) Last Saturday we visited the Earth Day festival in downtown Asheville. Amidst the music food, and vendors I happened upon these amazing, portable hammocks made by a local company; Eagles Nest Outfitters (ENO.) I have been seriously wan...
Lord no, not gone yet - not even *listed* yet. I'm just terribly, terribly
behind (as usual.) They will be in the shop this week I SWEAR! :)
Fooled
Thought I better do a post before everyone thinks I've disappeared to the land of glowing mushrooms. Alas, that is not the case. I am, as Max would say, "WORKING. That's all you do is work." Not true , but working and schooling at home means that we are all up in eachother's business 24 h...
Oh yes. Rolling silverware was the most mind-numbing task. I always dreaded it!
Eighty Six
Sunday was like a dream. (I'm choosing to ignore the weather forecast, which is predicting snow for this Tuesday.) We had a nice, little lunch on the back porch, and then the boys played Frisbee while I puttered around the front flower bed, trimming old lavender stalks and digging around to ...
Someone told me once that that pattern is called "Boutonniere" (I think.) I love it, it's my favorite! I have lots of plates, some saucers and teacups, some tiny side bowls that I adore.

Sacrilege!
Two kinds of sunshine
The sun came out at last yesterday, in the late afternoon. I was so happy I snapped a few picture of the daffodils in the front yard. It is strange renting a house and watching the plants and flowers come up for the first time. So surprising and fun, and the owners sure have planted some lo...
Thanks so much for the recipe, is sounds insanely good. Can't wait to try
it out!
Wise Owls Drink Green Smoothies
This smoothie is about as green (in color) as they get. Made with fresh pineapple, spinach, apple cider, orange juice, ice, and spirulina (yes, that's algae and no, you can't taste is at all.) I first read about the green smoothie phenomenon here, and it literally changed our lives, especia...
I love that photo! I will never look that adorable, but I really do love
her haircut - too perfect.
Movies that make me want to cut my hair and also sometimes be more French
La Femme Nikita. An all-time-favorite of mine, definitely in my top 25, (maybe even top-ten.) If you have Netflix, it's on the instant view menu at the moment. Just a sensational movie, and Anne Parillaud is one of the only actresses I've ever seen that can truly pull of adorable and bad-as...
Thanks for the heads up! I fixed the link. That's what I get for trying to
put posts together so late at night ;)

I always thought I was spacing mine too far apart...thanks for the tip!
A Case for the Biscuit
I think everyone should make their own biscuits. It's just something I feel very strongly about. They are suitable anytime of day, you can fill them with almost anything, and everyone loves them. They just make you feel good inside; the perfect comfort food. So simple to make, you only need...
Not that much work, just lots of little steps, especially if you make your
own filling (I recommend using store-bought lemon curd or jam! Saves a lot
of time!)
