I don't know for voice recognitions, but handwriting recognition is a very significant variant of Chinese input systems. Without that, I couldn't imagine how my Dad could learn how to type into the mobile phone Chinese names of his friends, colleagues and relatives. The art of Chinese typing through a 105-key keyboard, let alone a 12-key numpad on phone, still has quite a learning curve. Therefore Chinese handwriting recognition systems are actively developed and improved through these decades, bridging the gap for elderlies. I remember when I was small, the recognition rate by the computers in public libraries is quite low. Nowadays it is a lot more satisfactory.
