Ellie is two years old today. How does that happen? I love you tons and tons, Elliebear! Here's a look through her past adorableness: Continue reading

I try to think about things to blog about but what is interesting? Who knows. I'm also a couple weeks behind on agility updates. I'm not the best blogger because I'm online all day for work so when I'm not working the first thing I do is run away from... Continue reading

We had a little tussle last night. Penny and Julia. Penny was being her sassafrass self and was trying to push Julia around but Julia said no way. We've had a few tussles before and it always involves Penny (that is probably a post in itself) but overall nothing major.... Continue reading

Agility class with Ellie yesterday - super fun as usual! I swore I was going to post about more than class just once a week but the days seem to fly by with work, dogs, chores, work, dog, chores, repeat. No problem with that but so much happens and hard... Continue reading

We started Ellie's new agility class this week, agility fundamentals, which basically concentrates more on the handling part. Five dogs in this class. Not enough people signed up for the beginner class so we weren't able to start Penny this week but hopefully will be able to soon. Warmup -... Continue reading

Tonight was the last class for Ellie's beginning agility. Last week was an off-week so we could sync up for an event this week with all the levels of classes meeting up for some fun! And it was fun! :) We also got to volunteer for the different parts of... Continue reading

I get asked all the time about food. What kind, how much, how long does it last. When and how. Here is what works for us. I'm also interested to hear how others do this! Feeding time: Twice a day. Same time everyday (this is mostly possible but sometimes we... Continue reading

We hitched up the wagon and went to town yesterday so I couldn't pass up stopping by the big doggie section. We make a lot of treats at home but since we only hit up the store every once in a while and there were Sale tags everywhere I came... Continue reading

Yesterday was Sadie's obedience class at FDC. The usual trainer was absent so we had a sub - this was a trainer we had not had before and I loved her! She had tons of energy and enthusiasm and finally someone jumping and wheee-ing more than me. :) No pictures... Continue reading

It's been a whole year already since Molly's leg was broken. I don't usually dwell on anniversaries because it makes me feel old, but I know this day because it was horrible, and because I posted it on my flickr. :) That morning I had Molly and Penny out for... Continue reading

I got a new book yesterday - Control Unleashed by Leslie McDevitt. I'm only on Chapter 3 (read some on the way to dog class last night, heh!) but I can tell already... I LOVE IT! I can definitely see a lot of Sadie in it but it's useful for... Continue reading

Yesterday was Sadie's class at FDC. As you know, we've had some major concerns about this - the big reason being that this trainer really likes prong collars and keeps suggesting we use one. We are *not* going to use a prong collar. We have been using the practice time... Continue reading

Awh, thank you guys for your support, it really means a lot to me! This is good stuff. The more I've been stewing over it, the more worked up I get. I should have known better, because Penny and Ellie finished this class right before this - I didn't have this blog then but long story short, the trainer put a prong on Penny I swear it was not even 10 minutes into the first class. And there was *nothing* that made me think this was going to happen. The hubs was with Penny (I had Ellie). We had split up to opposite sides of the room and when I saw what was going on I marched right over and took it off and said no way and gave it back and said we're not using it. She said something like "it's your decision" and I'm like... well you bet it is? heh. We went through the 6 weeks of that class without the prongs and didn't have problems (and they even won most of the contests on the last night). Those two barked a lot but it was mostly at each other, easily solved by splitting them into separate classes the next round. But still every week I'd hear side comments from the trainer like "you wouldn't have to use your arm so much if you listened to me! *wink*". Er, ok. We just moved on and did our thing, lots of treats, lots of praise and practicing sits, downs, walking. It really is great practice but we're sort of in our own little bubble. I guess I figured if we could get Sadie comfortable in the new place and get in some good practice, even if we had to tune out some stuff, she'd get through this and have fun, and definitely making it non-stressful and then we could get her in agility with the other doggies there! Which I think would help her a ton for her confidence. She already was in a great obedience class right before this one, and I suppose we could have put her straight into agility (and *believe me* I was so tempted!!) but she seemed like she needed some more practice out and about and around others in a class setting and I was nervous about pushing her too fast when she was doing so great. But sigh. I didn't realize I was going to be presented with that a prong would be pretty much mandatory now? Whatever. Still no. This class is tonight and the plan is for us to go with Sadie. I have no problems with walking out and I will in a second. We thought about quitting, because even though the practice is good (ignoring all the prong drama) it is leaving a bad taste in my mouth to even be supporting it (it's $100 for 6 weeks!) and on top of it being harassed about it. I'm hoping the owner is there tonight so I can voice my concerns, because I demand someone will listen, dammit LOL for real. Sooo.... onward. The great news is, I do know a couple *fantastic* trainers and I've been talking to them throughout this as well. They are awesome and so super helpful! We can find something that works great. I'll definitely keep ya'll posted~ :)
