Great story! It reminded me of Goosebumps and Steven King as well. The beginning reminded me of a movie I watched growing up who's name escapes me currently. I just remember it was about a monster under a bed and starred Howie Mandel and Fred Savage.
And I think "I envy you" goes without saying. :)
