Picture one is from the Chinese temple in the Chinese Quarter of town and picture 2 two is a street scene from the Indian section. Continue reading

I was surprised by how much open and green space there is in the city-state considering the large population (5.9 million) and the tiny size of the island. The city is mostly vertical as there is insufficient room to spread out. The vegetation of course was very tropical as we... Continue reading

Singapore is world famous for its orchids and has a botanical garden devoted only to them. Didn't know they came in so many different configurations and colors. It was very pleasant wandering through the garden even though it was already hot and humid. And Singapore is the only place I've... Continue reading

Our fancy hotel room had one of those rain showers and it was wonderful once I figured out the controls. While we were in the Hong Kong airport a man came up to Bob and said he recognized him from long ago, doing SPSL sports! And in the Raffles City... Continue reading

The view from our hotel room was scenic. The green area is the Padang, which was the center of the colonial city with a British club house and cricket field. It is also used now for soccer. The interesting looking buildings with what appears to be a ship on top... Continue reading

It seemed like it took forever to get to Singapore, nearly 24 hours - and we lost a day on the way - here's me catching a nap in the Hong Kong Airport - but here we are. It was so foggy in Hong Kong we didn't get to see... Continue reading

With a very short turnaround before heading out again, our ship immediately began loading bunker fuel as soon as we docked. You can see how foggy and misty it was early in the morning. Continue reading

By the time we debarked, the fog had lifted and we boarded our buses for the airport. And indeed, this time it did take only 25 minutes to get to the airport rather than the two plus hours it had taken to get to the hotel upon our arrival. This... Continue reading

A very tired Barbara on the way back to our ship. Again you can see how its size just dominates the harbor. And it's air conditioned and cool! Continue reading

These church buildings go back many, many centuries. Some are well preserved and others just a few walls standing. In all we visited 8 of them on this tiny island! Hot and humid again. And it all seemed to go uphill, though we must have had to go back down... Continue reading

Nessebar is a small island offshore of Burgas, Bulgaria. The harbor is very small and shallow and I feared we would go aground. You can see how our relatively small ship simply dominates the dock. Nessebur was founded in the 6th century BC by Greek colonist who built on an... Continue reading

We walked through the Odessa City Garden with the fine wrought iron pavilion and then into The Passage, an enclosed shopping mall in a flamboyant rococo style. Continue reading

That's our ship, the Aegean Odyssey, in the background. The stairs are probably Odessa's most famous landmark. The stairs were designed to create multiple optical illusions. Looking down the stairs as in the first picture, you see only the landings and the steps are invisible. Looking up, as in the... Continue reading

A Neanderthal, I presume. Statue inside the museum. It would be well worth a leisurely visit were it not so warm and stuffy inside. It had notes and descriptions in English and what appear to be great artifacts. Continue reading

So we are back in Odessa, which we visited in 2007. Fortunately we toured different sites than on our last visit. Unfortunately, our guide was impossible. She talked and talked and talked about Free Masonry and Jews. (Did you know Stalin was Jewish? That jazz was invented in Odessa? Although... Continue reading

As promised earlier, more motorcycles. We were told it was to be a race and the streets were roped off as though it was, but it turned out to be a parade of aficionados. Shades of Daytona Beach and Sturgis…. Continue reading
