Enter to Win - Kindle and Samsung Giveaway!
We've got plans to go to the beach this summer.... the Kindle would be perfect for me to read while lounging on the sand, while hubby can snap photos of the kids with the Samsung SH100. :) bonggamom@yahoo.com

Back-to-School Upgrade: Tips, Tricks, and Hacks to Kick Off the School Year. It's the most wonderful
Good point, the Italians call it Calcio, but that is their affectionate nickname for it -- "gioco del calcio" is like saying "the beautiful game". If you ask any Italian what futbol is, which sport do you think they would pick?
Get With the Game, America!
The World Cup tournament has kicked off, and just like we did four years ago (and every four years before that), our family has been following the tournament closely, watching at least one match a day, following the other matches online, painstakingly writing each match's score on our World Cu...
News flash....... SA! USA! USA!!!!! It's 9AM Pacific Time and the USA just played the game of their life! After some heartbreakingly near chances, Landon Donovan scored in extra time to beat Algeria -- and now the USA has actually won their group and advanced to the next round! Way to go guys, let's hope the rest of the country notices your huge win!

My husband does NOT help with the laundry one iota, not because he hates it but because he does all the ironing. Did I mention I hate ironing even more than I hate doing laundry? If I had to do laundry AND ironing I might as well stick my head in the oven and be done with it all. But that's the subject of another post.... :)
Do the Laundry, Now!
I hate doing laundry. I mean it. The constant sorting, washing, drying, folding, and putting away drives me crazy. Some people find satisfaction in ending up with clean, crisp clothes and linens, but all I can think about is how it's just going to get dirty in a matter of days (in my sons' ...
I heard LiceMeister comb was good too, should I get one for future battles? Those plastic thingies that come with the Rit shampoo are useless. I had to trap the little buggers between my fingernails and pull them all the way down to the ends of my daughter's hair.
I'm trying to convince my daughter that a pixie cut would look cute on her.
That pheromone treatment sounds awesome.... scientists, take note.
Waging War on Lice
There has been an epidemic of head lice in my daughter's third grade classroom, and unfortunately she became the latest victim this weekend. She's fine now, but after all they have put me through, I find myself nurturing a deep-seeded hatred for lice. Honestly, what possible purpose do these...
I agree with you Jane! Different people have different priorities, and the reality is that many people can't afford to buy the eco-friendliest products that are sold in places like Whole Foods. So rather than chew them up over that extra 1% of artificial additives, I applaud companies like Clorox for bringing eco-friendlier products to Walmart and Target and making them more accessible to the general public.
That was a good lunch though :)
Sustainable Sustainable Living
Last summer at BlogHer I was invited to a lunch sponsored by Clorox Green Works. They had provided us with samples ahead of time to try out. At the lunch each table had a Clorox representative to answer any questions we might have about the products. I was sitting at a table of very nice blogg...
Wow, Rick, that is amazing. Congratulations to your family! Those are precious photos indeed. I'm so tickled pink that your grandmother still surfs the internet! Coincidentally, my grandmother also turns 90 in December :) She doesn't know how to use the internet (heck, she hasn't quite got the hang of ATMs yet) but she stays young by playing mah-jongg every other day, and goes on shopping junkets to Hong Kong with her daughters!
Gratitude for Family
Grandma-Bucich-90th-Birthday-2009-2, originally uploaded by jack'sdad. A couple months ago was my grandmother's 90th birthday. Since she is still very active, driving, going to church daily, surfing the Internet etc. it was quite a momentous occasion for all of us. Family drove in from Oregon...
A good movie and great treats is all I need to have some fun inside with the girlfriends! (though usually the girlfriend is my daughter!)
Smartfood is Yum for the Afternoon Snack! (Plus 8 chances to win a $100 Visa gift card!)
This is a compensated review from BlogHer and SmartFood. I am always on the prowl for healthy snacks for work. And I'm a bit of a health nut. So I jumped at the chance to try SmartFood from Frito-Lay. I was delighted by what arrived: I snapped this pic at home, but lucky me, the snacks arri...

That Blu-Ray player is definitely something my husband would want for Father's Day! Well, he actually wants a new motorcycle but the Blu-Ray is more in my price range.

After watching Disney's Earth, my kids have a renewed interest in going green to help prevent the ice caps from melting and destroying polar bears' habitats. Now we are trying to take shorter showers -- when the kids are taking a bit too long in the shower, I gently remind them about saving the earth, and they hurry up right away!
Bill Nye the Science Guy, Activeion, San Jose Tech Museum and Silicon Valley Mom Bloggers (and a GIVEAWAY!)
On Saturday morning, I sent a message out to my Facebook group stating, "I am heading over to the San Jose Tech Museum to meet Bill Nye the Science Guy". Within a few minutes, I had over 25 replies from friends, family and co-workers (current and past) from all over the country saying, "Geek Ou...
My kids will never forgive me if I miss a party sponsored by Sprout -- they love Fireman Sam. Maybe you could get him to attend so I can pose with him, for my kids. And maybe also another kind of fireman (you know the over-18 kind) that I can pose with, for me. Thanks!
The 3rd Annual People's Party 2009
It’s time to party like it’s 1999! Back before anyone was concerned about things like stats and comments and review disclaimers. Back when People were People, not metrics to be valued or ranked. We love People! And you are all invited! Shake off all of the peripheral distractions of the b...
I don't really like Kate, I think she's way too bossy and controlling and I have no idea why she allows herself to be portrayed that way on tv.... but if I were being offered tummy tucks, a new house, free trips to Disneyland, and a caboodle of money, in exchange for a chance to appear on tv, dress my kids and have them pose in cute clothes for magazines, etc... would I say no? Probably not. I doubt if many of the Kate Haters would say no, either.
Stop the Kate Hate
I feel so bad for Kate of Jon and Kate Plus Eight. If I have to see one more cover calling her a Monster, out for Money (what Dad isn't out for money???), terrible mother, etc. etc. etc I'm going to scream. Seriously, folks, the woman has eight kids. Can we not give her the smallest break? ...
I'm with Pamela -- Fraiche is to die for.
Is Frozen Yogurt Just a Craze?
The first time we went to Yogurtland, it was serendipity. The second time we went to Yogurtland, it was with preschool friends. The third time we went to Yogurtland, it wasn't my fault. We were addicted. That was just the first week. That's right. We went to Yogurtland three times within one...
We love the San Francisco exploratorium because there are so many fascinating exhibits that kids and grownups enjoy!

Alix, I totally agree with you. The Pea has 20 kids in her class, and each will bring in a treat to school on their birthday. Then there are the BackToSchool/Halloween/Valentine/Xmas/Easter/St.Patricks/bakesale/etc... school parties, and all of a sudden you're looking at a treat every 2 weeks at school. Then add birthday parties, playdates, etc... it's all too much! I'm ashamed it took my daughter's ballooning waistline to force me to get tougher on treats at home.
Banning Junk Food
Banning junk food Sometime in the last week of April, my eight-year-old looked down at her naked body and declared, matter-of-factly, "Mama, my tummy is too big! How do I make it smaller?". You gotta love eight-year olds. No mincing words, no denials, no excuses, they just say it like it is...
I agree. Not everyone wins in real life and "protecting" our kids from that fact only does them a disservice.
Trophy Kids
There's a new term in town: participation trophy. Apparently, it's now standard to give kids trophies for playing non-competitive team sports such as basketball and baseball. I'm talking about teams with kids so young that there is no score-keeping, no winning, no losing, and no Most Valuable ...
David, I think promoting reasonable portions is a great idea -- and one that I'm really bad at implementing. Whereas my husband can eat just one square of chocolate a day, I can't stop till the whole bar is gone. Same with healthy foods -- 6 strawberries instead of 3, 2 bowls of cereal instead of 1, that kind of thing. Unfortunately my daughter follows my example, not his, so it's something we both need to work on!

Jill, thank you for sharing your story and -- as Maria Shriver said -- for putting a human face on this disease. You and your family are so courageous, and my heart goes out to your father!
