Space exploration: Goodbye to Spirit, one plucky little rover
To paraphrase Douglas Adams and his "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy": So long, Spirit, and thanks for all the data. JPL's Spirit rover landed on Mars in January 2004. As Times staff writer Amina Khan noted Tuesday: Along with its twin rover Opportunity, which landed on the opposite side of ...

Rare earth elements, used in technologies including wind turbines, electric vehicles and touch screens, are in high demand in the U.S. But China, the primary producer, is steadily scaling back its exports of rare earths. Now the Molycorp mine in Mountain Pass, Calif. -- the only co...
So Ray Spencer,
Feeling a little unearthed this morning, what are the "Heavy Rare Earth" minerals - I haven't made it that far in geology - I just dig little holes and eat the stuck

If you're a fan of dog shows, you might know the middle of February not for the holiday it contains, but for the famous show that takes place. We're speaking, of course, of the Westminster Kennel Club dog show, which takes place at New York City's Madison Square Garden every year about this ti...

Goldman Sachs cuts U.S. investors out of Facebook deal
Goldman Sachs has decided to block U.S. investors from getting in on its big investment in Facebook. The decision comes after a wave of media attention when Goldman invested $450 million in Facebook, a privately held company, as reported by our sister blog Money & Company. Excluding American i...
Not meaning to sound above it all, I am compelled to state:
People who harm animals and other humans are and will go to hell.
now end this discussion as it ranks up there with Octomom, the disgrace of Jackson's doctor, M. Jackson inclusive of the abusiveness in THAT family.
When is everybody going to understand desenistiving is the criminal offense for the lack of want in people doing the right thing - protecting that which can not protect itself
Michael Vick deserves a dog. Or does he?
Columnist Sandy Banks writes that pro football player and convicted animal abuser Michael Vick should be allowed to have a dog as a pet. She says Vick "needs a link to tenderness" and "to understand what it means to earn the trust of an animal." Vick recently was allowed to play in the NFL aga...
I strongly agree with Richard and CommonSense. Residents of other countires that wish to become a USA citizen that spend the years going through the gov red tape, truly have the will for the endurance and are not easily defeated. And yet there are those freeloaders coming in on the backs of their unborn child - speaks volumns to the "moral character".
And good for Virigina ! at least there was an attempt of/for proof.
And good for Arizona - they weathered the the feds once before under Goldberg when he refused to follow the day light savings mandate (way back when) yeah, sure the state took the hit in fed gas tax dollars, but its the only state in the Union in which you only have to set your watch once and forget about.
And I would also like to point out, that just because an illegal with federal benefits leaves the state that granted them, the benefits do not cease. . .housing is a different animal and does cease.
Some in GOP worry Arizona-style illegal immigration vote in California would hurt party. Do you agree?
Several Republicans worry that an effort to have California voters consider an illegal immigration measure similar to Arizona's could increase the chasm between the party's candidates and Latino voters. They equated it to 1994's Proposition 187, which would have stopped illegal immigrants from...
