Love these. Every month I add these to my journal -- so fun to look back on them and watch him change!
Father's Day Craftiness
Each holiday baby geek "commissions" a card that he sends out to loved ones. Father's day is no exception. After doing this a few times, and now that I have my Expression, I've tried to streamline the process. I set up a SCAL file laid out to make 4 5x7 cards out of one sheet of 12x12 paper. I u...
Love you, my friend.
To the mothers who work
To the mothers who work, The ones who know that staying home with kids is work, too, but who choose who work outside the home because they need to (and, maybe, wish they didn't) or they like to (and, maybe, wish they didn't). The ones who would like to slow down. Just a little. The ones who've t...
Congrats, Danielle! Excited to hear more and follow you on this new adventure!
My new life
So... I quit my job. That sounds a lot more angry than it was, because it wasn't angry at all. I didn't march in singing, "Take this job and shove it," promise. I miss nearly all of my co-workers so much. I miss their laughter, their constant chatter, their silly notes on my white board, and yes...
I got stuck laughing at "dog sprained her tail"...mostly because I thought my dog was the only crazy mutt around!!
So my mom doesn't have to look at "that same dumb post that has been up forever"
I guess we all still need a mom to call us up, nag a bit, and encourage us to get our ass in gear. No, I haven't been posting at all. I don't know why.I do know that I was sick for almost a month. This cut into my exercise (translation: prevented any exercise), and put me in a bit of a funk. So,...
Happy Birthday Wallie! My boys are sending hugs and bright sparkly fireflies (that's Q talking) in her direction :)
Six
Six years ago today, this silly girl was born. This girl. This silly, clown of a girl is the girl who lives and breathes and dreams art. This is the girl who is constantly drawing, painting, and creating. While her sister takes piano lessons and plays soccer, she takes art lessons and stil...

That Jess is a smart lady. And so are you :)
Haulin' Ass
I'm writing this post from BlogHer. It's my fifth time at this conference, and while it is so much bigger and more overwhelming than it was when I first attended, it's always lovely to see old friends, meet new ones, and spend a full weekend getting my bucket filled (as my friend Lisa likes to...
Abi -- I bet that is going to be some seriously good stuff. A year?! Very rich.
Ted - I added the simple syrup after 10 days of steeping the lemon/vodka mix. I'll wait about a month before it's ready. Although I think you're supposed to let it sit for 50 days post syrup?
We may have to have some sort of homemade limoncello soiree.
Things I love: A perfect zester...
The casa crazedparent limoncello factory is in full swing. We've received many requests from family and friends to refill the bottles we gave them at Christmas time. Since our lemon trees continue to be bountiful, we said YES! Plus, our personal stash is out. Heh. When I first made limoncello ...
Hi Cindy! Of course! We have visited Kauai a few times and Maui, so I can write about those islands and the specific spots we visited :)

Traveling Crazed, Baseball Edition: A road trip to Sacramento for the Rivercats and Raley Field, Part 2
So you've decided you're going on a quickie road trip with the kids to Sacramento to watch the Rivercats play some ball. Where should you stay? And what else should you build into your trip? Let's start with kid-friendly hotels. The husband and I are fans of Joie de Vivre hotels. Simple, comfo...
We picked up that set (sans colored handles) over the weekend. Besides fostering good manners at the table, it helps develop small motor skills (the later being our summer work)!
Summer Project: Knife and Fork
I watched Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution this past spring, and one of the things that surprised me the most—more than what passes for a vegetable in school cafeterias—was that so many of the elementary school children didn't know how to use a knife and fork. Now that it's summer, a time when...
Which did you plant from seed v. starter plants? (Either way they all look like they are doing really well!)
Not sure what we'll do this year. Peas, tomatoes for sure. Basil, cilantro and mint. But haven't tried lettuces yet...so maybe will add those.
Patio garden beginnings
We haven't had a true yard since we sold our house in Portland, so any gardening I do (and I use that term very loosely) is done on our patio, in pots. Last year we planted several different varieties of tomatoes and cukes. This year we have one tomato plant (so far)—Sweet 100 cherry tomatoes. ...

Also, I meant "What their vegetables are" :)
Jamie Oliver's TED Talk: Have you seen it?
Jamie Oliver recently addressed the TED conference after receiving one of the 2010 TED Prizes. His wish: “I wish for your help to create a strong, sustainable movement to educate every child about food, inspire families to cook again and empower people everywhere to fight obesity.” You know I ...
I remember watching it when it first hit and those snippets with the school kids -- the ones who don't know that their vegetables are...all I could think about was those cookbooks that tell parents to sneak vegetables into meals for their kids. Another topic altogether!
Simplest thing to follow is to lead by example -- if parents are healthy eaters, they encourage their kids to do the same.
I loved Jamie Oliver's presentation and look forward to more from him.

Valentine's Day: Tiny hands, big hearts
I noticed yesterday that someone had added this photo of Nol's hands holding crayon hearts to a Valentines gallery. I remember the making of those DIY crayon hearts for his kindergarten class. He put such care into this project. I haven't seen that photo in a very long time. Two years to be e...
I've been a tea drinker since I was a kid. I try to stick to herbal/naturally decaf teas, look raspberry tea with a little bit of honey. And a good Chai tea, sans all the milk.
Honestly, though, I've become a huge fan of tisanes -- grated ginger with a little hot in a mug of steaming hot water. Sometimes with a little lemon. YUM. Especially good after a run.
Blog poll: Do you?
I've recently become a fan of tea. Hot, black, herbal tea. Rooibos tea, to be more specific. Vanilla rooibos, to be exact. And I take my tea black, like my velvet backdrops. I used to drink tea in my late teens, early 20s. Lemon Lift. Constant Comment. I was a big fan of the Bigelow brand, and...

Wed: roasted root veggies w/wild rice/pilaf.
Thurs: Salmon w/green beans and orzo.
Fri: Homemade pizza (feta, sundried tomatoes).
Sat: Date night!
Let's meal plan together (albeit LATE!) for 1/11/10
Well, it's the first meal plan of the new year (I think?) and we're off to a bangin' start, aren't we? This year I am more committed than ever to focusing on feeding my family well, supporting local farmers, and seeking out quality ingredients, and eating healthfully. I challenge everyone to buy...
Jay -- it was silly putty! i will have to see if we can find a recipe for that and try it out this weekend. i'm sure we can recreate it! we used to copy comic strips onto them ;)
Crafty & Crazed: DIY Goop (not the Gwyneth Paltrow kind...)
It's a given that we'll get crafty at casa crazedparent over winter break. The kids are big into "science projects" right now. They love using play test tubes, droppers, food coloring and just about anything else that makes them feel like they are mad scientists. Crazy, mad scientists. It's ta...
I do not know of this book, but I love your clever pairing. Is the book called Ooblick?

So, so, SO jealous, Glennia. We spent last year from Xmas to NY on Kauai and we regret that we didn't do it again this year. Was a magical week.
Enjoy your trip and can't wait for more updates.
Greetings from Kauai
We landed in Kauai on Sunday, after an early morning rush to the airport, and an uneventful flight. Despite news of a Christmas Day terrorist attempt on a Northwest-Delta flight, nothing much seemed to have changed for domestic flights. We weren't strip-searched at the airport, weren't m...
do it! super easy, amy. and look for bottles at The Container Store versus Sur La Table. Much cheaper. I just missed the boat and didn't order in time, so had to pay for more expensive ones!
You could even do smaller bottles.
Dispatch from the test kitchen: Homemade limoncello, parts two and three
I bottled up our homemade limoncello last week after finding adorable glass containers at Sur La Table. I packaged the liquor with two tiny shot glasses. Also? I never published "step two" in the process of making limoncello. (Step one can be found here.) The past few weeks have been suc...
I've never had any problems uploading direct from iphoto to a typepad based post. something else you can do is use a flickr account and drop in the code. but i've never seen a widget specific to iphoto and typepad. have you checked out the typepad widget page?

My contribution to a card swap at a local scrapbook store. I used my tag maker, some left over Making Memories Deck the Halls paper, and stamps from Michael's and Purple Onion. The cards and envelopes are from Paper Source. I now have to come up with the design for our Christmas Cards. I'm thin...
Sooo good. Have you made meatloaf with a hard boiled egg in it? That, I have learned, is also a classic Italian twist.
Dispatch from the test kitchen: Arugula pesto and egg pizza...
My Cuisniart mini chopper/grinder is a kitchen tool I use every single day when I prepare dinner. Cuisinart happened to be at BlogHer Food 09, and they were kind enough to give every single blogger in attendance their newest "Elite Collection" 4-cup chopper/grinder. Mine arrived in the mail ...
