Yes, really! Must we prevent consumers from using their own product safety database in order to get you relief? Must we exempt day-care centers from crib safety requirements (even state and local ones) to get you relief? Must we let lead back into children's products not necessarily produced by small businesses? Or let phthalates back into childrens' products through the back door? Or give the CPSC an overly-broad authority to exempt tracking labels? H.R. 1939 does all these things, too, and I think that's too high a price.
The better thing to do would be to take that part of Section 4 that actually relates to your issue and pass that as a stand-alone bill -- or, simply, to find a better solution that takes into account that your paint suppliers are likely already getting their paint tested. But Republicans won't do that, because then it can't be the vehicle with which they give out more welfare to large corporations.
