I really don't understand what you're trying to say here. Should I just get along with people who are trying to deny me equal rights? Just "let it slide"? Why?

I don't know why I'm bothering to respond to this because you're pretty trolly, but but here it goes. When your so called "morals" deny people equal rights, yes it is OK to "hate" on them. I'm sure many who were against inter-racial marriage and civil rights belived it was a moral issue too. Wil, I stand in complete support of you. You're a huge ally to the LGBT community and we appreciate it greatly. Well, at least I do. I don't understand this whole defense of free speech thing at all. It's Chick-Fil-A guy's right to spend money on hate organizations that want to deny me, a gay man, my rights. It's my (and countless others') right to not eat there. I don't see how anyone's free speech is being impeded.

Since Lulu is print on demand, there are no up front costs. They print the books as they are ordered. There is a base cost of the book that goes to Lulu, anything you charge on top of that goes to you.

I went with Lulu on your recommendation, Wil and it was a great decision. I am very happy with the finished product for the first Brax Book (available here). It turned out even better than I thought it would. It was a lot of hard work, but for webcomics and other comics I think it is a great solution as you can just take your raw files and plug them into their templates and roll from there. Mind you, we did a ton of tweaking after that step but it was pretty easy to get the ball rolling. If you use inDesign it's even easier as they have specific inDesign templates and layouts. We had to do some trial and error with bleeds and stuff like that but the community and their own support people are extremely helpful. As far as marketing goes, I am not a wizard on that front at all but I have found that getting plugged into places like Goodreads and other communities that support independent authors and artists is a very good start.

I think my comment on your last post got eaten for some reason, but I just wanted to let you know that thanks to awesome advice and encouragement like this that you have given over the years, our Brax book is now available on Lulu and we got our first copy today. Keep up the great work, Wil.

Pre-ordered. I'm sure I will love it.

I am all over this. It sounds like a high tech, hyper-nostalgic version of The Westing Game, one of my favorite books when I was a kid.

Fuuuuuuck, just bought tix to Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair at the New Beverly that night. Bummer. Totally agree about Memories of the Future.

I can definitely relate to the jonesing for a game group thing. Due to various circumstances both the game I play in and the game I DM have been on hiatus. We're finally starting back up again this weekend. I can't stinking wait. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more RPG posts from you as those were what really lit the fire in me in the first place to finally take the plunge. In the meantime I have been playing Fable 3 and I finally snagged a copy of HeroQuest on eBay so I've just been drinking up the nostalgia of it and playing against myself. It's kind of sad but I really don't care. Glad to hear you are back home and taking some time to relax!

I am so, so, so glad I got to attend the live show and that you did too, Wil. I know EXACTLY how you feel. I'm still kind of bummed we went to a two show day for our meet and greet since it was only a Q&A for us, but it was still incredible and I did get to talk to Pee-Wee briefly. That video reminds me of the sheer awesomeness that was the Pee-Wee's Playhous Christmas Special!

I've been slowly getting in to Reddit, still finding my way around but I think I'm getting the hang of it. So yeah, definitely interested.

Still sad about the AOL layoff. I miss our beloved Geek Group terribly sometimes. I'll be surfing along and find an awesome story, I'll copy the link and then I'll remember. It's happening less and less but it still stings. You've had quite an amazing year, Wil. I'm very stoked for you and all the success you've had.

Holy shit, I ordered this so long ago I actually forgot about it. What should I do about address changes, contact the publisher? Props on getting it done though, Wil. I'm sure it will be great!

Oh sweet! I'll look into that. I know I could get some folks to play if I had it. Oh man, now I'm going to have to try and dig out my homemade quest sheets I came up with when I was a lad. I know I have somewhere. Don't ask me why I saved those and got rid of the game. Look what you did, Wil!

I will give those a try. I wish I still had my HeroQuest. I got many an RPG hater hooked with that game.

Man, I want to play Dominion and Small World soooooo stinking bad. I can't find anyone to play with, my friends are teh lame when it comes to cool board games. I'm just going to have to bring them to our next get together, slam them on the table, and say we're fucking playing these and you will like it. Then hopefully they WILL like it. Any ideas for super entry games to get people excited about fantasy/rpg games? I have friends who play Settlers and Ticket to Ride, but they won't play anything that smells of RPG. I am flummoxed as to how to get them to make the leap.

I would take that class with you in a freaking heartbeat. I feel that way quite a bit, especially now that I'm working again. If it isn't something directly related to my job or something else I'm working on, it falls to the periphery. As far as dicks on Twitter go, I'm afraid that will only increase as more people join in, just like other things on the internet. I know it's probably a lot harder for you than it is for me to filter out the dicks though. I'm not sure if there's an easy solution aside from continuing to spread the gospel of Don't Be A Dick.

Thanks for the reply. I am definitely on the Lulu train, but we're trying to look at all the options. Yeah, we're trying to follow the Halfpixel model of a book every year so we're hoping to roll out the first one in the early spring of 2010. We're going with a zine type look to go along with the whole music theme.

Thank you so much Wil for the awesome, inspiring post. We are gearing up to put out our first Brax book and we're most likely going to do it with Lulu. Have you had any experience with CreateSpace? It sounds like you're definitely a Lulu guy and sometime I would would like to hear what brought you to that decision. Man! Look at all the cool links in the comments. I could spend all day just looking through this stuff!
