RULE ONE-ING BIO-REFERENCE LABS (BRLI) MOAT, VALUE AND TRADES
BioReference Laboratories (BRLI) has been capturing the attention of a number of Rule One investors here. Its an interesting case study. BRLI has been a successful company for a long time, growing in excess of 20% a year for 17 years. Here are the Moat and Management numbers from my Toolbox (...
Hi Sam,
When you mention about GURE, I try to figure out myself whether it is a Rule #1 company, what i understand is the company is selling bromine and crude salt. I see the number and it is really good, right now the price is 2x earnings, and 50% below its book value. So I wonder how can the price go down very sharply from the highest $14 in January 2010 to $3 now.
After I've done searching some news about it I found the news about the company was doing some frauds by manipulating its number on the financial statements. I don't know whether it is true or not.
Here is the link to the news:

So that's the reason why a lot of investors dumping the stocks. I just did about 30 mins research, I think you need to see trough again whether the issue is correct or not.
Any comment from Phil or others?

Andri
BAD MACRO MEANS WATCH OUT BELOW
I recently mentioned that I got out because of technical signals and what I call "Bad Macro". Here's what Bad Macro looks like and why it matters: 1. Unemployment officially at 9%. Unofficially at 18%. Unemployed people may vote for more entitlements instead of for a candidate who wants to g...
Hi Ross,
I had bet my money in RIM when it was still $70, luckily I could get out of the market before it fell like a brick (now the price about $20). The lesson is I don't know what RIM will do in the next 10 or 20 years. I know they will sell a tech gadgets but what kind of technology since its competitor Apple, Google, and Microsoft always show new innovation and development in the next next things of gadgets; especially Apple that always innovate the product from Macbook to ipod to iphone and to ipad, what next? I really don't have any idea and it seems like RIM tried to copy Apple on the product. It is really hard to predict what they will do in the next 10 - 20 years. Now, I only look more for a company that I know what they will do/ sell in the next 10 or 20 years.

TRADE IT DOWN OR STOCKPILE IT?
I had a question today that deserves a good answer. I wrote it as a reply but I decided to post it here so you don't miss it. The question was: What are you doing right now with BP as it is crashing with the market? I don't want to say publicly what I'm doing with BP specifically because I res...

WHAT TO DO NOW
My philosophy of investing is pretty simple: Find great businesses and buy them on sale. This philosophy quite specifically does not require that I make market-wide calls. I don't need to know if I'm in a bull market or a bear market to make a decision about owning a business. The key is to k...
Hi Sean,
Are you confidence that the company will grow at 19% pace within the next 10 years? If it really does then it will become 25 billions worth of business, it almost 3 times bigger than Gap market cap which is 8.5 billions right now.
(I use Gap as a comparison because I see that Urban competes with them.)
If you really know the company and confidence with its durable competitive advantage then go ahead.
