As I'm sure you've heard by now Apple announced some additions to it's mobile line up yesterday and I thought it prudent to provide a break down of what's new and different. First up is the new iPad Mini: Same processor as the iPad 2nd Generation Smaller 7.9 inch screen Upgraded cellular radio to include global 4G LTE data support (iPad 2nd Gen. only supported 3G data) Non-retina 1024x768 display Apple's new proprietary Lightning connector Should you buy one? Well that depends... If you have the original iPad 1st Generation - it probably wouldn't hurt unless a larger screen is... Continue reading

It's no secret at this point that Apple has a yearly release cycle for all of their gadgets... So here we are again, one year after the let down that was the iPhone 4S unveiling and the rumor mill has been working over time, as usual. Let me break down what I believe will be announced at this event... In order from "most confident" to "least confident": New iPhone (um duhhhh) iPhone with LTE - the only person I've seen dispute this is Ryan Block from gdgt.com iPhone will have a new larger display (vertically) New two-toned brushed metal style... Such a beautiful song musically and lyrically. Dan Smith (aka: Listener) has a very unique style albiet an aqcuired taste... Lyrics after the break. We’re all born to broken people on their most honest day of living and since that first breath... We’ll need grace that we’ve never given I've been haunted by standard red devils and white ghosts and it's not only when these eyes are closed these lies are ropes that I tie down in my stomach, but they hold this ship together tossed like leaves in this weather and my dreams are sails that I point towards... No new iOS hardware - sorry folks I don't see Apple announcing any new iPhones or iPads. However - I'm not ruling it out as a REMOTE possibility for the simple fact that the new iPhones will PROBABLY have a different screen size and they might want to get developers on board with the new aspect ratio prior to a launch, but I find that more likely you will hear leaks coming from the iOS 6 developer preview about that.. With that said... iOS 6 - We will get to see a subset of improvements coming to Apple's mobile OS... Continue reading

I've been hacking/rooting/modding my Android phones since the days of the HTC Dream (G1), but this is by far the most insane hack I've ever done... I know some of you that read this are also fellow System Administrators whether personally or professionally so I thought I might share one of my favorite tips... Grab an extra flash drive (2GB or higher will be plenty) fill it with it with some of these programs I've found helpful in the past. Sysinternals Suite: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals. You can grab the entire 13MB suite from here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb842062 A few of my favorites: Process Explorer: It's like the Windows Task Manager on steroids - lots of information. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653 Process Monitor: This one shows real-time file system, Registry and process/thread activity. It... Continue reading

Steve Jobs - former CEO of Apple - died today after a battle with Pancreatic Cancer. He is easily one of the most important people of the last 100 years. A true visionary. He will be missed. My prayers go out to his family. RIP Steve. Posted via email from BenPike.net Continue reading

New iPhone (duh) It will be like what the 3GS was to the 3G - nothing really different. I'm torn as to whether or not there will be two different models or not. There's A LOT of evidence piling up to support the 2 model theory, but I'm also inclined to believe that they will just be refreshed iPod touches... With that said - I do believe there will be one device to rule them all for the wireless carriers Sprint will be added No 4G whatsoever - LTE or WiMax iPod classic will be discontinued No new iPad Enhanced... I stumbled across P.O.D. in a small Christian book store in Marietta, GA while visiting my cousin the summer of 1997. An employee and friend of my cousin (would eventually become her husband) pointed me towards the "alternative music" section. That's where I stumbled across P.O.D.'s Live at TomFest '97 album. The album art intrigued me so I popped the demo CD into the CD player and was floored. I had never heard anything like it. From that day forward I lived and breathed every word - every note of that album. I began to search out their previous and... Continue reading

When this album was released in the Spring of 2002 I immediately gravitated towards it. Many of the songs registered with my teenage self including the album's single "August Winterman". This song resonated deeply within me because of my own battles with depression during my teens and, as cheesy as it sounds, helped me to see I wasn't alone in my struggles. I, like the song writer, found something to help me through it, dry my eyes, and enjoy life. I recently stumbled across the song again and it inspired a retrospective look at how far I've come since those... Continue reading
