Martha, Martha, Martha... You've done it again. After looking at these charming DIY paper clips, I just can't wait to get my hands on some pliers and supe up my desktop. Every piece of paper on my desk will want to hook up with every other piece of paper just... Continue reading

Hello! I love this project, as it utilizes a material I always seem to have around, don't seem to need, and yet which are too pretty to throw out. Voila! Thank you, thank you! From the fine people at CraftZine, as well as Lydia from DreamPatch. Continue reading

I've been getting back in touch with one of my favorite childhood pastimes: drawing. I think my waning interest in drawing as a teen coincided with the increasing volume of that voice... The voice inside our heads that develops sometime during adolescence which says, "Not good enough"... After all those... Continue reading

hello Blogworld darlings: I've decided to make a conscious effort to blog more often. I love this blog as much now as when I conceived of it, especially now that its body of work is growing, and there's so much more to love! I often have a notion to write... Continue reading

Last night I was at the opening weekend festivities of a brand new paper and book shop in the Mission District, Press: Works on Paper. It's a clean, thoughtfully designed, and very visually appealing space. The shelves display a well-curated selection of novels from small publishing houses, comic books, limited... Continue reading

I know, I know, it's Royal Wedding mania here, and pretty much every other corner of the globe that has access to television. Or the internet. Or at least radio. Or maybe a turn-crank, Twitter-enabled Boy scout ham radio? What's that you say? You have none of those things? Don't... Continue reading

What an inspiring story. Thanks so much for showing that taking a risk really can pay off (for all of us that are "afraid" to live their dream)! Keep the good stuff coming! Gillian

Many thanks to Maria Popova of Brainpickings.org for today's awesome crafty find: PhotoJojo's tutorial for making your own completely customized outfit-choosing flipbook! (pause for jubilation) This is seriously exciting. This is the next-best-thing to Cher's automated closet and fashion coordinating computer system in Clueless. Unfortunately, that doesn't exist. But this... Continue reading

Today was a normal enough day. I had set off this morning on a very mellow mission: to drop off a homemade MMPA (Mixed-Media Postal Art-- more on that in another post) package for a friend, and then find a nice sunny spot to sit and enjoy the sunshine with... Continue reading

Hey all! Those who know me know that I am a perpetual art student, ALWAYS interested in learning new crafts and working with new materials (my good friend Meghan dubbed me Gill of all Trades-- has a nice ring to it, no?)... I just came across this awesome-superamazing-inspirational painting class...... Continue reading

The New Year is a great time for a fresh start, and sprucing things up with a few homemade touches around the house is a great place to begin. While perusing the fabulous Ancient Industries blog last night after a very lazy New Years Day, I came across this lovely... Continue reading

Yesterday I had the privilege of celebrating a very special birthday with a very dear friend: one-year-old Wesley! Wesley's mom, Sally, is one of those people who simply exudes creativity out of her pores. And for this special day, she really pulled out all the stops. The house was decorated... Continue reading

I am LOVING these adorable knitted stirrup socks, featured on PurlBee this week. They are designed to complement Loeffler Randall's chic rubber rainboots, giving you an extra layer of warmth, color, and chicness (ok, 3 extra layers). You can get more info about the pattern here. These cuties will be... Continue reading

Though we're enjoying warm days here in SF, autumn is officially upon us. But with no falling leaves or chill in the air to alert us, how can we be so sure? Daylight Saving, Thanksgiving-themed store windows, and a bounty of fall produce in the market. My guy loves persimmons,... Continue reading

Happy Monday! Do you need something to be happy about? I have the perfect thing. The beautiful, incomparable, Hillery Sproatt. If you lived in a handmade dollhouse, you would want her as your interior designer. If you were a woodland creature of the Black Forest, you would seek her out... Continue reading

I just returned from my trip to Bali (yay!), and while my journey had little to do with crafting, I was really taken with all the handmade offerings which decorate every inch of the island. If you've never been to Bali, you may not have seen these before, they are... Continue reading

This post is commemorating my (seemingly) never-ending Granny Square project. I got the idea from a beautiful and inspirational picture I saw on Wood & Wool Stools' website (thanks, SFGirlbyBay). It shows a gorgeous, carefree Nordic lass getting ready to spread out a giant Granny Square blanket for a lakeside... Continue reading

Absolutely great! I love being invited into your home, and getting to tag along on all the new ideas you come up with. It's so exciting, and so necessary to have a room of one's own-- it really legitimizes the work you are doing, that it deserves attention than just "a moment here and there"... It deserves a real space. Congrats!!

I can't think of a better reminder to bring creativity into every day. Published by Britain's Redstone Press, this 2011 planner has room to plan, draw, doodle, and brainstorm, alongside reproductions of artwork, vintage art-world ephemera, and collected photos of artists at work. This is officially on my holiday wish... Continue reading

Thanks Meghan! I always love getting a piece of your MMPA. I think of them as modern-day surrealist collage, or a custom-designed Joseph Cornell treasure-box arriving right in my mailbox. My favorite thing about them is the element of child-like wonder and surprise they elicit. As adults, we have a name and an understanding for everything we encounter, but your Postal Art defies definition, so when I receive one in the mail, I can't wait to explore it! To open it, close it, turn it around, unfold it... it's always a surprise.
