Ugh, I hate to hear that. (Also, never turn down a cup of tea and a biscuit!) Hope you're feeling better soon.
arm full of loopy and click, click click
Pretty rough session of lithotripsy yesterday. Firstly, it took about forty minutes for them to find the stone. The session began and immediately, despite the morphine based painkiller they put in my arm, I was in some pain. As the intensity of the pulses was increased it became worse and the co...
What a handsome kitty!
Cat in a Dollhouse
Why not? THE OBVIOUS GAME update, for those of you who haven't gotten sick of me yet. (Hi, Ma!) Sticking with this particular project on the first-ever literary blog, Beatrice How blogging changed my life on RookieMoms Review on The Headless Family Review on Deva By Definition 5 reasons...
Here's hoping you get your kidney stone sorted out and a wonderful new job lined up, both quickly and in the proper order.
A long and unpleasant week
Writing today after a long and unpleasant week of kidney pain. At first I didn't even know that it was my kidney stone, as I've had it in one form or another for three or more years and never had a twinge from it. It was first discussed with me by the specialist as a 2cm stone in my left kidney,...
That's quite the festive outfit!
Busy weekend
Went up to see Bob the Butcher yesterday as usual. He'd got pheasants hanging in the window which was unusual, as you have to be licenced to deal in game. "They ay for sale, just for show" he said. Then offered me a couple. I'm not a game bird meself, but I know someone who is. OBC, so Bob's ho...
Yay for misfit kitties! Sorry they're both sick, but Buttonsworth should settle down once you find the right food and Kizzy probably just has an upper respiratory thing.
I'm so glad you got them from the city shelter (which is what KCPP is, despite the fancy name). It'll give two more cats more time to find a home.
The Most Stressful Day Ever, and My New Cats
Last Thursday, Petunia passed away. I was planning to send the little angel to school and then pick her up and go to shelters to look for a new cat, but when she said goodbye to Petunia she was crying too hard to speak, and then so was I, and we agreed she would stay home so I could take her to ...
Congratulations! Slow and steady wins the race and all that...
Chuffed to buggery
This morning was the first time I've woken up in at least the past three weeks and actually wanted to get out of bed. I was up at 6 and had a 9 am weigh in appointment with Wendy. I'd not stepped on the scales in 2 weeks, I've not been out walking as much, a combination of not feeling well a...
Amen, sista!
Waiting for Godot.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I can't wait for November 6th to come and go so we can get on with our lives. Four years ago I was really into the election process, I was so ready to be finished with the policies surrounding the Village Idiot that was Bush, the next four years were so fu...
She might be pshawing, but keep talking her through those exercises. When I was a kid, I had a hard time getting to sleep and I used all of those to help me.
How Do You Get Grade-Schoolers Back to Sleep?
My daughter struggled with sleeping until she finally slept through the night for the first time at about four years old, shortly after we moved into Chateau Travolta. That whole period of zero-sleeping through the night is a giant haze and something I like to avoid thinking about, except to not...
What a cutie! Congratulations!
Please meet the newest member of Team Wheaton
We were introduced last week at the Pasadena Humane Society, when Anne and I were there for a tour of the new facility WWdN readers helped raise the funds to build. We were standing in the lobby, talking about how much we love Seamus, when a worker walked in with this puppy. She had the exact ...
I like the sporty new hat!
Papa's got a brand new hat (cos the catalog mon's bin)
I think it's something to do with my poor working class upbringing that makes it something of a blessed event when the catalog mon's bin. You know, a nice new pair of shoes or in my case a new hat. I left a load of hats from my collection behind at the old place because they were riffy and I d...
What a day! Sorry you had such an ordeal.
A Grrrrruesome day
I was a bit suspicious last week when I received a poorly constructed letter of appointment to attend the hospital for my second Lithotripsy session. There was a lot of stuff about nil by mouth from midnight the day before, my appointment was for 2 o clock on Monday afternoon, so considering I l...
Why didnt I think of that!
Average Jane Finds Something New To Buy Online
As far as I'm concerned, online shopping is among the best inventions ever. These days, Amazon is pretty much my general store (especially since I have an Amazon Prime account) and I go to malls so infrequently that I'm starting to remember each trip as if it were a special occasion. Up to now,...
My iMac is running SO much better since I increased the RAM from 1GB to 4GB (which is the maximum it can take). I say "I" - really, my husband put it in. But I bought it, so I guess "I" works. :)
Amongst all the crap...
One good thing happened. I'm not going to write about all the crap I have been wading through this week, but one good thing did happen. A couple of months back, Wally the Welder gave me a laptop his daughter had disposed of to him. It lights up, still works even with a missing K key but it was ...

No hot dogs or fireworks this year, but we did have grilled sausages and some other lovely snacks. :)
July the 4th
Well firstly, happy 4th of July you American fellows. I guess you'll be having fireworks and corn dogs and Budweiser and everything... Here it's just going to be housework and a bit of puter maintenance. Welder's been whining, his phone and broadband are broke. He's with Talk Talk who seem to...
We just replaced our garbage disposal yesterday. While the electricians were there, I had them fix our kitchen light, all of the outlets in the living room (some of which were so old and funky that when you plugged in a lamp, the plug would fall right out of the socket) and the outlet we use for our blender in the kitchen.
Next on the agenda: our hot water heater. It's not so on board with making water hot anymore.
So Then Our House Got Hit By Lightning
... or maybe it was the phone line. In another fabulous Arens v. Missouri showdown, Missouri threw lightning at our phone lines. Monday opened with a dead modem and a dead home phone. I spent about three hours driving around to various AT&T stores to buy a new modem (the first store mysteriously...
It's too bad you don't know someone who owns a yoga studio right down the street from your house. Wait a minute...
Seriously, Core Balance has a wide variety of class types and all of the instructors can give you advice for your particular needs. Yoga should never be "teeth-gnashing, panting hell," even if you have an injury.
Extreme Yoga
My doctor told me I should do yoga for my upper back pain. She told me this on the same day that she gave me a referral to a surgeon and a gastro doctor. Me not really being the yoga type, I bought Jillian Michael's version. It's a half hour of teeth-gnashing, panting hell, and that is the begin...
Love it!
How to spend your day off:
I'm still hugely annoyed at the way they crippled Google Reader by removing all of the social sharing functions. I used to use it all the time to share blog posts with a great group of friends. When they tried to force everyone to move the sharing to Google+, it just wasn't the same.
Google is making a huge and annoying mistake.
I like Google Plus. Some of the smartest people I've ever read are on Google Plus, and the Hangout is amazing. But Google is doing everything it can to force Google Plus on everyone, and it's pissing me off. Yesterday, I tried to like a video on YouTube. I wasn't signed in to my Google Plus acco...
Sending you positive vibes. It's good that you're getting this done.
The Lump in My Leg
I first felt it when I was pregnant with the little angel. I got scared, even though I know legs are often filled with random lumps that mean nothing, because my mother found lumps in her leg twice when I was just a little older than the little angel, and those lumps turned into years of fear, c...
I second the previous comment! Post whatever you like, whenever you like. Don't feel obligated to entertain us with every post. But keep your online outpost so everyone can still find you.
The soapbox is closing
Well, I've been doing this for 8 years now and I think it is time to move on. A combination of health problems, lack of money and the fact I always wrote on here to entertain and things I am experiencing right now fail to meet what I think people might want to read. I don't know when the page wi...
I don't know what browser you use, but I've noticed a lot of problems between Typepad and Firefox lately.
Something wrong on typepad
The previous post has odd formatting and 2 typos which I was unable to edit. Every time I tried to delete one letter, the complete text block was deleted. Just so you know
That was pretty painful!
wear theirs a pacific need...
I know Average Jane and Paula who work in the industry of the written word, find poor grammer a bugbear, but its a grizzly fact you find it everywere. Poor use of the apostrophe in words such as photo's pizza's and the like's. I intend if it's still there, to photograph an abomination in Tesco d...
I managed to get one 7-ounce pour at a nearby barbecue restaurant before they sold out. I liked it okay, but it tasted a lot like their Sixth Glass Quadrupel Ale, only with a little chocolatey finish.
Of their limited-edition selections, I much prefer the Bourbon Barrel Quad, which I almost didn't even get to taste this year. Fortunately, I ended up at a happy hour at a restaurant that had a good supply.
Man, I'm a beer nerd.
Friday Wine Goodness: The Mating Call of the Chocolate Ale.
image from Boulevard Brewing Company I know I'm about a week behind on this topic, but that's just how it works for me these days. Two weeks ago Boulevard Brewing Company released the 2012 Chocolate Ale, part of the Smokestack Series of special release beers, in collaboration with Christopher...
I've been sick for weeks and spending most of my free time lying around reading actual paper books, so I have nothing at all to report either. I think that's the nature of early January.
Not dead, just sleeping
I've had e mails of enquiry, even complaints, that I've not posted anything in well over a week. Well that's just the way it is when you lead a somewhat empty life. If there's nothing happening, there's not much you can write. I had my monthly weigh in post Christmas and was horrified to discov...
