A Mission With A Business or A Business With A Mission?
Patagonia famously ran this advertisement in the New York Times on Black Friday 2011 as a way of encouraging its customers (and others) to question their "need" to buy something new. This was not an isolated publicity stunt. It has on numerous occasions made decisions steeped in and informed...

Eleanor,
Thank you for you comment. Beauty is indeed the way by which we ascertain whether Spirit is visible on the work.
The Co-Creative Nature of Leadership
When stripped of the behavioral characteristics, the personality distinctions, and the situational competencies typically used to describe a leader, what one is left with is movement – leaders cause movement, they cause change. Leadership is defined for the purposes of this brief paper as be...

Hi Dawn,
Thanks for your comments and observations...I fully support what you're doing and loved talking with you about this the other evening!
Where Is Culture?
Peter Drucker famously said that “…culture will eat strategy for lunch.” And, indeed it will. As a consequence, much of the leadership development and change management work in organizations is oriented toward the changing or development and subsequent care and feeding of “culture”. Unfortun...

Hi Peter,
Thank you for your comments...I like the pixel metaphor as it is an apt analogy for how what we call culture "appears". As to the systems thinking approach I think there is some there there so to speak. Relationships don't exist in isolation. They are are only possible in some type of system (physical, mental, spiritual, temporal, tangible or intangible). Indeed, one could say that the "I" that I believe myself to be exists only as a consequence of relating to aspects of a system (this plane of existence and all that it contains). We define ourselves through our relationships and the culture of "me" is a phenomenon of those relationships.
