Joey may not have smoked, but was certainly subjected to much second hand smoke in the clubs he played and from people he hung out with. At the time I wrote this, I didn't know that Joe Strummer had an undiagnosed heart birth defect that was the cause of his early death. However, he smoked (though I believe he gave it up when he had kids) and like many musicians playing clubs, was subjected to a lot of second hand smoke. It's our environments (diet and cigarette smoke) clashing with our genetic weaknesses that cause disease. But whatever the case, I mourn the early death of both men, who are still near and dear to my heart.

TypePad HTML Email Doggril, NORAD never contacted me about this post. If they had, I would have been happy to do any “corrections” if it was needed. But yes, you are right, the answering of the phones is done on a volunteer basis. Michelle Obama even helped out this year. That being said, we’re still paying for the phones, the electricity, the water in the bathrooms, the heat in the buildings, etc. I LOVE that the folks at NORAD do this on their day off. But to say it’s entirely free, isn’t accurate. Either way, who cares? It’s a fun service and good publicity for the folks at NORAD.

TypePad HTML Email Maureen, there wasn’t a “salt” shaker when I was using it back in 2008-9. I also stopped using it after four months as I found it hard to fit into my lifestyle as I kept forgetting to use it. I still think there’s something to it as it did make me feel less hungry. But it wasn’t a good fit for me.
