The City of Gatlinburg has changed fire codes concerning grills at rental cabins. We and the staff at our property management company (Jackson Mountain Homes) have been proactive by conducting a grill assessment at the Bear's Den to ensure that it meets the new fire code. Our installer also contacted the the Fire Inspector to inspect the final installation to insure that the Bear's Den is in compliance! Here are some photos of the newly installed Broilmaster Natural Gas Grill . The new grill has been removed from its former location on the porch (near the steps) to the new... Continue reading

Over the past two years I've worked on Paddy's (1973 Mini 1000 with a 1380cc A+ engine) mechanical and cosmetic issues including replacing a head gasket, a bent push rod, and other non-engine related upgrades. But one problem has persisted from the begining until now. He's had a nagging "miss"... Continue reading

Everyone has their opinion of where the BEST place is to store or mount a fire extinguisher in a Classic Mini. Some will mount them under the front seats, to a roll cage (if fitted) or simply place one in the rear storage bins. The latter is where I stored... Continue reading

Paddy and I are back from MINIs On The Dragon 2014. This was my fourth year and each year I find myself "refining" what things I like to do and what things I don't. My first year was pretty much just trying to figure out what MOTD was all about!... Continue reading

Ted - I saw your comment(s): Thanks for your "offer" to allow me turn over Appraisal Scoop to you. Even after nine months of inactivity Appraisal Scoop still generates income for me and it's not something that I would simply turn over to someone. Both the content and the domain name have value. I continue to receive requests for NEW advertisers but have declined them as I am unsure what I want to do with Appraisal Scoop. I've been in discussions (recently) with a couple of other appraisers for the sale of the content and domain name. If those fall through I will most likely open it up to the best offer from non-appraisers. I have always tried to have Appraisal Scoop be a "voice" for residential appraisers. An appraiser would be MY choice for the new custodian/owner. That said, the Scoop has years and years of content that is extremely well indexed in Google, etc. which is where it's value lies. If you're interested in purchasing Appraisal Scoop, I'd be happy to discuss that with you. From - Bill Gilcrease - Mincomp's Corner (May 1997) No racing to talk about at the moment, so let me talk a bit about 1380cc motors. I am deluged with “what’s the deal with 1380s?” or “Why?” Well the answer starts out quite simply, “bigger is better,” referring to more... Continue reading

Lots of changes to the Bear's Den for 2013-2014! New and repeat guests can expect a bunch of changes to the Bear's Den since March of 2013 until now. Some of the MOST noticable changes will be when you walk through the door into the Great Room. In January, Ogle Furniture delivered our custom queen-sized sleeper sofa and matching lounge chair in a leather style finish. You'll also notice that we've added two matching oak end-tables and lamps on either end of the sofa. We hope that you'll really enjoy the new utility that this furniture affords AND the additional...
