The absence of someone. For most, this creates a void, a void we tend to call loneliness. The remedy for this loneliness is usually to replace the absentee person with a new person or perhaps even the old person if at all possible. This process can continue throughout a lifetime. You lose someone. You get a new someone. You lose someone. You get a new someone. You lose someone again. You get the old someone back. The cycle never seems to end. And perhaps you may even begin to realize that you can be lonely even with someone right next to... Continue reading
I am. Those are two powerful words. Together they create an affirmative statement. Add one more word and it creates an affirmative statement of who you are. I am X. Fill in the blank. I am broke. No, I am successful. I am stupid. No, I am so smart. An "I am" statement or any statement for that matter will create your life experiences. In other words, you will remain broke if you continue to declare " I am broke." But, remember these statements can be used for good. Declare what you want or who you are even if have... Confession. I like to use words like Yay!, Super!, Yum!, Awesome! or similar words that commonly have an exclamation point behind them. Confession. I love the smell of freshly sharpened pencils and old books. I am a knitter, an artist, a designer, and most recently a blogger. I appreciate fine craftsmanship and designer items, but I can live without them. Confession. I am good at fixing things, putting items together or even taking them apart. Confession. I am a bookworm to the tenth power. I always have at least one book on me at all times. Confession. I am a... Continue reading
If you are fashion forward then be fashion forward. If you are a giver, then continue to give, even to strangers. If you love your curly hair, then wear it curly. If you’re a hugger, then give hugs to your friends and family. If you love country music, play it. If you’re a meat eater, but all your friends are vegetarians , you can still eat meat. If you love cowboy boots wear them. If you love flats, you don’t have to wear high heels. If you love heels, you don’t have to wear flats. ( If you love both,... Continue reading
A conversation with a French guy ( But his name was not Guy) Mya said to the French guy – What does tour les jour mean? The French guy said - Everyday Mya- I like the way that sounds. Please teach me to say a sentence in French using Tour les Jour. The French guy- Like what? Mya- I don’t know. How about .. Everyday the sunshines or… I don’t know. Help me think of something. French guy- Let me think about for a few minutes. (The French guy walks away. Three minutes pass. The French guy walks over to... Continue reading
There is some confusion going on. Some believe that cosmic forces will come together, the stars will align and the universe decides what will happen to us, and all we have to do is stand by and watch or wait. “If it’s going to happen it will happen. “ We presume it makes decisions for us. It actually works the other way around. We decide what we want by making a decision and then the universe yields to us. “ If we decide it will happen, then it will. “ The problem is we have to make a decision about... Continue reading
Last week someone asked Deepak Chopra what the difference was between falling in love and rising in love. His response was “Falling in love is wanting rising in love is giving.” What did he mean by this? Perhaps, he meant falling in love is needy. Perhaps, he meant falling in love comes from a place of insecure wanting of the other person. If so, rising in love must be the opposite. Rising in love is a different experience from falling in love. Rising in love predisposes you to give of yourself. Rising in love is friendship. Rising in love is... Continue reading

Trial 1 – Give 30 women designer handbags. 15 bags are actual designer handbags. The other 15 bags are fakes a.k. a. placebos. We’ll ask the women to rate their overall happiness and satisfaction with the bags after every use. After a two week period, we’ll compare the results and tell the placebo group they received a fake. Trial 2- The placebo group will continue to use the bag for another two weeks. We’ll compare the results with the results from the previous weeks. Results-This is not a real experiment, but if it were I suspect the levels of happiness... Continue reading

You’re looked over, passed over, under paid, left, beat down, down trodden, sad, or ignored. Perhaps, you simply cannot stop thinking about something terrible that happened, and you continue to replay it repeatedly in your head. Perhaps, you feel out of place, awkward, stupid, too fat or too skinny. Perhaps you feel slighted as I’ve been feeling lately. Or, maybe you feel fine, but for some reason even unbeknownst to you, you’re sad. The bottom line -your feelings are hurt and you feel bad. (Whether you are justified in feeling bad is a different topic all together.) To most, feeling... Continue reading

Often we think our opportunities have alluded us. And often we think our opportunities will appear exactly as we imagined. We think they will come packaged in neat little boxes. In fact, that’s how we think we’ll recognize them. “Look there it is! It was just like I thought it would be…. in a little neat box” We think we will recognize the right job, the right girl or guy, or that perfect idea. We think the right time to seize an opportunity is when we have the right amount of money or the perfect circumstances. But our opportunities almost... Continue reading
What are those thoughts in the back o our head that keep us at bay? You know the ones...” I can’t do this. “ “I’m not good enough.” “No one’s going to hire me.” “I’m stupid.” “I’m ugly.” etc. Seth Godin refers to them as the reptilian brain. ISA( The Institute of Self- Actualization) refers to them as the program. Others refer to it as our false selves. These “negative” thoughts play repeatedly in our heads. If we are having a good day, they are in the background, stashed within our subconscious thoughts. But on a bad day, those thoughts... Continue reading
Sometimes we forget the things behind the scenes that are always working- the invisible things, gravity, air, electricity, etc. Everything falls at 9/8 m/s2. It doesn’t matter if it’s a pillow, a feather, or a brick. 9.8 m/s2 is the rate for which all things fall. And why do they fall? Gravity – another invisible. We sometimes forget about these invisible laws that are working behind the scenes. They are always there, and they are always working. Gravity does not play favorites. It does not show favoritism to the feather, and let it fall slowly. ( That’s the air- another... Continue reading

Ever wonder why one person can sit around and do very little and accomplish a lot, while another person seems to be working double time to get what they want? Often times the person that has to work so hard or exert so much energy believes that they have received the “short end of the stick“ and the other guy is “lucky.” However, could it be that these two people hold two different belief systems about the same thing? While one believes that she can put forth little physical effort, in favor of more mental effort , in order to... Continue reading
Plant a seed, water it, give it sunlight, and it will grow. It has to; that’s the way it works. And, so too does everything else. Here’s the how to guide for Getting What You Want ( the Crash Course) 1. Know the rules of the game. There are too many to name here ( because this is the quick version) , but here are a few examples. The law of Cause and Effect , The Law of Attraction, the Law of Correspondence. So, here’s how it works. … 2. Plant- Much like a seed, an idea has to be... Continue reading

Imagine for a moment that there are two perspectives on how life works. Perspective 1 :There are a series of events that just happen to us and it’s our job to take them as they come. Often this looks like this…you’re happy when “good things” occur and sad when “bad things” occur. And your emotions… they’re up and down. Perspective 2-:We have complete control. Events do not simply happen to us. We invite them into our experience, both the good and the bad. Often this looks like this…you’re happy when “good things” occur. And if something bad happens, then “Oops,... Continue reading
When Robert Kiyoskai , the author of Rich Dad Poor Dad began discussing the differences between his two financial teachers, (his dad and his friend’s dad) the contrast between the two seemed great. Poor dad had a PhD and attended Stanford, the University of Chicago, and Northwestern, all on full scholarship. Rich dad never finished the eighth grade. Poor dad thought money was earned from working hard. Rich dad thought money was earned from thinking creatively. Poor dad was a schoolteacher. Rich dad owned a few warehouses, a chain of stores, and three restaurants. The Peter Principle states that “In... Continue reading
Freedom of will means the ability to do, say, and think as one wishes. To only be able to think of what one wants without realizing it would be a life of imprisonment, or more aptly called “living in a dream world.” But, we do not live in a dream world. We are able to think and feel whatever we like. Sometimes this is to our detriment. The more we think of war, the more we prepare for it. The more we prepare for it, the more we create it. If we are lacking in money and we continue to... Continue reading

I remember when walkmen were the most current music player. I remember when pocket rockers became a trend. Remember those. They were mini cassette players that were decorated in crazy colors. Mine was green and pink. The cassettes were about a quarter the size of a regular cassette. I'm don't even think they played a full song. (Today a for pocket rockers returned the following result.) I watched these music players transition from cassettes to CDs to mp3s. (A friend of mine in college had an early mp3 player. It held 3 songs.) I could examine these changes in other... Words are such a powerful tool. Made up of individual letters, each word has the power to incite emotion and paint a picture. Symbols do the same of course, but words are somehow more powerful. One word can incite different meanings and emotions to different people. While one word may stir up incitement in one person, it may do the opposite in another. Words inspire. Words can move a man to love, fight , or run. And what are words but characters, strung together. In design we learn that the shape, the color, the size, and the form are important.... We have so many things in this world. The landfills prove it. The products that we have are the results of the problems that we have chosen to solve. For example... When travel was a problem and man thought... 'hmmm, how we can get around faster.' We invented bikes, trains, planes, and cars." When man thought...'hmmm, how can I sit in a more comfortable way? ' We invented chairs. When man wanted to communicate better, we created telephones, cellphones, email, and web cams. And when we wanted to get around even faster, but with more comfort, we created even faster and... Continue reading
