Fair question, Scout. The only excuse Tannehill has ever made is having the deep ball issues sort of get in his head when throwing to Mike Wallace. Otherwise, HE has not made excuses. People such as you (I imagine) have, however, been replete with excuses for Tannehill. I believe I outlined several of them: He didn't have any receiver (2012). He didn't have an offensive line (2013). By the way, there are no perfect teams. Quarterbacks deal with bad surrounding casts (did Brady have receivers last year?) all the time. Great quarterbacks raise the level of play of other players. Good quarterbacks overcome. No excuses this year.

Two more things: 1. If anyone posts inappropriate material such as curse words or swastikas or whatever, rather than whine about it here, feel free to email me. I will probably not see your comment. I will see your email. 2. As many of you know, I posted reasons why the Dolphins should use the 3-4 more a couple of days ago. Watch the game Sunday. Watch the D closely. Hahahaha.

I found it. Nineteen comment pages in but I found it. It is gone.

OK fellas, I have to bounce. deity I will look some more. I agree that image (assuming there is one) should not be on my blog.

Benz, I had reservations also. I still kinda do. He's great off the field and in the locker room and with the youngsters so far. We'll see how he plays. That is totally another matter. We'll see.

By the way, Lazor wants to RUN the football. I posted before the Atlanta game how the Dolphins want a new attitude. They don't want to pass on 3rd-and-1. They want to run it and run it well. Lazor told players in a meeting how this was not going to be a finesse team. Obviously, we'll see how WANTING and actually being able to DO work out.

benz, you'll see it with your own eyes whether Tannehill is going to get an extension or not. If he's good, he'll get one. If he has another year like last year or the year before, I expect the Dolphin will at the very least draft a QB and let him and Tannehill compete. I cannot go through every possibility here (or even in my mind).

Daryl, I don't know what the odds of Harbaugh actually coming are. But the odds of Steve Ross making the attempt? 100% The question is can he close the deal?

benz, on Jamar Taylor, he has the potential to be a good corner because he can be physical and he works at it. But he seems to me to be better once he becomes a technician in the position. Here's the problem: You have to play to learn to be a technician. And the coaches have to have patience with you that you're going to make mistakes while you're learning. The Dolphins have other choices. And coaches, wanting to succeed right away, will go with a more expedient choice now at the expense of waiting on a player with a higher ceiling to go through growing pains. I will say Cortland Finnegan has been good for Taylor and for Will Davis. Finnegan has a future as a coach if he wants it.

cocoajoe, I had an NFL source tell me yesterday he thinks if Philbin gets the axe, Lazor stays. I don't know about that as certainty because most coaches want to hire their own guys. It is possible if Philbin gets fired, Ross keeps the assistants tied up to let the next coach interview them and decide if he'll hire them or not. It is not a certainty he stays r goes. It would depend on the next guy and what his ties are.

deity, contrary to popular belief, I am not on the blog 24 hours a day. Indeed, I am rarely on the blog because I have other duties. Since reading your comment, I have gone back through 150 comments and found not one mention of a swastika except for you continually talking about it.

Phins78, I was gung ho and when they did it yesterday I was quite pleased. If you followed me on twitter, you would know this. But here is the fact: They signed a guy who was on the Pats for two days, three days max. So you want me to write an entire blog about a guy who was a Pat for two days? When there are multiple practice squad types out there Miami could have gotten that had much more time with that team? Like it or not, I make the editorial decisions on this blog. And I decided not to paint a portrait of something great being done when something was done late and not as well as it could be.

Well, Mark for someone at "peace" you seem to hash and rehash the same complaints and untruths time and again. Regardless, I will answer: I do not think the interior OL is better and indeed until Pouncey gets back, I think it could be worse than last year's interior OL. I think the OTs are way better. I do not like the LB corps. Two of the three will likely be gone by next year. The team accepts this, I know this, it should not surprise anyone. I am uncertain about the running game. The interior OL thing is part of the problem but I do not think any of Miami's RBs are extra-ordinary. And Ryan Tannehill needs a supporting running game. And I do not have great confidence in some coaching decisions. I think the staff has been upgraded. But in some places it has not been.

NeMo, I've seen things in practice that will excite but cannot be written here or at all until the team shows them because that would tip the opposition and break trust with the team which has opened practice to me and others. Safe to say Lazor knows his system works. It has worked elsewhere, it should work here for the most part. But it is more about talent, as I've written, than about scheme. We'll see how the players respond.

Pretty interesting some comments in here. Anyone want to talk football? I can carve out 30 minutes or so to chat.

Folks, as many of you noted ad nauseum early in the comments, my math was off. I am not good with math to begin with and much less so when I wake up at 4 a.m. to put up a blog post. The math has been corrected. I apologize for the inconvenience.

It's telling that Trusnik starts at MLB. That tells me the Misi shoulder thing is not serious. A serious injury would likely send Dannell Ellerbe back to MLB.

Defensively ... Good day for Cortland Finnegan. Mixed by Jimmy Wilson (interception and key PI). Mixed by Wheeler (sack but also got juked out of his shoes inside 20). Dion Jordan two sacks. Backup Jordan Tripp was impressive with forced fumble and 73 yard fumble return TD.

Joe Philbin talking to fans. "We're going to make Sun Life Stadium a great place to be on Sunday's this year."

Quick thoughts: Tannehill was very good, particularly without Wallace, Hartline. Dion Sims was very good. Lamar Miller very good, ran hard, looks faster.

The scrimmage is over. Thank you all for coming.

The Dolphins are saying "over 10,000 in attendance today." It looked more like 2-3K to me.

Correction: Dion Jordan sack. Sorry. Sims also been very good today, tho.
