The Arrogance of Chick Fil A #chickfila
The firestorm over Chick Fil A this week has been intense and interesting. Beyond Dan Cathy's homophobic statements and insistence to give company profits to anti-gay anti-marriage groups, it's weird that their PR team hasn't been bending over backwards to be nice to people. It seems, however, ...
It was a very good time! The humidity was in the single digits, which made it not too bad. Although keeping my contacts in my eyes was a little bit of a challenge...
Mother's Day
For Mother's Day, David and I planned a trip to Arizona to see his parents. We hadn't seen them since September 2009 when we traveled there for his sister's wedding. About three weeks before our trip, David received an e-mail from his Dad asking to bring David's Grand Daughter Rebecca (who is ...
It was a great surprise, and there were tears when we got there and tears when we left. And yeah, lots of stuff and lots of hand holding. And it was all worth it. Now David and I need to plan some time away to actually relax...

The travelling actually wasnt bad at all, and the kids were preyty well behaved. What amazed me was the amount of stuff you need to take with you when you travel with kids - toys, things to entertain them on the plane, and CAR SEATS, which we needed for the van we rented. Although we all had a great time, it certainly wasnt a relaxing get away.

David and I had poutine last year when I moved to Oregon - we drove from upstate NY to Toronto and then across Canada. It was a terrific trip. We've gotten a couple of the local restaurants to make poutine for us, although they use shredded cheese instead of cheese curds. But it's still pretty tasty.
How To Get Through Tough Times
Surround yourself with wonderful people! Carol and her family stopped by my town for a visit on their way to Montreal a few days ago. We took time out for a relaxing cocktail at One Federal, and I got a head start on indoctrinating her into French Canadian culture by sharing with her a plate of ...

Busy Bee
I know how he feels, today has been busy and weird. I continue to be buried by retirement details, tomorrow we have to meet with a financial guy who is not our financial guy because G's union allowed the city to contract this stuff out. We now hates the union and the city. The weird is gett...
Thanks for your kind words! I made up the pattern for the throw I did, using Marilyns blanket as a guide.
A Gift
David's late wife, Marilyn, was a knitter and crocheter. She had crocheted blankets for almost everyone in the family. During her bout with cancer, she was working on a blanket for her sister, Susan, all in shades of blue. Unfortunately, she passed before the blanket was finished (it was almo...

English Country Garden CAL & Dragon Hall
The lovely Amanda of The Natural Dye Studio invited me to join in with her crochet-along over on Ravelry. This is a great way for a crochet novice like me to learn new motifs and the first flower for March is called Jonquil. Thank you Amanda for this gorgeous pattern. Oh and at the end of th...
