Well,Mr.Wheaton, you can now say you've been on a show that shouldn't have been cancelled. You join a long and industrious list, since all the best shows get cancelled.I'm starting to wonder if networks just cancel shows once they get too good, because it makes the rest of mainstream entertainment look bad or something. Did they say why they were cancelling it?And wasn't Firefly cancelled by The Network Formerly Known AS SciFi?Just tell people you were on a really good how on that network that people loved and it got cancelled and everybody was upset.

I'm so sorry that happened,Wil.I refuse to fly myself, and I have the luxury of being able to do so,since I don't travel often, but when my sister was planning to fly over the holidays,I was upset about the scanning procedures. My sister is 17 and,to be blunt, very attractive, and doesn't realize how much attention she gets from older men.I was very unhappy with the idea of my baby sister being body-scanned or patted down, but fortunately, she went through the regular scanners, not the backscatter ones.I feel like if this is what we have to go through to be safe--and if,before this, people were okay with being made to take off their shoes and belts and hand over their Aquafina and unwrap their Christmas presents--we're so scared of terrorism that our counter-terrorism measures are defeating the purpose;we're so scared,we're sacrificing our dignity.I don't want to use the the-terrorists-have-won cliche, but really,at this point I'd rather take the risk than go through TSA. This is going to sound dumb, but when I saw your Tweet it bothered me for the rest of the day, because I started wondering how your family feels about this and how I'd feel if it happened to someone I cared about. If you were to rally your fanbase and the Internet in general,I'd sure as heck go along with some kind of campaign, because this is ridiculous.

I'm hoping against hope this means you'll be at MegaCon in Orlando.I've been dying to see you there.Florida definitely needs some Wil Wheaton-y goodness.

Yay for self-selecting only the readers who already care enough to pay and therefore limiting one's scope of outreach! Then again, maybe they have to charge for articles because of funding cuts to all areas of the sciences.:-P

Mr.Wheaton,I only discovered you and started following you a little less than a year ago,and I have to say,you just get more and more awesome the longer I do.I'm applying to graduate programs for Library Services and Children's Lit programs now, hoping to be the next fifty-something little old lady with ten-mile-high hair who inspires a future awesome person!;-) Might I just also say,it's especially helpful to see someone so tech-savvy and such an advocate for other media forms of entertainment talk about how important libraries and books are?It doesn't seem to impress others very much when someone like me does it,but when a New Media star does,it makes a point.:-)

@Gtpodcast Actually, having worked in libraries before,I can tell you that they've had their funding cut all over the place due to the recession because our priorities have been elsewhere. The state of Pennsylvania tried to shut down all of Philadelphia's public libraries for a few months to save money--imagine,in the home of free public libraries!Fortunately, citizens from all over the country banded together and wrote the PA legislature, and they saved them. That's what Wil's talking about, not some kind of anti-library campaign. It's the attitude that libraries are growing obsolete that's the threat more than anything else. And librarians now get degrees in what's called Library Sciecnes And Information Services. The last two words there are important.Librarianship is more about information management now, helping people find the information they need in whatever format, regardless of medium. The skills for managing data are what's the main commodity of librarians right now,and since we're moving into an era where information is essentially currency, that's a very valuable skill to have!

Looks like Ryan can cock a single eyebrow with such skill as to make his stepdad proud, and Nolan looks like he's had plenty of practice for his,"whatever"-casual pose.;-)

Honestly, you're my favorite person to follow on Twitter, and my favorite of your tweets, more even than the Wil-Cat/Dog conversations, are when your kids hack your account. And then ten minutes later you tweet an indignant rage tweet.I heart Wheatons.

Great story,Wil,way to turn a negative into a positive! You know how you choose your friends based on what you get from them?I really feel like we get something from a relationship with an animal that we don't get from other humans.I'm at college now and the hardest part, honestly,is being away from my babies(sorry Mom and sis...).I'll be Skyping the family tomorrow to say Happy First Birthday to the kitten we got about a year ago, lol. By the way,two things:Anne really knows how to write an appeal! That really got me.She should write for nonprofits professionally!;-) And I LOVE that you initially named Seamus D0g.I'm kind of Half-Life-crazy and it's so meta to name a dog after a robot named after a dog.

Hey Wil.First thing:props to you for this blog entry and the apology to the guy on Twitter.Too many people don't do the legwork to clarify themselves and then wonder why people think they're jerks.Very classy of you to take these actions, out of respect for your fans and GamerPolitics. I'll also say that while I was sitting and watching everything go down last night,it did seem to me that you were overreacting to the guy's cluelessness(and quite frankly, awkward social skills, but who am I of all people to complain about that?),but instead of writing you off,I kept in mind how hard you work to be a decent guy and encourage others to do the same.I thought of that and then decided,"Maybe there's something going on I don't know about. There's gotta be some context I'm not aware of."And lo and behold, you post this blog entry!I was right, you're not a creepy big-headed celebrity, you're human like the rest of us!(And quite frankly, that's why your fans like you.Maybe you should blow up like this every once in a while so people can better say,"Hey,he's like me!".;-))I think your fans are the type of people who will assume context like that,so you shouldn't have to worry about being voted off the island(and seriously,if you were,it would turn into Lord of the Flies pretty quick). One more thing I'll say:it takes two to have a fight. It looks to me like GamerPolitics just made a social misstep and didn't realize it,but still,on the Internet, both parties have to work to make sure their intention is understood and to not assume offense.I can go on and on about socializing online and how it's fraught with chaos, but that's a whole other rant and I think I've had my piece now.:-)

I love oral storytelling!I don't think I could use this in a storytime at the library(I'm an aspiring children's librarian),heh heh,but I did rock the Oral Interp of Lit circuit back in my high school Debate days!I'd love this kind of contest!
