I agree with the need to avoid 'relevance'--the challenge becomes whether the position taken is truly counter-cultural, or anti-cultural, and all too often the position taken is more the latter it seems and is predicated on views of the world formed and shaped where our understanding of culture was entirely different--and then again, perhaps the point is to seek neither to be relevant or counter-cultural which may be an unnecessary binary opposition--but rather meaningful and engaged--which might be both relevant and counter-cultural while never resorting to either position
