What a great article, it really makes me miss FJM. His description of Youk's physique ("He looks like a cartoon poor person wearing a barrel") is spot-on.

I don't think it's comparable to Nomar; the Red Sox received some good pieces in return that year, whereas they received absolutely nothing in return for Youk. It really stings, but it's a move that had to be done. The Sox couldn't keep Youk on the team as a bench player, and with his contract ending Youk deserves a chance to be a full-time player to earn a good contract next year. But man am I going to miss him.

Youk pulled for a pinch runner in the 7th, and gets a huge ovation and curtain call. It seems as if everyone knows that this is his last at-bat. Emotional response from Youk.

This game was all Matusz. Very finely pitched by him, that breaking ball is deadly.

Aceves reminds me of Julian Tavarez when it comes to versatility. Rubber-band arm, can make spot starts, etc. He's been fantastic if you ignore that one game against the Yankees.

I didn't watch any of the game until the 9th inning when I saw we had runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out. Then I regretted watching at all. It's tough to enjoy baseball when your team sucks this much.

Ouch, looks like it's not that easy to fill Mo's shoes. Did Robertson look good at all? Any idea what his issue was?

This game sure sucks. 8-0 Orioles. Also, the O's broadcasters just implied that Beckett is faking his injury to make Valentine look bad for leaving him in for 126 pitches in his last start. Wow.

David Robertson is an extremely good pitcher (look at that K/9!), and I think he'll step into the closer's role with ease. So the Yankees aren't in trouble there. I think losing Mo will have more psychological effects on the team instead. I'm sure having Mo anchoring the bullpen has been a mental relief to a lot of other pitchers.

No kidding Krueg. The Sox haven't fared much better, either: Crawford Ellsbury Youkilis Bailey Lackey Beckett What a shitty season so far.

Wow, I never thought I'd feel such a pang in my chest for news about a player on the Yankees. Mo is one of those players who is impossible to dislike, and it's incredibly sad that his career is ending this way.

Just saw the replay of Papi's second homer, which Reddick jumped over the wall for and ALMOST caught even though it was a good yard out. That would have been amazing.

Are you referring to injured players returning, IBM? Or to the trade deadline at the end of July?

Glad I went to bed and missed the last few innings. Even when they win it's ugly. The worst part about Buchholz is that he's not striking out anyone. Starting off poorly can be bearable if their stuff still looks good, but he's clearly not fooling anybody out there.

Pineda out for the rest of the season... ouch. That's an awful blow, I thought the trade was a fantastic one at the beginning of the season.

An Avenue Q reference, and a reddit-style Aussie joke in one thread? Be still my beating heart! I'll actually get to watch most of this game, unlike most of the ones in the last week. Of course that means Buchholz will probably crap the bed. Oh well.

I went to bed after Lester gave up the homer to give the Twins the lead... glad they ended up coming back. Ross is looking like a good pickup so far.

I think skipping Bard in the rotation absolutely means they're considering moving him back to closer. I'm not terribly happy about it since he has looked good in his two starts (despite 5ER in the first one), but whatever. This team blows on so many levels right now.

Another ball creeps out. Ugh.

Wow, how did Swisher's ball get out of there? The wind must be crazy strong, that looked/sounded like it would hit halfway up the wall.

Buchholz' stuff looks pretty good. I wonder how long he can keep it up.

Whew, good play by Repko. Looks like the wind is pretty strong. Good baserunning by ARod.
